  • Seafood Producers Cooperative (SPC) is a fishermen-owned co-op whose owners operate small family-run boats. What fishing looks like for our small boat fleet is much different than what fishing on industrial factory trawlers looks like. Industrial factory trawlers produce enormous amounts of bycatch and destroy ocean habitats. The destruction caused by industrial factory trawlers impacts our own small boat fleet. When there is bycatch of juvenile king salmon, sablefish and halibut, which are then discarded, there is a wonton waste of our resources. In addition, the destruction of habitat, rearing grounds for all the fish we catch, leaves our resources less plentiful for the future, further destroying our way of life. See the diffference between what our small boat fleet does versus what factory trawlers do in this video.
