I am from Greece, grew up in one of the many small islands and my opinion about cruises is, stay away. If you want to explore Greece or Italy just visit the countries and travel around. It's going to be about the same cost as a cruise, and you also immerse yourself in the actual culture, with a cruise you are not just visiting with thousands of other tourists for 5 hours, that really strains small towns and really doesn't help them put their best foot forward.

you will never hear a Greek person call the country next to as North Macedonia.. we call it Skopia. its actually very insulting to the greeks to hear that name. about the food you need to know that lamb its not so common meat as u americans think..we eat it but the majority eats it 5-6 times a year. common meat its pork and beef.. if u want to have greek food be ready to have ALOT vegetables..many dishes are without meat.

Advice. Do not try Greek food outside of Greece, certainly not in the States it sucks. The ingredients are not the same not even the recipes. You want a Greek food? Visit Greece or just don't try it anywhere else.

That's because the animals in the mountains eat alot of local herbs and at the same time on mountains near the sea the moisture forming over them contains salt which makes the meat most tasty. For example my mom was born to the Ionian island of Keffalonia and the lamps or goats on a certain area after they get slaughtered they shouldn't be salted before they are cooked. Otherwise they end up so salty that it's useless. So they are ready for consumption. In general the red meat produced on the whole island isn't much treated with lots of salt rather little or even none.

Love from Athens and great reaction. The island you try to remember is Santorini. It's beautiful and you have to visit it atleast once, but the island I would recommend for a trip with more stuff to see (not that you can't visit both) is the island of Crete. The biggest island in Greece with a ton of history and its own unique culture.
And just to correct you on something, the greek empire was not a thing. Before Alexander the Great and his father, Greece was made up of many independent city States (Like Athens, Sparta, Corinth etc.) Which while they shared some culture and gods were very often in disputes and wars with one another. So a better term to refer to that Era is the Greek (or as I prefer Hellenic) Civilization.

One comment on the video by Geography now. The dead are buried in public cemeteries and after a 3 year period if they are found not to have been absorbed then they are left for a couple of years more or until they do. But it's an option to buy a family grave that all the members of a family rest till the last member dies. Then again the procedure I described above is followed till they establish that even the last body has been absorbed. Those on ones that were exhumed and washed with vinegar where victims of a certain vengeance act during the WWII on the village of Kalavryta where hundrends of people were executed by the German Nazis as they discovered that this particular village was helping Greek resistance fighters on their guerilla warfare against the Nazi occupiers. It's not the only village that this happened but on this village they executed even whole families and they tried to burn also a school. Many more villages fell of victims of that brutal behaviour like Kandanos in Crete in Distomo in Central Greece near mountain Parnassus like Kommeno near Preveza city and many more. Those who martyred there was decided by their younger ones to be exhumed and their bones to be cleaned and kept on special display for the world to witness the atrocities made by Germans eternally.

When something belongs to your country you just don't give it because oh we have many islands so lets give some because neighbours want it. Greece sacrifice thousands of lives for independence from ottoman empire it is not let them have it, what if next year they want more etc.

However, I tried Greek food in the States and it was horrible and with super limited options.

@@BoringReviews idk where u got that information but that's just bs, everyone with a basic history knowledge knows that a greek empire never existed.
Historians refer to Ancient Greece as a civilization. That's because it was never an empire. It was never a country. (Greece did not become an independent country until modern times, in 1821, or less than 200 years ago.)
Everybody here in europe knows that greeks had multiple city-state like sparta and athens that were different and for sure not under a greek empire.

Ancient Greece had one language and culture but was not unified until 337 BC, when Macedonia defeated Athens and Thebes. That marked the end of the Classical period and the start of the Hellenistic period Meaning Greek..
