With Jungle the beats are all chopped and re sequenced adaptations of what's known as the AMEN break it's literally one 4 beat section of a live drum recording from a track called Amen brother by the drummer Gregory Coleman. It's literally a 7 second sample that's used.
100% right! The James brown hot pants break! Lyn Colin’s break ! And like you say 100 s more ! I just think because the amen break is the most well known uneducated people think it’s the only jungle break ! People also used the break edit technique were they would edit 2 breaks together to make one break and then record it and then sample it so you had more sample time and room to work with and it was super creative!!!
I’m so happy you covered this tune! This is a favourite Jungle tune! Have you listened to Foul Play - Being With You or DJ Ron - Cannan Land?! I reallly love these tunes!!!!
Welcome to the Jungle! Awesome seeing you to react to my childhood classics! Kenny Ken produced both Jungle an DnB (DnB is evolution of Jungle which is still going strong) but there is lot of dancehall and ragga soundsystem bits here so this song leans more towards Jungle though calling it DnB is all good. Love from Europe!
Kenny Ken is one of the OGs! I remember booking him for a Legends of Jungle show in Bristol alongside Ray Keith, DJ SS and Jacky Murda. Kenny Ken is one of the nicest most humble guys in DnB and Jungle. Definitely had a hand in shaping the scene
You need to check out these DJs Jumping Jack Frost, DJ SS, Randall, kenny kens hardcore crossover with jungle stuff, Ratpack, Grooverider, Fabio, Shy FX, LTJ Bukem, Doc Scott ,Ratty , Hype, Seduction ,Andy C, all of them are legends of Party scence of early 90s & through the 90s , big ups to the Hardcore & Junglist Crew✌️
If you actually want to know where drum n bass starts, it's at 1:26 of The Winstons - Amen Brother. If you want to see someone creating beats live on pad, you should check our Fred Again - Boiler Room. P.s, Thank you Winstons for giving us the Amen break.
You mentioned seeing people playing drum machines and making the music. Check out beardyman and spinscott. Also for a bit of fun, check out dnb on the bike and look at the crowds this music pulls.
I’ve had the chance to speak with everyone involved in this tune including the vocalist whose name and sound got left off by how it got pitched up, my extended family. Bless up DRS, Kenny Ken and Stevie
my ultimate jungle track from back in the day (yea a good 25-30 years ago!) was Splash - Babylon (Original Mix) shit was mad when it dropped at the raves. and the dj splash remix......oh gosh
Ive got some DJ kenny ken tapes from 23rd November 1993 from the old days when i used to go to Quest Wolverhampton UK also DJ Randall was there with Goldie Amazing buzzin night just looked its up on mixcloud bumbaclat 😂
I highly recommend 'That UK Sound Documentary Series' on Bearing UK channel that someone else has commented. Don't start at no.3 for DnB, take it from the start. This will take you through the evolution and influences of the UK base. In the credits he even does it by subgenres and plays excerpts (pretty sure it's this series) ruclips.net/p/PLlCEg4hCa1LHLLYk4KQQIGPMhXFy2FMXY
As requested by you guys, the mini mix mashup of all mini mix mashups. You already did dj zinc, jungle dnb royalty....here's more tunes than you can shake a stick at, in 5 minutes!!! It deserves it's own vid, enjoy guys!!! ruclips.net/video/rlx6mVl_PR8/видео.htmlsi=cDoCodNzuEb13QdM
The guy speaking on the intro of this tune is the late great Stevie Hyper D. He is the greatest drum and bass mc to have graced the mic. He sadly passed away at 30 in 1998.You guys should check some of his legendary sets with Nicky Blackmarket, Kenny Ken and loads of others 😉
There is a two part video of The Prototypes feat Skibadee and Eskman call Odyssey. It's not quite in chronological order, but they go from early to "current" for the time.
you guys need to get on some congo natty records tunes - Tribe Of Issachar Feat. Peter Bouncer - Junglist ( no sellout and zinc remixes ) both fiyah , Top Cat - Original Ses (Police In Helicopter) , Tribe Of Issachar Feat: Peter Bouncer - Fever just a few for you

They were British too. 👍
No they're not. There are hundreds of different breaks in jungle. Amen is used a lot but don't overplay it
@@Si_Mondo The Winstons were not British. American.

If you’re going through the old classics then you have to do
Ray Keith - Chopper tune
&
Mampi Swift - The One
Chopper has one of the best drops ever IMO
Ray Keith - Dark Soldier
Which mix of the Chopper you thinking? Because the Original and the Shy FX (the more famous one) are very different tunes.
I’ve had the chance to speak with everyone involved in this tune including the vocalist whose name and sound got left off by how it got pitched up, my extended family. Bless up DRS, Kenny Ken and Stevie
Big up guys 🕺🎼 the drums were written with a akai s1000 sampler & with a Atari 520st computer using cubase sequencer , glad u like , monk
my ultimate jungle track from back in the day (yea a good 25-30 years ago!) was Splash - Babylon (Original Mix)
shit was mad when it dropped at the raves. and the dj splash remix......oh gosh
when the intro of babylon comes into the mix, people used to go crazy.
Those breaks were sampled on an Akai S950 or S1000. Cut in Recycle and edited in Cubase.
Ive got some DJ kenny ken tapes from 23rd November 1993 from the old days when i used to go to Quest Wolverhampton UK also DJ Randall was there with Goldie Amazing buzzin night just looked its up on mixcloud bumbaclat 😂
Kenny Ken is wicked, I bet that tapes unreal 🔥🔥🔥
Yeah I've got some old Kenny ken, Mickey Finn and a few others on tapes but didn't look after them so they don't play no more..... gutted 😢

You should react to drakes timestamps 5AM in Toronto and 6PM in New York
Choon. Re Chase n Status, don't put them too much on a pedestal ...they are very commercial which people really into DnB/jungle wouldn't listen to.
Enjoy though
Dead right, I really don't like when people class chase and status as greats of dnb they are not I wouldn't put them in my top 20
Spot on, chase and status are embarassing, there are 1000s of real dnb artists, stay clear of that sugar costed bandwagon nonsense
v=8J88JmcrAVI might be the closest to "dnb through time".
Again this is jungle not drum n bass it was eventually evolved into Dnb ! Dnb is more simplified beats than breakbeat as this is. Jungle was an offshoot of hardcore breaks which was a more traditional rave sound.
The "Hill and Gully" mix of this is better (sorry to be that guy)

It's not drum an bass it's jungle
Can't accept Drum n Bass, we need jungle I'm afraid.
