taylor surprised hayley with her grandfather’s song “friends or lovers” which is mixed into crystal clear. hayley’s grandparents have been together since they were 12 years old. that’s also the age hayley and taylor were when they first met. hayley called the moment taylor played the song for her “a full circle moment”.

In a recent interview, she says she has nightmares about water, because it ties back to her toxic relationship and it’s a symbol of darker times. She references water a lot in songs. In pool, she’s underwater with no air in her lungs, in dead horse, she’s being held underwater. Both pool and dead horse, which have to do with her ex, the water is so heavy on her and it’s killing her, but here in this song, the water isn’t scary. She can see, she can breathe, and she isn’t sinking and how in the past, what she thought was water, was concrete (Chad) and she dove straight in. These last five songs are definitely hinting at her being in a relationship, and if she is, I’m so happy for her because wow you can really hear how happy she is while she sings these last five songs. I’m happy for her, truly. It’s a wonderful feeling to be out of dark murky water, it’s beautiful, the feeling of knowing you’re in clear water now.

I hope this album makes us all realise that being able to talk about our feelings, even the “negative” ones is the best solution to everything. It comes with fear, but it’s makes us more human and grown. Hayley came to tell us this with this one.

I hope that Hayley can read this. I've been listening to your voice and belts since I was a silly little kid. Now I'm getting into my 20's and part of me is terrifyed. I'm also discovering a lot of trauma from my past, and doing my best to move on from fear. I just want to show how grateful I'm. This album is definitly making a mark in my life. Also, I'm very proud of you. I'm an artist too, and heavenly inspired by this project. That's the beauty of art, it never ends in to the emissor, it's an endless net of conections. Anyway, I really love you. We won't give in to the fear.

Same! I found Paramore when I was about 7 and I’m in my 20s now. Unfortunately I have found traumas too. For a long time I just wanted a cure, something to make it all better, but I’ve realized that healing isn’t linear. It’s messy and the path isn’t straight and it goes up and down but as long as we try and give ourselves love, I mean, it’s a good start right? Hope it goes well you, I hope you find yourself in lots of love and light and petals 🌸

Met a lovely man years ago at Hi-Fi Cruisin and it was Hayley’s grandat. He was wearing an Elvis TCB necklace like Hayley’s tattoo. He told the story of how he built Hayley a performance stage in his backyard when she was just a little kid. I remember how we talked about Hayley’s career and he was so proud of his granddaughter. What a wonderful tribute to include her grandat in the song.

You know what I always felt that when she wrote “Hate to see your heart break” I always thought there was an undertone of a love song. Hayley said in one interview with Zane “songs know you man” and I said yes! Of course that old song screamed love for Taylor... maybe she couldn’t see it like a romantic love at the time but for sure she loved him even then. Cuz you listen to other songs that are about her friendships even Zac, Jeremy, Bryan, the band are so different haha 😂 is it just me!? Maybe I’m just a romantic haha

I cried because so many of these songs hit hard for me, I have my own trauma’s I’m working through, and this one, I was in a bad spot before. My past relationship was so toxic and abusive and so horrible that I can’t believe I held my breath for so long. The one I’m in now, it’s just like she says, I can breathe and it’s crystal clear.

This song hits different now that Hayley admitted she's dating Taylor. T is the current "healthy relationship" that H has, that she tried to sabotage because she was scared. But it's crystal clear; they love each other more than just best friends. "Here we go, gonna risk it again... I won't give in to the fear" (and face it head on because none of it was ever worth the risk and T was the only exception)

Pool is one of my favorite songs of all time. The lyrical parallels she makes to it here are so beautiful. The second verse especially makes me tear up every time. We’re so lucky to have Hayleys music.

The lyric “now you’re pumpin’ air to my lungs” always hits me hard. It makes me think of my best friend dani! I feel down all the time and she always boosts me up and makes me feel good about myself!
I have to say I'm really impressed with her solo stuff. I usually sleep on a lot of artists from bands that go off to do their own thing because it usually sucks but Hayley's music is so creative, experimental and fused with so many influences.
I hear funk grooves, post punk production with those snappy drums and great color to the sound( those dark strings on the album are siick). Deep lyrics with a dark 80s pop kind of flavor. You can definitely hear tastes of the cure, the smith's and billy idol fused with radio head, oasis and 90s early 2000s indie songwriters. Great job Hayley and Taylor! Looking forward to more solo stuff and Paramore 6! I always knew you guys were real artists..as a ten yr old I knew something was up about Avril lol but I knew you guys were the real deal.
Crystal Clear,” is a soft track detailing Hayley’s willingness to move on with her life and how she will no longer live in fear or slow down with her life. Just like “Pure Love”, the track sees her growing and leaving behind all the pain she has bottled through her twenties.
This is another love song (presumably about the person mentioned in “Taken”) and seems to be a continuation of the water metaphor seen in “Dead Horse” and “Pool.” She has now found clear/smooth waters in her new relationship, as compared to the old one.

it's only a while ago that i have the courage to listen to the entire Petals for Armor album. when i got to this song, i know it will hit me for some reason and when the second verse came, i lost it.. "only to find the water is concrete, and now you're pumpin' air to my lungs, this don't feel anything like sinking..." i cried more than i cried when i heard Why We Ever, i don't really know why. This feels like an ending of a beautiful movie or book, but not quite an end. it has become my favorite song from the album aside from Why We Ever..
