El Raval, the most dangerous neighbourhood in Spain? On what planet. Yeah back in the 70s maybe before they demolished entire central blocks of the barrio and created the big open terrace filed space that is the Rambla del Raval. I lived there when It first moved to Spain 16 years ago, and I have always spent time there. Even now I spend a lot more time there as it is 10 minute walk from my flat in the Eixample Antigua. 10 minutes walk and for sure it’s another world, frenetic, very multicultural - it was always the immigrant area of the old city. A bit dodgy around the edges on occasion maybe but unsafe or dangerous? No way. These people need to go visit my previous abode in Islington in London if they want dangerous levels of violent crime - including an unhealthy annual teenage murder rate. The Raval is full of life, good restaurants, funky bars and loads of friendly residents and visitors alike. It is and has always been among my favourite barrios of this city and likely to remain so.
Just went on to Google maps, street view for ALL these dangerous Neighborhood areas to find that there was one common denominator: all the people on the streets did not look Spanish.
In Spain just now and never felt unsafe among Spanish people. The recent arrivals on the other hand are quite menacing. Three or four fighting-age and fit men loitering with roving eyes looking for prey. Terrible. In Sevilla and Madrid this was most obvious.
My Spanish wife grew up in Carabanchel and her mum and sister still live there and I’ve spent a lot of time there in my 27 years in Madrid, and I can confirm that most of it, especially the area nearest the centre, around Puente de Toledo/Madrid Río park is wonderful and perfectly safe. The dodgy areas are further away from the centre and there is nothing interesting to see for tourists there anyway, but even those areas are not that bad. Very exaggerated! Madrid is an incredibly safe city in general, compared to other European capitals, like London or Paris, and far safer than any US or Latin American city…no guns!
@@inesdelpozo8285 my wife grew up in Marqués de Vadillo, near the old Vicente Calderon Atletico Madrid stadium, sadly no longer there (luxury flats now!), so I know that street and surrounding area well. As you say, perfectly normal safe barrio. The dodgy areas are around 12 de October hospital/Villaverde, but even then I wouldn’t say they are highly dangerous. I’d say most of Carabanchel, which is enormous, is a great place to live, and cheaper than the centre.
McDonald’s menu is the same here in Canada for the most part, we do have Filet-O-Fish, Chicken Snack Wraps and all the burgers. We went to McDonalds in Malaga last year and it felt like home! It’s getting pretty expensive these days in Canada so it’s no longer just a treat!💕🇨🇦
dangerous neighborhoods... compared to parts of California are laughable. Note, work should be done to make those neighborhoods so they don't become like Oakland, California (for example)
Alhambra beers are the best, especially Alhambra Roja. Next one down is Turia from Valencia. Third on my list is Alcazar from Jaen. But that is my taste ;-) I live in 50% York and 50% Barcelona
Regarding Victoria Málaga,Dan Murphy's in Australia has started stocking it,it costs $19 for a six-pack,or $17 when it is a member's special,I don't mind it,it tastes better then some overpriced Aussie beers.
My ex is from the outskirts of Carabanchel. My favourite story of hers is when someone tried to mug her late at night but she recognised him as someone she went to school with. They chatted and when she went to leave he said "don't go that way, go around. There are more guys waiting". Have to say I never had any trouble there but I am 6'4" and 140kg. I actually really liked the area (apart from the parking).
Who would’ve thought! with the new travel regulations in Spain, I’ve been taking such short trips lately that I don't even have time to unpack my suitcase at the hotel Things got really tense when my luggage started charging me rent!
Hi Stuart. Interesting fact about the burger joints creeping into European society. I’ve lived on the Adriatic coast in Italy for the past decade and I must say that Italy has a strong food culture and it would be hard to see it taken over by burger bars, however I also welcome the option to have them for dinners. Here, we have many Italian places to eat, too many to stick a fork at even, so it is good for variety. German style baverian restaurants are starting to be popular too, infact im going for dinner in one tomorrow, funnily enough they offer burgers too.
Hello Stuart Just watched you xx Had our Ladies club meeting. Dance and Dine. Lovely Singer Simon. Some line dancing. After Antonio the owner of Tallias bar Trabuco cooked Paella. Vegetarian and Chicken. It was good xx
I don't disagree with you Stu, I just said, after watching some other RUclipsrs, other countries do have different menu at McDonalds, I wouldn't want it every day, just to go see what is different. Like 7/11's here in the US you can not eat breakfast to dinner hahaha, but Japan Korea and other countries you can. So it would be fun to see what else is offered on menu. But for sure, after watching you, I want to try restaurants there. And can't wait to come to visit Spain.
Okay, so I just saw the comments about McDonald's... I disagree - can't beat a menu del dia here in Spain. Go inland from Gandia, Costa Blanca, to the village of Simat de Valdigna. After visiting the amazing monastery, walk along to the bar/restaurant on the street opposite, and you will find what is known in the USA as a 'Mom and Pop diner'. Whatever the Madre is cooking, that's what you get. A few years ago when eating there, we tried to tip, and they refused it! The 'real ' Spain!
Sorry, i had to pick myself up from the floor laughing at the first article from the OECD. How can Spain be the best performing economic country when it's been given 200 Billion Euros from the EU in the past 5 years ? I suppose if they accept this huge ammount as a form of income then it looks good but only a fool would accept the loans and aid as generated income created by a normal economy. Let's not even mention the high levels of unemployment! What a joke

Good luck finding anyone in Carabanchel who isn't Spanish.

Hi Stu. Greetings from the Costa Blanca. I get you later in the evening. I just want to say your Spanish accent is spot on ! Bien hecho!
Interesting. We stayed in el cabanal in Valencia for a week this year and felt very safe and relaxed there.

Need to send Adventure Elliott with his camera to one of those bad neighborhoods to see what's going on! 🤠
He has already visited most of them in the past!

Wine drinkers are increasing in Australia. I can understand why, grape juice is healthier and the other options and also tastes better.
Aussies are the biggest wine drinkers per capita in the English-speaking world.

Hi Stu! Really enjoy your content. For a great individual Paella, try "Paellitas" - in Madrid. Get one for around €15 - good portions.
I saw report today that a new home build is going on a flood plain. Stupid. Don't they learn xx
Hello Stuart

Bear in mind that the current pension system in Spain pays the same amount as your last payslip. Who would risk losing half of that AND work?

Every tourist walk by The Raval without knowing and it worth a walk arround if you like to see the real Barcelona
