The point you bring up around 32:30 about the difference in perspective and final product of instrumentation vs. programming is something I think about all the time. I play all of my parts in real time, even for IDM, glitch, and breakbeat style drums and percussion. I play all my synth parts, including any arpeggios since I'm a pianist. It's always so weird because I look for tutorials on glitch/IDM/techno etc. and I have to think "okay, how can I find a way to get those sounds in a playable instrument form?" haha. I'm a big fan of Aphex Twin and that tracker style, linear breakbeat sound but I've found ways to do it my own way acrually finger drumming my patterns in. Sometimes quantized and more frequently not. I love watching these sorts of videos because it inspires me to make music in new ways.
Around 41:30 what DNcrystal said about using what you have and not getting distracted by this or that feature really hits home for me! I was on a vicious cycle of trying to find the perfect gear and finally decided to commit to the MPC even though it wasn't "perfect" and it has been REALLY rewarding. I could go on forever on this haha, but I just really relate to that whole sentiment.
Listening in my car rn waiting for my wife getting surgery. Sounds are banging. Production is sweet. Highs are high Lows are lows and everything is is clear and only distorted when it’s supposed to be.
This is SO inspiring that I can’t get through the video, as I keep having to go and make music based on these sounds and ideas, mindset. My idea of perfect content (youtube doesn’t have a category for ‘inspiring’ in its surveys, alas!)
If someone asks me what groovebox I would recommend, I would say Digitakt II in the first place. IMHO the most versatile machine with the best performance/price ratio. 👍
I really enjoyed this video man! Very nice and interesting artist, great music and very informative. Never heard of DNcrystal before but his tracks sound amazing!! The only downside of it is that after watching this video all my music sounds like shit haha
Hey Matthew, thanks for this inspiring video. One question came up. You guys talked about “Kill Switches”. I didn’t quite understand that. How you use it for transitions? Many thanks in advance. Greetz from Hamburg/Ger Lars
Sick old school jungle! Did not expect that for sure. Maybe I'm biased coming from mixing DnB in a DJ context but I wouldn't call these transitions seamless at all. Yes, I do realize that live sets have their own sets of challenges compared to mixing on DJ decks but still - at an actual DnB rave I'd go "wtf" if I hear a transition that abrupt.
Yeah totally, I run into that question alot when writing. I imagine the tracks more a single songs in a setlist like a band as opposed to curating a vibe that weaves in and out, if that makes sense. I would def not do this in an actual dj set haha.
I watched the stream live. That guest is seriously the best. So many useful tips and such a musical approach. But I’ve got a question… I remember he mentioned where he got the colored encoder caps from. Unfortunately, I didn’t write it down. Does anyone know the part where he says it, or where they’re from? Thanks a lot!!!! You both are a great combo
Gone are the days where we get updates and tutorials for the Digitone 1 and Digitakt 1... It's like we just get to learn a piece of a gear and then a company makes a new piece of gear that can do everything the previous one can do quicker and easier and better. In this way, it feels difficult to keep up with the pace of technology. If you can sprinkle in a tutorial as you have been throughout the years for the OG Digis, that'd be awesome.
Who cares, if you are fine to use the old. Limitations are Gold.....or sell the old and add some for the new one... i will keep the one... and if there is an urgent need, only then I will change..
What I would like to know: Was the transition made by a remixed pattern which he put on a single track as a loop? (And then actiived with the fill function)
Essentially! Yeah I just manually resampled, player with the filter while recording, then threw it on a track with killtrigs on the tracks I wanted to mute

Yeah, I know what you mean, it’s always changing. I don’t plan on making tutorials on the old boxes but much of what I do will work on both

damn, this is good
Im blown away by DTII. Waaay better than the syntakt. I cant leave it alone since I got it

@@dncrystal Thanks man, much appreciated!!!
Where did you get these knobs?
Pavel - xpowers designs! Lots of good stuff
@@dncrystalthank you! 🎉
Can you use the DT2 arp to control external gear yet?
nope
The Digitakt II doesn't feature an Arp, the Digitone and Digitone II do though.
I wanna hear drumming with Darth Vaders lightsabers!
Ahh, that's an idea to keep in mind.
These songs are very UK garage inspired.
My Dt2 crashed harder yesterday, was never heppened at yours?
Mine has crashed
that vocal sample is not in time, so bothering
I have to het oxi one
Paul wall version of you
Hahahahahahha
the video would go viral if thumbnail of Digitakt 2 would be with Teenage Engineering colours
(although the new colors from Sweden are black&white)
Give me the right money hacker
Im sorry ive had too much! Im sorry. Me and my play plus is shit
