My own personal favourite would be a Vaughan with a hickory shaft. 16 oz for most jobs but 20 oz for framing-type work. So lucky to be able to choose from quality tools aren't we
The Fiskars 20oz is my favourite,, it is actually proven to reduce pain and swelling in prolonged use, so that's good enough for me,, mine will last for the rest of my life without a shadow of a doubt..
Im happy to share that I already bought my hammer last year.december. the estwing 16oz rip claw with lovely blue handle.American made from American steel👍
No bruised fingers though with the magnetic nail starters! Apart from demolition a light weight hammer rules the waves - save up for that Stiletto... Good video well done.
I eventually got both the M-1 and M-4 Martinez hammers. Still have my 20 year old Estwing and 5 year old dewalt but I let the kids use them or if I’m using a hammer in a non traditional way where it might get destroyed I obviously use the less expensive hammers
From the U.S. here everyone tends to start with a Estwing hammer because value for money; however I’ve noticed that overseas people tend to buy the 20oz smooth face bent claw. Here people tend to start with the 20 or 22oz waffle faced straight claw framing hammer and if doing finish work get either a 12 or 16 oz finish hammer (smooth face bent claw). How we solve the nail pulling issues with a straight claw varies. If the person is walking around with their tool belt they use a cats paw or flat bar. You can also use a scrap piece of wood for leverage. If you have someone on the ground tasked to de-nail they tend to have a super bar/wonder bar, cats paw and crow bar to cover all nail types or funky nails. I went to the dewalt 20oz because the balance was better than the Estwing. The side nail puller is nice but not the best side puller design
@@Isaacbuildsthings, waffle stops it slipping off the nail. Does mar in finish applications though. But that’s why we have a two hammer solution. But for framing, concrete forms, Demolition etc the 20-22oz waffle faced framing hammer is where it’s at.
The best one ive ever used in my close to 50 years of building is the stilleto titanium hammer, its an expensive but well worth the money has been thru the ringer and you can’t break it
Lost track of my Estwing 28 oz. For 20 years after we got a Bostich N80C. Who needs a huge framing hammer when we have pneumatic tools? I notice the fastest hammer was the lightest. My everyday hammer is a 13 oz. Curved claw Plumb. Long swing gives large momentum. I have Granfors pry bars for deconstruction
Yeah the lighter one swings quicker but less momentum behind it so it’s still a bit slower. I’m still using the 12oz and loving it. Definitely doesn’t quite hold up to a heavier hammer in certain circumstances like smacking pegs or Waratahs in quickly but that’s when I should be getting out the sledgehammer!
I use for framing and driving huge nails in a 23oz Voughan California Framer with the hatchethandle 18" handle great hammer costs me around 60€ on Amazon and that's a amazing hammer ! I allso got a 20oz straight claw estwing and I like it very much
The magnet thing would be good for a situation where you have to pldrive in a nail in a hard to reach place _ up.high or way off to the side _ where it might be dangerous to climb up another step on the ladder _ or saving time not having to climb down a ladder to move it over climb up again then drive-the nail in
Yea mate I thought the magnet nail starter was a gimmick but apparently it’s really good for nailing above your head and down low I’ve got some framing jobs coming up I’ll let you know how it goes
Refreshing video, thanks for the comparison and stating your favorite. Did you ever get the Stilletto? Some say they prefer the 12 oz DeWalt over it. Would trust your opinion more though.
@@Isaacbuildsthings yes sir, I favor the Estwing, although I know other brands are reputable, i feel as if they're trying to feed us more Chinese products. I love DeWalt but never for a hammer lol
Yeah can’t really go wrong with the estwing! I actually just got a new stiletto hammer which I’ve been wanting for a while so will hopefully have a new video for that coming soon.

I just do stuff around the house as it comes up, and just recently bought the 12oz DeWalt for my toolbox-glad to see it will be plenty good
Great! Yeah sounds like the perfect hammer for your situation!
I finished building my house with the 20 oz DeWalt, perfect hammer

Nice. Good to know!
That’s kind of weird ngl the interchangeable head is supposed to defeat the purpose of buying another hammer

Interesting! The waffle face isn’t super popular here in nz As far as I know!

Momentum is mass times velocity. If your cleaning a roof deck of nails on a tear-off a light curve claw is the way to go. Yank! Yank! Yank!

I agree. Super nice for duplex nails when making concrete forms. Less bending
