I have always referred to "tongues" as my personal prayer language. When I am in fervent prayer for someone, I always get tongue tied (no pun intended). When I begin to utter words unknown to me however, I feel a real connection with God. I also pray in English when I am speaking general praises and thanksgiving, but when I have no words, The Holy Spirit takes over!

If not, how is it edifying and helping your fellow believers

A most inspiring message. You have answered so many of my questions. As a new believer many years ago, I attended a service where the evangelist asked for anyone who wanted to receive a spiritual gift to come forward. He laid hands on each of us, and I don't know about any of the others, but I began to utter melodious syllables which I did not understand. I only know that I felt like I had been granted entrance to God's presence. I will never forget this, and thank you for removing any doubts that this was of God.

I like the way you teach on revelation but in this teaching you are not properly expanding the ceasionist theology. If this was not so why would Chapter 13 written. Also where those fatih, hope and love begin if tongues continue. See gifts of prophecy, tougues and knowledge were part-time gifts used to write the scriptures and was used as apps to download revelation from God. Remember, Jesus said the holy spirit will teach/show you Hidden things. Romans to Revelation are all revelations of Jews, Gentiles and the Church of God and Jesus reappears again in Revelation to give the final revelations and sealed the books in 100AD. John saw Jesus Face to Face and was taken up the Heaven exactly how Jesus said when he was with them. (This generation will not pass until you will see the son of man coming with power and authority). Holy Spirit has now replaced these part-time gifts with Faith hope and Love. If they continue to exist then the Bible will continue to be written non-stop, even to this Day. The mysterious that were uttered in tougues were revealed in scripture already. The last mystery will be revealed on the day of the seventh angel trumpet. I challenge you to go and find how many mysteries that were revealed to Peter, Paul and John. Then you will understand fully. Hope and Faith will end when the Church meet the Saviour. But Love continues. That is why Love is the greatest.

Correct, there were very, very few who could read written word back then and even fewer who could write. The primary from of communication was verbal. This was/is the primary purpose of speaking in tongues. And YES Gary I did get offended by your use of the term SENSATIONALISTS, as it was a back handed swipe at those of us who believe that speaking in tongues is a private prayer form, not a public one. Which includes small groups. What is the use of Romans 8:26 then?

When I first heard Gary's teaching on the Spiritual gifts, I was so afraid that he was going to say that the gifts are not for today---and I would have to say I thought I had found me a teacher. Praise God that he is spiritually mature enough to know that God still wants us to seek and operate in the Spiritual gifts!!! The prosperity preachers have so misused the gifts that most Christians stay away from them. I have been used to operate in the gift of healing, a word of knowledge, and tongues. The tongues that I speak in prayer sound nothing like what comes from the mouth of Kenneth Copeland. And my prayer language is not always the same language. I praise God that when I don't know how to pray for a situation I can pray the perfect prayer in tongues. I was never given a message in tongues for the church, but God would give me the message in English. It was wonderfully strange because the pastor always knew when I had a message, and he would just nod to me and I would give it. I am 86, have operated in the gifts since '75. Praise God that I have a new teacher! My doctor put me on to him.

It’s sad how closed off the church in America is to the supernatural things of God. I for one am thankful that this pastor at least was willing to speak to his congregation about it. While it’s by faith through grace that we are saved, receiving and employing our gifts would deal a significant blow to the enemy. May the Most High bless you all in the mighty name of Yeshua, aka Jesus Christ 🙏🏽

From South Africa, I pray for many years that I may receive the gift of tongues. I received a gift of teaching, and I prayed for a time that God would use me where He needs me. Yet, I feel it is a special gift to pray in tongues. At the same time it is important that if I receive the gift of tongues, a person with a gift to explain that to me. I am a natural teacher and spent 10 years working for my church in teaching. I would love to speak directly to God in a tongue, because I fell that is a praise to God, but at the same time someone must be able to explain the meaning to me. Especially when I am in my inner room. And it feels like that it is a gift of the receiving the Holy Spirit, but yet nothing can be bigger than love. I will persist in such time that God's time for me is te correct tome. I've learned that God's time is the best time. I will keep on asking for that gift and I believe if that is what God deems right for me, in His time I will receive that, and someone who can explain that to me. Thank you for your teachings Pastor Gary, I am excited when it is time for the Wednesday teachings, though with ou huge electricity problems we receive thus late, basically always, but I thank you for your encouragement, I an a note taker and often goes back to the notes. In all my years of upbringing in the pentecostal church in India, never has anyone explained it as well as Pastor Gary has. Thank you Pastor Gary. So blessed to be part of Cornerstone and to have you as our Pastor. Pentecostals in India teach that there is no salvation without speaking in tongues and even force people to speak it like it is something you can in your flesh. I have been in prayer groups and churches where they place hands on people and force them to speak in tongues. They make the believer think that they are not worthy in the eyes of the Lord if they dont speak in tongues. So wrong. I truly hope and pray Pastors in India listen to this and learn the truth of what the Word of God says about this.

I was totally healed of a heart condition praying through in Tongues. The LORD GOD prays through us so the prayer is PERFECT - Romans 8:26-27.
satan hates Tongues and lies about it. When people are being delivered of demons and people pray in Tongues, the demons scream and tell them to stop.
Many say there are fake tongues. If there are it is not a surprise because satan can imitate any Holy Gift. We trust The LORD GOD to show us what is True as we trust in Him and are in Him and He in us. The LORD JESUS called TONGUES The Power and we are commanded to avoid those who DENY The Power - read Luke 24:49, Acts 1:8, 2Timothy 3:5.
TONGUES in Acts 2 is NOT A GIFT. It is The EVIDENCE of being infilled with THE HOLY SPIRIT. The TRUTH is confirmed in Acts 10:44-48 and Acts 19:1-6. Tongues as a Ministry Gift with/without interpretation is dealt with in 1Corinthians 12 and 14. There are at least 4 different types of Tongues.
We are encouraged to build ourselves up PRAYING IN THE HOLY SPIRIT - Jude 20. This is confirmed in 1Corinthians 14:2, 4 (edifying yourself praying in Tongues).

All these years later, I am still in touch with my host family and still speak to them in German, and write to them in German. It is probably terrible but they all say they understand me. @@kcm7134 It isn’t something we should be fighting about though. I told my friend that if someone wants to speak gibbish in their prayer closet and they believe it is tongues, that is fine. But to use it in a group with no interpretation is wrong and unbiblical. I was listening to someone who I thought had good teaching and in the middle of a sentence he spoke a few words of “tongues” just and that was enough for me. Not saying he isn’t saved or he doesn’t have some good teaching. I just have had 40 years of experience, myself included, that it is a red light to me. Most cessationists believe the gifts continue to the extent God can doin anything He chooses. But the Sign gifts in the early church were to establish the church until the scripture was complete. However, under circumstances of His Choosing, God will have those gifts operate for his purposes not ours. It just does not look like what we see in so many hyper charismatic churches these days. They often use it to show how spiritual they are. As though at that moment something super spiritual is happening to them.

The gift of tongues is given to those God chooses to give this gift to. Will all speak in tongues? No. Churches I’ve attended do great harm when they insist that you must have the gift of tongues to be filled with the Spirit. A second filling so to speak. We receive our gift(s) from the Holy Spirit the moment we believe and He chooses. Today’s church has become gift seekers and not simply devoted to Christ.

Acts 2: 6 "When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard them speaking IN HIS OWN LANGUAGE. 1 Corinthians 14: 9-10 "So it is with you. Unless you speak intelligible words with your tongue, how will anyone know what you are saying? You will just be speaking into the air. Undoubtedly there are all sorts of languages in the world." Thank you, Pastor Gary, for being so objective in your explanation of this gift of the Holy Spirit. I especially grateful that you explained with clarity the reasons it is still valid.
I understand it is the Holy Spirit that gives the 9 gifts, I will appreciate clarity regarding 2 matters:
    1. Lord Jesus said in Mark 16:17 Nkjv: "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In My Name they shall cast out devils; they shall speak in new tongues." I am under the impression that the words THEM THAT BELIEVE in this verse He means every believer, and is not selective by the Holy Spirit.
    2. The 120 disciples waiting in the upper room all were speaking in tongues/given the utterance. Were they all selected by the Holy Spirit for the same gift and not selective?
Will you help me understand these two matters properly? Thanks so much.
Many blessings to you and yours.

Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
    The implied answer is "NO"...
To all who turn themselves inside out, asking God for this gift...maybe the answer is "NO"
Of course another consideration is this:
1 Corinthians 13:8-10 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
The scriptures indicate that tongues (and the other sign gifts: Jews required a sign) would cease, when that which is perfect is come. We see the juxtaposition of part and perfect in connection to prophecy (the word of God). We have the perfect and complete word of God contained in the 66 books of the bible (AD96 or thereabouts). Tongues have ceased...

Problem with Tongues, you won't know who is really speaking because he/she has the gift or who is pretending to speak. Don't blame those believers for rejecting it, blame the people abusing it. Plus, we really do not need this gift, it's not as if we are less of a believer if we don't speak in Tongues. What we can't deny is, this Tongues issue is creating a lot of confusion among believers. So if you truly have the gift, great! Just make sure you have someone who can interpret it if you are in the church, if not just do it in your own quiet time. That's what Paul taught.

I Cor 12 gifts are given, manifestation of the Spirit, for the common good to( 1 PT 4:10 ...to serve others...)
1 Cor 12:28 ...and those speaking in different kinds of tongues( plural).
13:1 starts with "if" , but still plural of tongue and tongues of men( first time angels are spoke of)
1Cor 14:1 ...egarly desire... especially the gift of profecy.
There is an assumed shift from known language to unknown language.

However, I have never seen a case made using good hermeneutics that tongues is anything other than a known human language. I see no evidence of an angelic gift of tongues or some gibberishy sounding gift. I do agree on 1st Corinthians 13 that the perfect is not the completed Canon of scripture but it is us getting to heaven.

(ACTS CHAPTER TWO) is in reference to New Testament times after the ascension of Christ, when the kingdom of God was established, while some of His apostles were still living.
Only the apostles, and the household of Cornelius were given the gift of the Holy Spirit to speak in other tongues, knowing full well what they were speaking in each of those tongues.
Those same people had a ready recollection of every Scripture in the Bible, because of the power of the Holy Spirit that they had received.
Which meant, that they didn’t have to study. The Holy Spirit gave them that knowledge.
Plus the understanding of those ancient languages, a dozen or more, was given them without study on their part!

No. Gifts and tongues do not cease. They are here to stay, it’s literally signs of true believers and Pentecost happens IN you in a very orderly and powerful experience. When Perfection comes, it’s the full Revelation of Christ Jesus IN you, and you experience it. That is the mystery that unveils in every believer of Christ as Paul asks all to test themselves if they are actually in the correct faith (confidence), “do you not realize that Christ Jesus is IN you?” If you haven’t realize this and began to experience it, you have failed the Faith test.
Ask yourself and test it. I don’t sit in either school of thought, I seek to experience (to know) the True Lord and it will happen to all who earnestly ask to experience in great confidence in receiving to experience. “When you pray, believe that you have received and you will.”
The completions happens in the flesh, and those it happens to will then be sent out to perform the miracles on earth now as in heaven just as Jesus did also who truly spoke “these I do you can do also, even greater than these….”
Eat the word meaning take it in you and you will experience it.
