It's time to Grow Up (Part 2) Understanding Righteousness. Hebrews 6:1-2 - Sunday November 17th 2024

The church in Jerusalem had a problem. Many of them had not progressed in their Christian walk, indeed many had become lazy and regressed. They didn’t even understand the basics of the Christian faith and didn’t grasp their righteousness was found in Jesus not in themselves. This is the context of today’s passage where the writer urges the church to settle it in their hearts once and for all the key concepts of repentance from dead works, faith in God, ceremonial washing, laying on of hands, the resurrection and judgement. As we shall see, for many believers their understanding was stuck in the Old Testament. Could it be that some of our understanding is stuck in the Old Testament too? This week’s message will endeavour to make sure that we are not stuck, because until we understand our righteousness is in Christ and all that means, we cannot and will not grow in faith.
