Hell yeah its so cool to see a steam loco pulling revenue freight gives those of us who were not around back then a chance to see what it must have been like back in the 40s and 50s!
Thank you very much Dan yup I try, takes a little bit of splicing in for the audio I try my best on that too, matching the audio up with the video. About the train really the railroad this was just something else, a real kudos to Reading & Northern, Andy Muller Jr. where else can we ever see something like this, they are unbelievable.. I'm glad to have all of us who were able to see this test, last month's test, both, or all the tests so far to have just been able to witness this awesome history..
Thank you for watching North Country Trains greetings from along the Reading & Northern Railroad in Pennsylvania. Please do come down for a Reading Ramble run if not Reading & Northern is doing Fall Fiolage Operations with 2102.. I am hearing something about the Fall he should 425 running in the Lehigh Gorge Scenic RR they may duel with the whistles 425 & 2102...
Thank you very much Mitchell that means a lot 🚂. As for Reading & Northern, it all comes from the top right from Andy Muller Jr right down to every employee working on his railroad. He does things the old school way but also the right way, who actually on a modern railroad installs lighted switch stands in the yards, who really preserves old school railroad signage mostly that's what museum/tourist railroads do. He allows railfans on his railroad property as long as we use common sense and be respectful.. Every day as of now he is expanding his railroad empire, while even the big class 1 RR are loosing customers, he is gaining new ones.
Don Ball Jr., writing in 1975: "Thank God, a few diehard railroad presidents refused to let the Iron Horse disappear! Out of the shops of Reading came some of their big T-1's--certainly the biggest and best ever to haul Reading's Rambles.... Today, when I can see Union Pacific's 8444, or the 2102, or 759, I rejoice that there are still a few iron horses that can kick their iron hooves in the face of a diesel!" also r&n needs a vastly bigger turntable lol
Thank you for watching insearchofthemusesI agree 100% all starts with upper management then it filters down to all employees. Mr. Andy Muller Jr. is just awesome at running his railroad he is really looking out for the future of his railroad while preserving the past, and having a blast doing so. As for that turntable, he doesn't have the room right there in Port Clinton unless he chops away at the mountain I believe but is putting in a new switch and lead into the stall #1 of the steam shop to accommodate 2102 better as seen at 22:35 in the video a back door was just installed on the building itself. As for turning 2102 around from what I heard Andy might be constructing a wye at North Reading Yard, just north of Outer Station part of it would cross Rt 61 down there.
@@LibertyRailfan 2101 is still around but will never run again. I'm looking forward to 2100. I hope it turns out as well as 2102 did. Would also be nice to restore 2124 but probably won't be able to find the money for that. At the time of the Rambles I think 2125 was kept for parts but was scrapped when that program ended.
Thank you for watching Rails of the East greetings from along the Reading & Northern Railroad in Pennsylvania. Ohh yes it should be great next weekend..
Thank you for watching Crazy Pickles greetings from along the Reading & Northern... Well this was just totally awesome and it helps having an owner of the railroad that is willing to do something like this.. Running his equipment and railroad the way it shold be run, Andy Muller is not afraid of showing off and doing things the old school waym the right way! There are other cool locomotives out there such as cough cough 4014 but UP isn't making her run the way she was meant to be run. So thankful for Andy Muller Jr and his Reading & Northern railroad...
fantastic video, you should be really proud of the quality and production of your video. Very happy to see a steam engine pulling a load and without any diesel involved. Also no overuse of the engines whistle.
Thank you for watching TABRAO, that means a lot thank you very much. Greetings trackside along the Reading & Northern Railroad, I agree Andy Muller and his Reading & Northern railroad really know how to run a railroad with steam the old school way.
Thank you for watching Trains in Slovakia - Vlaky na Slovensku greetings from along the Reading & Northern Railroad in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Thank you for watching Christopher, where else in the United States right now could we have actually seen this unbelievable sight, a steam locomotive actually pulling a substantial load of freight.. I glad you enjoyed, the video.. If at all chance check the R&N schedule for the upcoming Reading Rambles I will be riding on the last in Sept 3rd. Planning on still chasing the others, 100% thankful to Andy Muller Jr, Tyler Glass, and everyone working on this railroad.. What railroad company these days publically gives updates about locomotives testing such as this, really it's the best way of advertising and marketing for customer relations/the public..
Thank you for watching Nate greetings from along the Reading & Northern Railroad in Pennsylvania. This is something just totally unbelievable here what Andy Muller is doing with his railroad. While we play with our model trains, virtual trains on the simulators, he is out there playing with his real railroad and enjoying the railroad life 1000% percent.
@@LibertyRailfan You're welcome Adam. for sure! If I could afford an actual railroad I'll probably be doing the same thing that he is lol but at this moment of time I don't think any of us can afford buying an actual railroad to play trains on ..
Thank you for watching The Arctic Gamer greetings from along the Reading & Northern. Well it was well documented of what the T1 4-8-4 could do from the RDG days. Really the Reading & Northern in their early days did do coal hopper moves with the locomotive they know the capabilities of her.
@@LibertyRailfan still, it's the first time something like this has been done in decades. For some railfans this is probably the first time they've ever seen a steam engine pull a full length freight train.
@@trainknut Seeing this train was a few firsts for me as well. This was my first time seeing an actual steam-powered freight train other than the photo freight charters. Another first me seeing an actual Reading & Northern coal drag. I've been lucky enough to see some of the Reading & Northern freights like the NRFF but it was on my bucket list to see an R&N coal drag. I've seen plenty of NS, CSX, BNSF, & UP coal but this was my first time seeing a Reading & Northern coal train. I think the best coal train I've now ever seen wonder that 2102 is part of that reason, lol. :-). Yup....

Thank you for watching Phoenix J NYC greetings from along the Reading & Northern Railroad in Pennsylvania. Ohh yeah this railroad is something else the CEO has really knows how to run his railroad, if you get he chance to come out to the Reading & Northern please do and see this locomotive.
RBM&N did a remarkable job with this restoration. I love that they have 2102 out moving 100 car hopper trains as a test, basically doing exactly what Reading originally built it for. Got to give The Reading a lot of credit here, for being recycled home rebuilt locomotives the T-1 engines have demonstrated remarkable durability and longevity. A product as good as anything the big three might have produced. And with such clean tasteful lines. They look great.
One of my favorite fallen flags the RDG.. Glad to see some of the power still going on strong 2102, 2100, some of the locos at the Reading Historical society. Very thankful to Andy Muller, Tyler Glass, and the Whole Reading & Northern family for keeping the RDG history alive. Really this was the right way to test 2102 after the restoration they could have just ran a load test with a few diesel locos but this was the real way, the correct way.
@@LibertyRailfan It reminds me of 3985 moving a stack train solo over Sherman hill. NS used to do the hundred car hopper test with the J and A as well. I do miss those days. Kind of criminal the 1218 is as empty as a bowling alley inside and unlikely to run again. I'm really astonished with the quality of the work the RBM&N team has done on 2102, it's a beautiful locomotive, mechanical art. Hopefully we can get 2100 running here in Cleveland and get some double header action!
@@dtj9923 It is a shame that NS has done away with the Steam programs just focusing on the operations and not true railroading. "Shareholders first, railroad later" kind of attitude. This is where the Reading & Northern and many other regional companies/short lines now flourish.. While I still like seeing the trains and crews of class 1 operations I care for those companies not as much as what I used to. I care more for the smaller companies such as the Reading & Northern, SMS, M&E, NYSW, the better NS "North Shore" to me they are better railroads. I like what you are saying about 2100 hopefully in the nearer future within a few years we could see a doubleheader would be awesome.
@@LibertyRailfan Unfortunately in the case of the NS steam program they got a new CEO who decided to kill the program pretty quickly as a cost savings measure. Pretty much how steam ended on the N&W in the first place. 1218 was literally gutted in the middle of a boiler overhaul at the time, they just buttoned it up and sent it back to Roanoke as a shell. I love stories like the Ohio Central with Jerry Jacobsen running steam freights behind any of his engines just because he could. I agree with you, love the smaller operations and the close knit railroader culture that goes with them.
Oh wow. I'm going to use an overused word I don't use very often because it's so overused, but here goes: MAN, that was AWESOME! Thanks for bringing us along Adam! If this video doesn't turn people into steam freaks there's something wrong with them!
Thank you for watching Wayne greetings from along the Reading & Northern Railroad.. I agree with everything you just have said... I have said this before but because the way Andy Muller runs his railroad really makes everything that Reading & Northern does just unbelievable. I have seen 611 plenty of times now, 1225, 261, 765, the Big Boy, many other of the smaller steam locos they don't compare to 425 or this the 2102. Something really special here that Andy Muller has his railroad do, he opens his locomotives up and really puts them to the test.
@@LibertyRailfan Adam, I hope Andy Muller's around for a long, long time and takes measures to ensure his legacy endures when he's not. I remember what happened to the Susquehanna and its steam program when Walter Rich died. The Suzy-Q steam program was killed immediately and the company's board of directors started looking for a buyer for the Susquehanna. I think in the end there was a joint purchase of the same by CSX and N-S. I'd hate to see the same happen to the R&N.
@@wayneantoniazzi2706 I do hope the same that Reading & Northern never turns out like NYSW has.. I think though Andy has created a culture of railroading people love the trips and his company is thriving with freight. The NYSW during the excursion years never built or had any decent stations where trips would originate from on a typical basis. Andy now has built up stations from the ground up, and is utilizing whatever station building that still stands along his right of way. There is only one station that I know of along the whole NYSW that is still in use by the RR that's in Binghamton all other station that I know of are now in private use or museums. As with Andy he just built two stations where trains normally use now, the Reading Outer Station just a few years ago was a dilapidated strip mall, also the Tamaqua station is now a restaurant in private hands not RR, but the property outside Andy just restored the platforms put up fencing/gates for people lining up to board the train. I think he has great plans to pass the baton to someone or group who will keep the railroad going as he has it now. Also, Andy has his LGSRY in Jim Thorpe which actually operates on a daily basis again something NYSW didn't have even 20-30 years ago. NYSW had regular commuter operations that basically ceased back in the 50's they never kept up excursions on somewhat of a regular basis as R&N has done.
@@LibertyRailfan Right, as I understand it the R&N is more like a family than a business and with sky-high worker morale. And as a privately-owned concern Andy doesn't have a board of directors to answer to, which is another plus. (At least I think he doesn't.) We rode one of those NYS&W excursions back in the 90's and compared to the NS steam program which had been dropped a year before it was kind of primitive, but fun just the same. Still, it was a shame to see it go. I just love that name "Reading Outer Station!" It sounds like it's out in the wilds even though I know it's not.

Thank you for watching Nate, absutoely this was a step back in time.... Greetings from one magical railway company the Reading Blue Mountain and Northern Railroad. If you are in the Reading PA area I suggest you check them out or if you are elsewhere if you can get the chase to plan a trip and pay the railroad a visit, do it.. @@LibertyRailfan so in 2017 my partner and I visited PA and we drove up to the RBMN to look around, since I had always heard about it, and seen videos of the 425 pounding through the woods and was completely awestruck. While there, we caught a glimpse of 2102's tender at the shops, and it had me excited! Now watching this absolute UNIT of a locomotive thundering along the track, I absolutely HAVE to visit again and see her in person. 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
@@nategriffin4226 many of the rumors floating around.. but... 2102 will run this summer but in the near future there might be a 2100 visit from Ohio to have a double header or two run on the Reading & Northern... That still maybe a year or two away from happening all depends on the guys with 2100 out in Ohio.. Now what I can tell you for Steam on Andy's Railroad the 425 is now out of service anywhere from 1.5 to 2 or so years.. 425 is only OOS for her tear-down FRA inspection, once she is fully inspected she will be running again.. 2102 is getting some drive gear work done and some minor stuff she should be ready for this excursion season from what I heard.
@@LibertyRailfan you're a saint for this info! I'll be keeping a look out for updates on that doubleheader! That would be incredible to witness. Thanks so much, so glad I discovered this channel! 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
I would die happy watching a video of 2102 pulling 100 cars through a snowstorm. That would be awsome to see the single headlight cut through the snow before cruising by.
Thank you for watching Al Leoni well only two ways will happen, as of right now.. First, take any of these videos by any of us who filmed the train back in May for the test and get something like Adobe Premiere and add snow effects to the video. A second more true way is to give feedback to the railroad and Andy Muller.. 2102 is his baby, so it would be totally up to him to run a test during the winter time... We can only hope and I think it will happen, but Reading & Northern does do Santa Clauss trips 425 has pulled a few of those trains while the snow was falling, so maybe he will put 2102 in charge of some of those Santa trips this year or in the future, it won't be with 100 coal hoppers but the passenger cars of the Santa train but I think it would be cool.
Thank you for watching Everett the PE TractionGuy, same here I got a T1 model as well.. In my opinion for modern times 2102 is one bad ass locomotive, comparing it to even the Bigboy 4014.. 4014 is such a great locomotive but Union Pacific isn't letting it do what it was designed to do... Here with 2102 Andy Muller has done everything the right way 100 empty cars on a somewhat mountain/hilly line, then if that wasn't good enough, 50 loaded coal hoppers in reverse... Andy Muller really knows how to run and operate a railroad, Union Pacific could learn a thing or two, from the Reading & Northern lol.
Awesome that must have been an honor for your dad, even though it was his job... Glad he got to do fire 2102 back then in the 50's, and today 2102 is operational again!
Nice I know there will be a lot of chasers including myself, I hope to get her on the other runs as well, but the last Rambles run in September I know that I won't be there to chase the train as I will be somewhere else, I'll be riding behind her!!! 🙂
Thank you for watching Elliott greetings from along the Reading & Northern Railroad in Pennsylvania. I really hope you can see 2102 for yourself one day or 765 out in Ohio or any other steam locomotive I think you'll really like seeing steam. Actually, out in your state of Ohio, they are fixing up 2102's sister loco #2100 should be running in hopefully 2 years.
Thank you for watching Keith greetings from along the Reading & Northern Railroad in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. I agree the owner of this railroad really knows how to show off his railroad, Mr Andy Muller Jr he something wonderful going here. Actually even though this is only a class 2 railroad a regional line, the way he operates his railroad reminds of how things are done in Europe right on the main lines seeing that they still operate steam at full track speeds for special events, here in the USA it's rare to see steam operating at track speeds on the main lines anymore, but thank to Andy and his Reading & Northern RR which has over 420 miles of track he knows how to run a good railroad while others don't anymore here in the USA.
I'm just a RUclipsr/Railfan I'm not the railroad, only way is to find out what it will be today.. The T1 are equipped with two valves for two separate chimes/whistles, they had one for passenger and the hooter for freight.
Thank you for watching Christopher greetings from the Walt Disney World of Railroading the Reading & Northern Railroad which seems to be the most magical railroad in the USA in these modern times. Lol Well I have to say about the engineers not waving anymore it really depends on what railroad and how the crews are treated. Almost every time on this railroad "Reading & Northern" the engineers are very friendly and still give a wave, the horn/whistle or both. Honestly in this video with this test train just seeing CEO Mr. Andy Muller at the throttle he was grinning from ear to ear was thanks enough, what railroad these days gives a heads up a few days in advance saying that they were going to do testing on a specific date and certain time. Andy Muller doesn't mind us breaking the traditional railfan rules by being on his property just as long as we use common sense and play it safe stay off the tracks but its okay to quickly cross only when you look both ways and make sure no train or locomotive is in sight. As for other railroads I live in New Jersey and what a mess sometimes railfanning watching trains as from time to time you will get a visit from police thanks to Aunt Karen calling you in. Anyways aside from that New Jersey Transit most of the engineers will still give you a friendly wave or even a toot of the horn, on Amtrak, it's mostly the same most engineers wave or blast the horn, most other short lines are mostly all friendly as well such as the NYSW, C&D, or the M&E. Now it comes to the class 1 RR like NS and CSX well sometimes those companies treat their employees/crews like dirt, so you are right some of the engineers don't wave anymore they block themselves from being seen, or every so often you get the middle finger right from the cab.
thank you for watching @frankbaker9117 yup that's true... Really true with most steam locomotives of the same class, basically like look at the 4014 the UP Big Boy... It just pushed a stalled modern diesel freight, while pulling its own train... That steam is a very powerful force...
Anybody know what kind or mixture of coal 2102 is using? Would be sad if at least some of it is not anthracite. It's my understanding that the T-1's were designed for a mixture of 90% bituminous and 10% anthracite.
I haven't gotten a straight answer yet.. I will be out there on this Saturday chasing the train, but I've heard many say anthracite, also does state that on Wikipedia.. Next month I'll be riding the train I will try my best to ask one of the employees.
Thank you for watching LittlePastelKitten I guess if 2102 pulled 100 cars that were loaded then there possibly might have been a little struggle, but I think Andy Muller and the steam crew have tested her and broken her in right 100 empty cars but then 50 cars with loads she is over 70 years old so I think that they have broken her in right.
I’m hoping to ride the austin railroad excursion, Texas state railroad when they run steam, amtrak from Texas to Cali then the coast starlight to seattle, all this year. With things the way they are better sooner than later
Hope your trip works out well, Jwrailv&e... As I do hope that everyone that has paid for a ticket to ride behind 2102 will be able to do so.. I can only imagine some cancellations will happen due to the rising fuel prices and inflation some who have tickets may not be able to make the journey to get to Pennsylvania. I'm only in New Jersey I am going to do everything in my power to see the other Rambles besides ride behind 2102 in September.
American Premium Coal must be one of BMR&N's biggest on-line shippers. It's nice to see coal business doing so well. 2102 fits in perfectly in that environment. 2102 seems to be performing flawlessly. It's amazing it can pull 100 cars even if empty. It still does the job it was built for. I'm happy Andy Muller was able to restore 2102 and run it again.
Thank you for watching g bridgman greetings from along the Reading & Northern... I agree I would say so American Premium Coal has to be one of their bigger coal customers, I would have to say that they must have some others to I would imagine along the other branches due to how many coal hoppers Andy has it just has to be somewhere in the 200-300 range I think I have seen many this 100 car test train proves it as there were 175 hoppers total, the 99 empty, the 50 loaded.. The 50 loaded were part of a 75 coal hopper train they left around 20-25 something of loaded hoppers from that train in Tamaqua.. It's just gotta be around the 300 mark if not more for the amount of hopper Reading & Northern has. As for 2102 pulling the cars Andy did it right, he could have done what other railroads would do in this day and age for a test.. He could have just used a few diesels to do the load test, but no Andy just had to be a show off with 2102, lol. I am sure the glad he went with the old school route it was amazing in this day and age a sort of a once in a lifetime experience that's for sure!

@@diegohorton869 I am wonder about the 50 loaded cars but as we can see from the Raptor Vision view the cars weren't loaded up to the tops. Last month we were told that 50 empty coal hoppers equal about the same as 18 loaded passenger cars.
@@LibertyRailfan Are your sure about burning Anthracite? Because when the T1 2101 was used on the American Freedom Trains and the Chessie Steam Special it burned 100% Bituminous coal. Pure Anthracite does not burn well in a locomotive due to its slow burn rate and lack of VOCs that out gas from the coal to ignite in the combustion chamber. Back in the steam days, if a railroad would use Anthracite at all, it would be mixed in with 60% to 70% Bituminous coal. I'm pretty sure that Wiki page is not 100% correct on the fuel type for T1s.

@@markantony3875 It's my understanding the T1s were built to burn anthracite same as DL&W locomotives did. There's a book on the T1s and the Reading Rambles that explains it.
@@1940limited The I Class 2-8-0 that they were rebuilt from were designed to burn anthracite waste coal or culm. The culm was left over from the mining process, and the Reading got it cheap. When rebuilt into 4-8-4s, they burned a mixture of bituminous coal (60 to 70%) and the anthracite waste. The reason why they had to switch was anthracite burns too slowly in a large locomotive to create enough steam quickly.
Steam trains after restoration Up 3985 pulls a 143 or 173 loaded double stack unassisted Reading 2102 pulls a 100 coal car train unassisted. Up 4014 pulls a meesly 10 car 3bay hopper train Come on union pacific have it pull the "5.5" mile long train as claimed from back then.
I feel yah... Trust me I was fortunate enough to go out to Iowa to see the Bigboy, beautiful machine, and Ed Dickens with his crew are great, but 4014 failed to impress me, thanks to UP.. :-(. @@LibertyRailfan I knew Jeff for a number of years, and have one of the train horns from his personal collection; it was a Christmas gift to me in the early 2000’s. I’m 35 now and I’ll never get rid of it. I’ve been in the cab of this locomotive, long long ago when I went up once to visit him before he got sick. He had an absolute empire in his basement of full sized signals, relays, even an old railroad switch board. He’d pull a knob and a switch would change from green to yellow, or to red. I was a teenager back then, and to this day that’s still one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. He was Incredibly knowledgeable about the RBMN and the Pennsylvania RR both. It's only up to him to say yes/go for it and figure out how to do it. I know fuel and water maybe an issue possibly hauling one or two gondolas full of coal and that water tanker he has would be the trick besides having a backhoe/payloader at some place along the route just to load everything up so some logistics to figure out besides making sure whatever he decides 2102 by itself or both 2102 and 425. Like I said its his railroad and all up to him what he feels is safe, and what his steam power can do. Would be awesome to see!

@@kents.2866 supposedly this is anthracite they are burning, the steam program here on the Reading & Northern seems to be a success so I can only guess the crew must be doing something right, she does burn grey and black when she is working really hard especially fighting a grade "hill", otherwise it's mostly white steam that is coming out of the stack. Hell yeah its so cool to see a steam loco pulling revenue freight gives those of us who were not around back then a chance to see what it must have been like back in the 40s and 50s!
@@PotentialAutist42069 100% Andy Muller Jr President of the Reading & Northern really knows how to show off also run a railroad correctly!
Great video pal!! Love the combination of ground and drone footage going on here and that killer audio.
That’s quite impressive. Hope to get down there this summer, May have to settle for building it virtually though Lol.
This is one of the best Railfan videos I have ever seen. Also RBMN is probably one of the coolest railroads to railfan!
Today, when I can see Union Pacific's 8444, or the 2102, or 759, I rejoice that there are still a few iron horses that can kick their iron hooves in the face of a diesel!"
also r&n needs a vastly bigger turntable lol
To think Reading had 30 of them at one time!
@@1940limited a shame that only 3 of them exist now, 2124, 2102, & 2100 at least 2100 should be back up and running maybe by next year out in Ohio.

Nice to see some steam engines doing some work instead of the diesels ;)
Very nice
Thank you for watching Nate greetings from along the Reading & Northern Railroad in Pennsylvania. This is something just totally unbelievable here what Andy Muller is doing with his railroad. Does the T1 burn anthracite or bituminous coal?
Reading and Northern really went "ever seen a steam locomotive in heavy coal service? Me either let's see what happens"
Thank you for watching The Arctic Gamer greetings from along the Reading & Northern. Well it was well documented of what the T1 4-8-4 could do from the RDG days. Really the Reading & Northern in their early days did do coal hopper moves with the locomotive they know the capabilities of her.

Grest video.🤠

MAN, that was AWESOME!
(At least I think he doesn't.)
We rode one of those NYS&W excursions back in the 90's and compared to the NS steam program which had been dropped a year before it was kind of primitive, but fun just the same. Still, it was a shame to see it go.
I just love that name "Reading Outer Station!" It sounds like it's out in the wilds even though I know it's not.

At 20:33 it’s from test to first mainline assignment pulling a coal train.
Yup, I guess Andy Muller and Tyler Glass figured why not bring those loads down as we know she can do it.
The T-1 #2102 is such a beautiful steam engine. I'm so glad I have an HO scale brass model of the T-1.
This locomotive is as fast as it is strong my dad fired the 21o2 in the 195o's 🤠👍

The engineers don't wave from the trains anymore, not like they did back in 1954 I still get a tear in my eye when I hear an old train in the night.
Thank you for watching Christopher greetings from the Walt Disney World of Railroading the Reading & Northern Railroad which seems to be the most magical railroad in the USA in these modern times. Lol
Well I have to say about the engineers not waving anymore it really depends on what railroad and how the crews are treated.
Best to you my friend chris
2102 looked perfect passing through American Premium Coal Company. That's right where it belongs.
Y dad told me that 1 T1 could do the same job as 2 diesel locomotives🤠👍
thank you for watching @frankbaker9117 yup that's true...
Next month I'll be riding the train I will try my best to ask one of the employees.
people say steam cant haul shit, my question is does she even know there is a train behind her?
Thank you for watching LittlePastelKitten I guess if 2102 pulled 100 cars that were loaded then there possibly might have been a little struggle, but I think Andy Muller and the steam crew have tested her and broken her in right 100 empty cars but then 50 cars with loads she is over 70 years old so I think that they have broken her in right.
And the loaded train was around 4,000 to 6,000 tons. Granted, it was a mostly downhill trip, but she can still haul.
Who the hell said steam can't haul shit? Steam once hauled everything coast to coast! 77 years later 2102 still gets the job done.

Hope your trip works out well, Jwrailv&e... As I do hope that everyone that has paid for a ticket to ride behind 2102 will be able to do so..

Does the T1 burn anthracite or bituminous coal?
I put a link in the description for Wikipedia but she is an Anthracite coal burner en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reading_2102

Atleast Reading & Northern's Andy Muller Jr said lets see what she's "2102" got , ohh these Appalachian - Reading area mountains are nothing!
Красивейший паровоз!👍 Мощность удивляет!💪
Thank you for watching Николай Герцен greetings from along the Reading & Northern Railroad in Pennsylvania. Yes, the Steam power is amazing, this locomotive was technically built in 1945, but really it is a rebuild from Class I10sa "2-8-0" dating back to the year 1925, now it's a T1 4-8-4.
Wish Jeff Seidel was still alive to see it run. He was a good friend and a Signal maintainer for the RBMN.
May this and all positive achievements of the railroads be in honor of Jeff and all of those who aren't with us anymore and would have loved to see this.
I miss him…he was a good guy.
Doing something the UP wont do with the Big Boy
CEO of the Reading & Northern Andy Muller Jr. is not afraid to run his railroad old school style... Running these freight test trains he did it the way it was meant to be done.. I bet with UP or any other railroad they would have just used diesel locomotives to simulate loads for a stress test. Andy Muller Jr. gives everyone the operatunnity to show us this is how its meant to be done!....
The only thing that could top this is is 425 and 2102 double-headed the NRFF
Thank you for watching The Evilstreamer ohh yeah that would be the ultimate topper for Reading & Northern... Trust me many of us railfans have passed around the idea and from what I heard the ultimate railfan for the Reading & Northern Mr. Andy Muller Jr himself I've heard enterained the idea of a 2102 pulled NRFF whole length North Reading Yard to Pittston.
Not a single diesel... Not even for dynamic brakes... Andy must not care about the cost of new brake shoes!
Thank you for watching Bryson yeah Andy really made it old school, no diesel locos! This is like the best train in this day and age of modern railroading I have ever seen!
@@LibertyRailfan Totally agree. She put on quite the show, that exhaust could bust some windows!
@@PowerTrain611 I don't want to see anyone have to face property damage, but it would be pretty awesome to see some windows get busted out that way 🙂
Fireman needs some working on thats for sure.White smoke or your power is choked
According to many others, they say when you see white the loco is running clean, so IDK.
@@LibertyRailfan yep according to UK firemen, little and often was the saying for shoveling coal. If you firing an engine correctly, you shouldn't see too much smoke. But I suppose it depends on what type of coal you are burning.
Everyone loves that thick black smoke though especially for taking those photographs.. Have a great weekend, Kent.
Thanks, you as well.
Love to see a clean-fired steam engine, Too many railfans like black smoke.
Thank you for watching foxtp1 greetings from along the Reading & Northern Railroad in Pennsylvania. Well for that dramatic photograph/scene that Railpace, Trains Mag, and a few others want I wouldn't mind seeing a nice black puff every so often, actually, I did get a puff of black here or there in this video..
You are right though and I agree to have the steam burn clean means it's also burning efficiently as well, it just shows that the steam crew for Reading & Northern really is doing a top-notch operation.
@@LibertyRailfan Doesn't anthracite burn cleaner than bituminous? that's what Lackawanna always advertised on the "Road Of Anthracite."
@@1940limited exactly The Phoebe Snow The Lady in White!
@@LibertyRailfan It seems very few cinders come out of 2102 making me think they're burning anthracite and it's doing what it's supposed to.
@@1940limited I was told by other railfans it's bituminous but they weren't 100% sure so far I haven't gotten a straight answer. I have even attempted to ask the Railroad via the Facebook page but I haven't gotten a response yet on that question, so far they have answered everything else, but I guess they got sidetracked.. I know the locomotive when built down in Philly by Baldwin Locomotive Works I think it was bituminous, but according to Wikipedia, it says Anthracite coal if that is true I guess could have been converted when it was rebuilt as a T1 in the Reading Shops.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reading_2102
2102 is so strong! Pulling 100 coal cars in one train!
Thank you for watching RonnieThePRRLoco3750 AKA RPTLMR greetings from along the Reading & Northern Railroad in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. I've heard stories that back in the day a T1 4-8-4 for Reading would pull 150 loaded car train.
Wow!
