I think that by "duel" he does not mean they are competing - he means that during a lot of the song they are going back and forth and not playing at the same time.

The word dual (your spelling) is an adjective referring to something with two parts (i.e. a dual axle on a truck). The word duel is a noun and originally had one meaning only - a fight between two people using deadly weapons. Later it was used more euphemistically - especially in a musical setting - as singing or playing an instrument in a sort of "question and answer" fashion with another person. You would probably need to be more in tune (pun intended) with the music scene to know this, so don't worry about it too much.
