Guitarist Wareham, drummer Damon Krukowski and bassist Naomi Yang began playing together as Galaxie 500 in 1987, after their time as students at Harvard University. The band's name comes from a Ford car of the 1960s, the Ford Galaxie 500. Galaxie 500's records were released in the US and UK on the independent Rough Trade label and went out of print upon Rough Trade's demise. Galaxie 500's entire catalog, along with a box set including singles, EPs and rarities was reissued during the 1990s by Rykodisc.
Galaxie 500 leveraged fairly minimal instrumental technique with intense atmospherics, provided by producer Mark Kramer, and their distinctive sound bore an influence beyond the small audience for their independently released albums. The sound and the increasingly loyal audience grew with each release until Wareham quit the band in 1991. To mark twenty years since the release of the Galaxie 500 albums, Wareham embarked on his Dean Wareham Plays Galaxie 500 tour.
Galaxie 500 might have lasted only briefly, but their influence casts a long shadow through indie music. Now singer/guitarist/songwriter Dean Wareham is playing the old songs on this special tour, joined by his wife (and former Luna bandmate) Britta Phillips on bass and St Vincent's drummer of choice, Anthony Lamarca.
Absolutely perfect. Thank you.
Dean has the coolest speaking voice ever damn
Lyrics:
You will search, babe, at any cost,
But how long, babe, can you search for what's not lost ?
Everybody will help you,
Some people are very kind.
But if I can save you any time,
Come on, give it to me,
I'll keep it with mine.
I can't help it if you might think I am odd
If I say I'm not loving you for what you are
But for what you're not.
Everybody will help you,
Discover what you set out to find
But if I can save you any time,
Come on, give it to me,
I'll keep it with mine.
The train leaves at half past ten
But it'll be back tomorrow same time again.
The conductor, he's weary,
Still stuck on the line.
But if I can save you any time,
Come on, give it to me,
I'll keep it with mine.
Great gig in Newcastle other night !!
Very much like Susannah Hoffs version with Rainy Day
This song lends itself to many interpretations. It leaves plenty of room for a vocalist to put their own spin on it. Everybody, however, makes it sound like Nico or Fairport. Why? Dylan doesn't sing it that way. Put some force behind it. When you sing "C'mon give it to me. I'll keep it with mine." make it sound like you are trying to convince her -- almost begging. It definitely adds something to it. As it is, it falls dead on the ear.
the instruments are great, the singer is clearly intimidated and doesn't wish to offend or pretend...she's in a difficult spot
but you are right, and I'm not sure a woman should try to sing this..no offense, but if Judy Collins sounds worse than this..maybe we should leave this one alone, and let Bob have one all by himself....
Not everybody, check this version with czech lyrics: ruclips.net/video/85q7tVSrqKI/видео.html (although it's just a small part from TV documentary)
my dear, is a version like nico, not Dylan. Ok? It's beautifull

Sandy Denny’s (original FC 1969) is unequivocally open-hearted and compelling - everything you say you want.
