The Boshin and Russo- Japanese , southeast asian videos are what brought me the the channel. Great content. It would be an intesting topic to cover more late 1800s japanese colonial expansion and the various resistance moments like in taiwan and Philippines ect.
Ah, good old Ishiwara. The man's entire life is a tapestry of fascinating events and actions. The man had his flaws, but he had balls of adamantium for his criticism of Tojo, the Army and the actions of the Japanese during the wars. Then at the war crimes trials, he flat out states President Truman should answer for the fire bombings of Japanese civilians.
@@ThePacificWarChannel Also the prototypical non-civilian anti-American, making legit points but with a background so epically villainous that almost all of their arguments could also be used against them.
Big time, Kings and Generals lent a hand teaching me how to improve on my maps, and in general I just took the time to figure out some better editing techniques 😅.
Haha, finally getting paid sponsorships, eh? Good video as always, kind of crazy what an easy hand Ishiwara Kanji was dead. Would the course of the Pacific War had changed if he had never got involved? I knew he was important because of his popular, nihilist policy, but him triggering a war against all odds is just maddening.
@@ThePacificWarChannel it's kind of on par with the Rikshaw guard that cut Czar Nicholas II during his visit to Japan, which solidified a permanent seething hatred in the Czar for Japan and was a major influence on his later actions in the Russo Japanese war. It really is amazing how major catastrophic events that burn whole segments of the globe can often hinge on one seemingly isolated and insignificant individual.
Of course, basically after this episode I will cover the rest of the invasion of Manchuria, some political situations in 1930s Japan and it will all culminate with the Marco Polo Bridge incident (with a lot of emphasis on Ishiwara)
Main show is called "Young Marshal" (can watch it on RUclips in Mandarin). The anime is called "Zipang", a really bizarre one where some Japanese are sent back in time to WW2 and they meddle in the history etc.
Initially Tokyo General HQ was sending frantic messages to stop escalating the conflict, but Ishiwara and Itagaki did everything they could to push it. When it look inevitable that Manchuria would be seized the Japanese government came up with excuses publically to try and save face because they did not want to acknowledge their junior officers were openly being insubordinant. Its actually much more complicated than that though.
@@ThePacificWarChannel Hirohito was pissed at the insubordination but his adjutants stopped him from speaking out against it, fearing a military coup. Simply put, they feared that the militaristic factions would rationalize every actions and would see it as the Emperor having to speak out against his will or sth. It was ridiculous.
You keep focusing on how terrible the Chinese portal of all this is, but I guarantee you, you will never see any of this mentioned in Japan. Hnayo Miyazaki has made at least 6 movies bashing US conflicts (yes, in many all cases, the enemy in those movies is the west) but not one about Japan in WWII. But yeah, the Chinese choices are terrible.

Ishiwara really let his intrusive thoughts win.
His life story is more insane the more you learn about him.

Interesting, are you talking resistances pre WW2, during or after for Taiwan and Philippines?
@@ThePacificWarChannel pre and during ww2 👍🏻

Its insane how a single person technically changed global history multiple times.

What was the Japanese government’s response to this whole debacle? Also feed the birbs.

Ishiwara was the fall guy
a lot of people believe that to be the case, though he did write extensively on his activities, I think its a bit of both.
