Some additional info: elemental status effects scale with the enemy's hp. Punchy has stupid amounts of base hp (I think it's around 60k at lvl1) so you see way higher numbers. That also means the Bobot test isn't entirely accurate, and iirc humanoids should die much faster to elemental status because the damage is not reduced by their armour. Most unique 2-handed broadswords have the exact same nominal dps value in the code, which is the same as the top random draw for procedural rares. Since the video tests only the single-combo burst damage the different nominal firing speeds cause most of the variation. A notable exception is the Solus Katana, which has the same *nominal* dps as all the 28-combo swords but also executes its combo more quickly. Combo speed is also factored into the damage calculation to some extent hence the lower number, but you can deliver this damage more quickly. Also Kunai Blast is crazy OP in terms of raw damage in case anyone had their doubts. Due to the above another contender for top damage would be a procedural rare with max stats and the Blink Explosion secondary. In actual gameplay you of course limit the selection to weapons you can get at T6 or higher due to stat scaling. So basically Solus Katana, Firestorm for caving or Timepierce if you can use the freeze. All of those are beaten by a legacy T10 weapon (moon colony farm) with Blink Explosion.
+Photoloss wow great info! I didn't know the elemental stats were based off hp. That explains a lot and is also strange to me cause most games assign a flat damage to stuff like that. That means any weapon with a status effect is going to always be better than one without that is of equal level. Thanks for the comment!
The interesting part is that humanoid enemies seem to have little to no health scaling but gain large amounts of armour with increasing level. This means a status effect will always kill everything in the same amount of time while direct damage will take progressively longer. The damage is still very low unless you stack a dozen mobs and electrify them. Doom (and probably unused stuff like nitroglycerine) does not scale with user stats or enemy hp, so don't use that on anything that isn't balanced around the appropriate level.
FireSpark81 and the DX rainbow sword is one of the best swords in the game. It's just garbage against punchy because it's a stationary enemy. Against an enemy that moves you can get them to constantly walk into the rainbow rifts and do lots of dps. And they can also be used to block enemies from getting to you when you're at low health so you can escape.
All upgraded weapons are T6. There are other differences though like the fact two one-handed weapons will usually have slightly higher nominal dps than an equivalent two-handed weapon, and the way the actual combo duration is factored into the dps->damage per swing calculation.
I use the upgraded Hokucide because it has the highest base damage. It's only downside is that the special attack does not work on platforms or any other blocks that aren't solid.
Remember kids he is not using the full extent of sword skills. such as the flip slash. if he were to knock punchy in the air he would be able to hit quite a few times with the flip slash. it is also a good evasive tool. and using super spin slash (and regular spin slash) is MUCH more effective when up against a wall.
The Best 2 Weapons are the Hokucide and the AsuterusaberuDX, if were talking about accurate stats. In swing damage, the Hokucide does a bit more damage that the ASDX. But 3 normal swings and a secondary right after might as well be a 4 hit primary swing, which does more damage. The Hoku cant do more damage combos with its secondary, since it doesnt do damage. What I like to do is have both at the ready, and switch back and forth from them. Hope this helps anyone whos confused :)
I prefer the rainbow sword over hokicide Because using its ultimate can have a cleave that while using all three of the max damage set of armor deals 207 base damage
you say in general combat with the protectors broadsword you will only get off 2 combos which makes it seem bad but you get that at the end of the game about the same time you get legendary amours and it will stay up for about 30 secs with them on. and i very much doubt you will have no amour on at that point in the game. also it's 30-25 damage for the flamethrower for the whole duration not including burn damage. plus another 5 damage with burn
I actually got the time pierce without knowing it's existence in the game, it was such a cool weapon and a nice surprise when I found out it freezes enemy's time. And btw the soulseeker is still in the game, I found it somewhere, tried it, threw it in a chest and never touched it again
i did some tests - violium vs protectors vs DX. i dont remember exactly, but biggest dps had Protectors broadsword (with perfect armor all stats) and special abillity it did almost 500 dmg, but little bit lower dmg than violium, which had simillar to DX, but i found DXs abillity as useless (i was using it before and i just didnt use it in fights) but the violium can kinda help you with the secondary abillity when u want to get away etc.
for pure damage i go for the protector sword. In endgame you can do 2 combos (with energy armor even more), the basic swing and than the ability slash to maximise the damage output . But most of the time I use the violium sword cuz you are just so damn agile plus with the right techs no one can touch you. Firestorms fury is only used by me in ice vaults
I think you missed one. The boss at the end of the floran hunting grounds drops it's claw, which I think is a broadsword, but remember it acting like a hammer... Can someone clarify? I can't test for myself because steam is not working properly.
Troy Taschler it's a hammer, it acts exactly like a hammer, I actually do not understand why it acts like a hammer, I think it should be more of a broadsword.
+Celestial Gecko I agree should be sword and yes you are correct it is a hammer. I actually spawned it in then was like wait, that's weird. Then I looked it up and was like oooohhhhh lol
FireSpark81 Actually, if I remember correctly, that changes after you upgrade it at an ancient anvil. I somehow remember getting a 3 swing combo out of it after that... but I didn't keep it with me for too long because the time pierce ended up with almost 60 base damage after upgrading it.
So far i've been using alot the Asuterosaberu , i taught the fiery sword is the best because the after burn + the free light while mining is great but with asutero the astral tear is life savior specialy when i updated to FU you could put an astral tear behind you to slow down enemies and hold the front , Solus katana and the other are a bit clumsy just in my opinion [All upgraded to max tier ofcourse]
Celestial Gecko oh I see what you mean, so after finishing the hylotl quest the hylotl guy will be at your spawn, (to the right of ester or esher) he will give you some quests to find some "furniture" and the last quest he gives you he will give you a hokucide as a reward, my friend also got one from beating a boss so maybe it is also a random drop.
Durasteel broadsword is the best for me. Im using it all the time since i crafted it first time. When using it im just like undieable. But maybe it just great for my play style. Can i find sword with super spin slash on tier 6?
Олег Харченко The violium broadsword at tier 6, and really any other broadsword at tier 4 and above is way better than durasteel. I remember getting a time pierce at tier 3 and I didn't even need the durasteel broadsword at all. Most tier 4 loot weapons also outclass the durasteel broadsword. The only good craftable sword is the violium broadsword.
when upgraded every legendary swords become kinda equal in power and utility, just use the one you like to play with they will all do the job one way or another
+Random doggie This is true because as you see in the video many have the same damage. So even at higher level they will still have the same damage at equal levels. And the upgrade just makes them all level, what? 7 I think.
+Gummy Yup but it is still a broadsword and compared to others it's rather lackluster. Even if you duel wield it you only get 20 damage in the test which is much lower than the others.
Sir Kinguin I feel like That would give those swords an unfair advantage because those are just the upgraded versions of the ones tested so they are clearly superior, unless I'm wrong and at tier 1 they are the same.
Upgrading only changes the tier to 6, it does not grant any direct damage boost. Hence upgraded weapons would perform exactly the same under the conditions in this video.
+FireSpark81 but the truth is, those swords have fixed tier. Even if u find asutroXD at tier 1 planet, it will not be tier 1. Therefore, comparing swords in tier1 is not useful cuz u cant even get them in real gameplay.
+FireSpark81 well I watched it twice. But I still think it is not very useful -unlike your other videos- cuz it is not possible to use it in real gameplay.
+Nerim1125 If the sword does more damage at level one than the other level one swords then it will always do more damage than other swords of equal level. I say this in the video and I don't know how to explain it any simpler. And I explained it just so I wouldn't get comments like this so you can see my frustration.

The general picture of "everything is almost the same except these two suck" is pretty accurate though. For the record the Protectorate Broadsword is actually much worse than the others as you demonstrated, having a base dps of 10 (13 when empowered) while most legendaries have 11.5, and procedural rares actually go from 10.5 to 11.5. So while the method wasn't perfect your video is fine for showing the main points anyway. Btw, found any redeeming qualities on the Pollen Pump yet? XD
the first time i saw time pierce i was thinking: "Okay, who put Kingdom Hearts and Za Warudo in my Starbound game? i want to thank them!"
Some additional info: elemental status effects scale with the enemy's hp. Punchy has stupid amounts of base hp (I think it's around 60k at lvl1) so you see way higher numbers. WOAH WOAH.. Soulseeker is still in the game and it is ONLY 1 HANDED! (you can double up for uber damage as well as upgrade them in the ancients)
All upgraded weapons are T6. There are other differences though like the fact two one-handed weapons will usually have slightly higher nominal dps than an equivalent two-handed weapon, and the way the actual combo duration is factored into the dps->damage per swing calculation.
Joseph Pattison thank you
Time Stop : explosive damage does hurt the enemy while the time is stopped!!
I use the upgraded Hokucide because it has the highest base damage. It's only downside is that the special attack does not work on platforms or any other blocks that aren't solid.

I also slowed down and the reading was about 20 damage for the full extent of your characters energy on the Firestorms Fury
What's that legendary spear in you inventory?
Been busy the last few months, Great to be watching you again!
+Paul Echo Paul! Glad to have you back!
11:12 , it's a 1-hand sword, you can equip a shield or another soulseeker, one of my favorite weapons
SOULSEEKER IS 1 HANDED. HOW DID YOU MISS THAT?

"we could do this but certainly not without being naked"
proceeds to take off clothes and continue the video
Knight Artorias would be proud at the Violium sword. :D
I actually got the time pierce without knowing it's existence in the game, it was such a cool weapon and a nice surprise when I found out it freezes enemy's time. And btw the soulseeker is still in the game, I found it somewhere, tried it, threw it in a chest and never touched it again

I think the best sword in my honest opinion is either Solus Katana or the time pierce, both have great advantages
+Celestial Gecko Yea out of all of them it seemed to have the highest amount of damage. Even more so if you hit something with all the spikes.
FireSpark81 and the time pierce when they can freeze your enemy to give you a few extra seconds to heal, can save your life if used correctly
Asuteru Saberu DX for da win!!!!!
Celestial Gecko I
Great vid! So strange that so many of the swords have equal base damage with the only real differences being their secondary.
Strange? Copy-paste is much faster than typing in new numbers for each one :P
Hokucide for the secondary and raw damage once upgraded and the Violium Broadsword for the alt.

Aren't tier 8 swords available from your ship?
could you do this test in best armour since some people say hocuside does more damage than oculos reaver and others
TSUNAMI the hokuside can do more damage only if you upgrade it (not including secondary damage)
Teh best swod is the sword you code in JSON >:D
+DownMan Maverick Yes.
yeaj ur right xd
what is the mod u use?
AsuteroSabero DX is the best
How do you spawn the weapon AsuteroSabero DX
/spawnitem astrosaberdelux
i think
idk about you all, but i got one naturally, but it wasn't the strongest it could be (levels and all)
20 min video!?!? WHAAAAAA? LOVE IT
+Joseph Pattison yea funny cause it was supposed to be super short. And I cut a ton out lmao
I have never seen a quest in the outpost That can give you a sword, somebody explain please
Celestial Gecko actually you can get the hokucide from the final frontier quest from the hyotl person
Sir Kinguin okay thanks! I've done a few of his quests but stopped because I never found them useful, I'll have to look into That.
Durasteel broadsword is the best for me. Im using it all the time since i crafted it first time.
When using it im just like undieable. But maybe it just great for my play style.
Can i find sword with super spin slash on tier 6?

If you use the rocket jump tech and activate the super spin slash mid-air you can fly for a second or two.
how do you get hakucide i cant find in the comments
You know the hylotl guy you rescue from the grand pagoda? Complete all the quests he gives you, then hell give you the sword.
Love the new vid ur my favorite youtuber
+Welp! That just happened.
10:39 most attack that pull enemies in wont work on punchy for unkown reasons
can u make a video of every upgradable weapon plz...
when upgraded every legendary swords become kinda equal in power and utility, just use the one you like to play with they will all do the job one way or another
oh ok,didnt know that thx man 😀
+Random doggie This is true because as you see in the video many have the same damage. So even at higher level they will still have the same damage at equal levels. And the upgrade just makes them all level, what? 7 I think.
how do you get the punch bag
+beefierbinkie48 Spawn commands.
oh ok thx
love your videos by the way
+beefierbinkie48 Ty! Glad you enjoy them.
Go in admin mode (/admin) then type /spawn monster punchy and point you curse were you want it before you press enter
IDK, I personally find the rusted iron longdirk to be the best broadsword... but then again who's counting?
bruh the soulseeker is the only 1 handed broadsword
Soulseeker doesnt have a combo/special because its one handed
+Gummy Yup but it is still a broadsword and compared to others it's rather lackluster. Even if you duel wield it you only get 20 damage in the test which is much lower than the others.
Now i am using a firestorms fury but i had an oculus reaver i've found it in the chest but i think firestorms fury is better
What guy in the Outpost?
A NPC you unlock during story missions.
@@xMYx507 is it the hylotl?
@@stinkymonke3622 Probably, haven't played in a while and he was the only one without an actual function on a standard basis.
@@xMYx507 ye got it today
I like the fire storms furry and Astro saber
the parry ability is useful
Mod plz
I like the violium sword
you shoudlve included upgraded weapons

You’re supposed to dualwield the soul seeker.
The soul seeker is a one handed sword
Soulseeker's a 1 handed sword. You could in theory dual wield it.
Karagianis dual wielding will only double the damage making it 20 and still doesn't have any special moves so either way it isn't a good weapon
+Celestial Gecko yea considering some of the others did 28. The only way it could be better is if it spawned at a high tier than all other swords.
FireSpark81 Good point.
you place mod in game to m.m upgrade men you use a mod our no but whats you crafting a blades???
i dont know how to get the hokucide!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a decent video, but I really wish you were better at using them.
Novakid master race
Justin Richards I prefer the glitch race :)
Celestial Gecko those are my second favorite :o
Justin Richards no penguins
Ya where’s the electric baton
This video is #dablicious Let's make this a meme
lol cuz U spawned those items, they are all at tier 1. In reality, those swords have different dmgs.
which means, u have to record this again.
+Nerim1125 did you even watch the video?
+FireSpark81 but the truth is, those swords have fixed tier. Even if u find asutroXD at tier 1 planet, it will not be tier 1.
Therefore, comparing swords in tier1 is not useful cuz u cant even get them in real gameplay.
+Nerim1125 once again I explained this in the video. Maybe you should watch it again.

wow great math 👍😃
+Thomas Weber Ha! The worst math lol
Fire starter crew
is there anyone who likes Protector Broadsword?
Ps: i like violium one
I would say the Hokucide or Asuterosaberu DX (both Japanese swords) are my favorite
+Benjamin Tiemann Hokucide is very utilitarian.
indeed. I also wonder why I didn't get a notification for this comment? happened not to long ago with another comment.
so many same damange ... shouldve been a higher level to test damage ... rookie error
+StyleZ 521 like I stated in the video I did it to show base damage because if the base damage is higher then it will always be better than any sword of equal or lower level. So not a rookie error, you just fail to understand the concept.
Testing with everything at level 10 would have improved accuracy though. If you pay close attention there's one instance where several quick hits add up to less than performing each strike individually. Even with the source code available I can't tell if that would have made any difference though, the coded dps values are the same and the fire rates vary by less than 10%. Combo speed is weird.
+Photoloss I looked at the lua file as far as I can tell damage increases at the same rate per level. So change the level would have given same base line if they are all equal. As for accuracy, you are correct I didn't take that into account. I honestly didn't even know it was a thing.
I meant the accuracy of the damage display, that thing always rounds to whole numbers. The damage calculation is the same, but you didn't elaborate on the attack speed. The Solus Katana and Asuterosaberu have the same dps with different "fireTime" which probably explains the lower per-combo damage, you have a lower recharge time between combos with the Solus.
However in my tests with custom parameters even when leaving these two basic parameters the same there's also a damage multiplier for each combo step (notice the second slash always does less damage than the other two) and IIRC the speed of each step is also taken into account. Not something you can explain to the average viewer though.
Some people might be morons going "uuh, you aren't using endgame stats n00b!1!" but others are suggesting actual improvements or simply have different criteria for the "best" weapon.
XD
