    Today I am PO 22 days Tummy Tuck....Im 59 and I have had a way better than expected experience! My pain was minimal and I began walking the 1st day and it has helped tremendously in the healing process. Never did sleep in a recliner either. Just had a wedge for my upper body and pillows here and there. I slept like a rock so snug and secure. Haven't had to take the nerve pain killers at all. My advise walk and walk alot if you want to heal and feel better fast.

    I was sent home with a compression garment , then after my one week follow up appointment I was given an even tighter compression garment. I was informed it's used to help with swelling and to help my body absorb extra fluid. Maybe there should be evidence based practice on this issue to achieve patient safety? I'm confused now it makes total sense in regards to low blood supply amd tissue necrosis. Nervous now

    • @DrWilliamMiami
      @DrWilliamMiami  6 месяцев назад +1

      There is a lot of misinformation out there on compression and recovery and there are no studies to fall back on. There is however, good scientific evidence about the lymphatic system and fibrosis which I have used along with my experience to come up with my Ogee Recovery Protocol. I am trying to get an evidenced based, logical approach to recovery.

    So, after this stellar presentation, and watching chilling surgeries gone wrong on a frigging documentary, what I'm hearing is patients have responsibilities too for aftercare. Shattered my wrist skiing, and the surgery eas the easiest part. Regab? Hard work! Same with tummy tuck--adjusting for type of surgery--you have certain tasks to perform to enhance healing, avoid complications and recover. Exercise makes sense. Wonder if surgeons -*-tell-*- patients, like verbally, instructions. Written instructions are skimmed if read at all. There tedious and boring, but it seems, very important. So while there are terrible plastic surgeons, like that guy in Mexico, patients must be responsible too. This fact never occurred to me on such an important level. I feel better now about getting one. The liposuction scares me. My waist is pretty good; maybe I don't need it...? So-- if this guy is this good, he's expensive. Cutting costs on major surgery isn't good. Another year of saving...I think I'm in. Thank you, so much doctor. Maybe I can be a guinea pig, or training patient. Haha!

    Do you have to have drains? Is glue good?

    • @DrWilliamMiami
      @DrWilliamMiami  8 месяцев назад

      There are surgeons who don't use drains. It became popular to stop using drains but I think a lot of surgeons have gone back to using drains so we get the fluid out. I personally use drains but if you don't want a drain you should be able to find someone who performs a drainless tummy tuck.

    • @hearnbrowne4404
      @hearnbrowne4404 5 месяцев назад

      No reason to be scared of the drains. They were no issue and it was actually comforting to see the fluid leave the body. Sometimes nurses or Drs forget to take the lid of the drain before removal. I was told that hurts. Both mine were removed and I didn't feel a thing (lids were off).

      It is normal for you. Everyone takes a little longer to be able to walk upright after a tummy tuck. I always tell my patients in your situation not to worry about a specific day for standing straight. Instead I tell them to listen to their body and follow what it is telling you. It will let you know when it is safe to stand straight. I have never had anyone hunched over forever!!

    I’m confused several plastic surgeons says to where a faja after surgery

    • @DrWilliamMiami
      @DrWilliamMiami  9 месяцев назад +1

      Keep in mind we are all different in our advice. I just share my recovery protocols. I don't want my patients to be in a faja immediately after surgery because I worry that the pressure of the faja, or a compression board, will injure the blood supply and create dead tissue in the freshly performed tummy tuck. You have to remember that the blood supply to the skin in the abdomen after a tummy tuck has been weakened.
