My dads a convicted felon and when I was little I asked him what he went to prison for and he told me it’s because he cut the tag off a mattress believed this up till about age 11 when I learned it was multiple counts of armed robbery. Edit: I didn’t think my comment would get this many likes wow

It's not illegal to remove the mattress tags AS A CONSUMER. It's illegal to remove the tags AS A RETAILER. If you sell mattresses you can't commit fraud and remove/replace tags. When you buy the product and are going to sleep on it you can do WHATEVER YOU WANT to it including removing the tag.
You missed some crazy laws from San Francisco, California. I only know the reason for one of them and it actually makes sense. The others, not so much. 1.
