IT should be noted that standing bhopping has it's place, though the speed gain from a crouched bhop is always going to be faster if executed well. Crouched bhopping is also much better for slopes, and slides such as the Dark Carnival Stage 1 swamp entrance, though standing bhopping due to it's lack of speed loss when failing, is much better for fleeing, and saving teammates

I remember watching this video like 2 years ago when I first got a pc. I thought I could never get this down but after like 100 hours of just playing the game on custom maps and just practicing and failing I can do it pretty consistently. Just takes time and I guess a decent pc.
Gear Wolfe Then you're not jumping perfectly. You technically don't even need to turn left and right if you're only doing a single jump. Strafing just lets you gain speed faster.
You aren't jumping perfectly then. A good way to practice standing Bhop and knowing if you jumped too late would be to hold the "Walk" key, which is default bound to "Shift". If you jump too early, you don't jump. If you jump too late, you lose all momentum. What I would do if I were you is to not even try the air-strafing portion yet. Just run forward, run as fast as you are allowed, jump, in mid-air hold "Walk", and try to get a jump chain going on like that. If you lose all velocity, then you jumped too late. Practice this a little while until you get the timing down. The jumping is there to conserve velocity/momentum/speed. The air-strafing is what gains the speed. The only time jumping gains velocity is when you hit the perfectly timed jump going down a hill. When you land on a slope, the game adds momentum toward the bottom of the slope, and it depends on your vertical downward velocity. The faster you fallen onto the slope, the more velocity is added horizontally.
I remember back when I was a scrub I dreamed of bhopping and wrecking as a tank with those hops. Fast forward to now, bhopping for me is easier than breathing. It really takes time and practice, but once you get it, you'll be trying to bhop on every new game you get haha.
