Yeah I had so much nostalgia memories when I first played cod 4 on the Xbox 360. This game really revolutionized the franchise. 2007 was the best year of gaming.
Glad you made this video, I played CoD4 a ton and even started on CoD2. Played all on PC and the severs were so strong back then 2005-2007. I knew at this time CoD had the secret sauce that would elevate their game for the next decade.
Probably the most nostalgic COD campaign for me. I didn't play much multiplayer and I didn't even play the campaign until around 6 years ago, but it had a brilliant campaign. Before COD just ditched all subtlety and went balls to the walls with crazy action setpieces, advanced movement, and wild concepts like what's in the Black Ops games with mind control and memory manipulation and shit. Not to knock any of those games for that stuff. It's a simpler game from a much simpler time in gaming, and it absolutely holds up.
COD 4 was one fo the few masterpieces to ever actually capture the "perfect" link between a campaign and multiplayer, and I don't think that any other game has captured it since. Halo tried to replicate it with reach and sword base level is probably the closest it gets.
I like how the game that revolutionized the modern fps genre has the number 4 in the title, like the og Resident Evil 4 having the number 4 in the title and popularized the third person shooter genre with that over the shoulder camera.
This game is flawless imo. Perfect maps with subtle advantages if you found them. Awesome music, especially the main menu. Strong but few kill streaks. Plenty of weapons with great sound, feel and recoil that wasn't negligible or over done. A decent progression system. It is perfect. So is bad company 2.
cod4 was my first real game I played a ton. It really spoiled me and set my expectations high for what a good game should be, especially when compared to the current state of gaming.
Best maps in the whole franchise and the guns are top 3 the mp5 m40a3 acog m16 etc and the maps were just a masterpiece overgrown crash wetwork shipment backlot
The thing I miss about old CoD campaigns is that they had themes and meaning about what was going on. Even if they weren't super complex or deep, they still had *something* to say. They usually had themes about how wars and conflicts shape the world we live in. Like, the OG MW2 showed how far a general would go to keep pride in his country and military power. The two perspectives between Task Force and the Rangers showed how much one sides actions affected the other, and how much a Russian invasion would bolster the resolve of the American people to fight back and be strong (playing into Shephard's plans). It really plays into a form of toxic patriotism. CoD 4 is mostly about the harsh reality of Western intervention in complex Eastern conflicts. World at War, had themes about the grittiness and grey morality of WW2, about how war and revenge doesn't necessarily justify murder and senseless slaughter. The new MW2 doesn't really have themes beyond "wow omg Ghost is so cool"
COD 4 Modern Warfare symbolized the War on Terror. The regime change, the threat of terrorism, foreign despots siezing power, radical groups getting their hands on powerful weapons. It had the Bush era all over it.
This came out when I was a junior in college.. and up until then, it was just halo. But then this “more realistic” online game came out, and the progression system hooked people for a lifetime. It just blew people away. I went through 2 red rings of death playing this game. Haha. The domination game mode was pretty novel at the time.. it let people focus on objective gameplay instead of just killing.. when really the only popular fps game modes at the time was capture the flag and death matches
7:47 "the lack of player choice" All Ghillied Up is one of the best missions in an fps game all about player choice. Classic only ever played halo growing up take. You also go on to say "Nothing revolutionary" whilst it is probably THE most revolutionary FPS game since doom.

Game was 🔥 when it came out. I feel like I didn’t play it enough though since halo 3 came out at the same time
I switched back and forth, but most my cod 4 playtime actually came the following year after waw came out because I didn't pick that one up haha
@@Arrrash lol yeah I think I borrowed world at war from a friend to beat the campaign, played like 3 mp matches and gave it back
“50 thousand people used to live here. Now it’s a ghost town.” The nostalgia!!

Simplicity is a bliss sometimes. The progression wasn't too egregious, compared to today's CoD that acts like a MMO RPG.
This video makes me want to watch Cod4 pro montages

Thank you jason and vince, the master minds behind this, and the devs the remaining performers of this game.

Not sure if I've played this one yet.... But sounds like I gotta play it! Lol
for sure! mp won't be quite the same experience getting into it today, but still worth a play
It's unfortunate this video has as little views as it does. I can see the effort you put into it. Nice work.
Thanks dude, I was really bummed how badly it did, but we keep going!
Brings back mid teenage memories, SnD was incredible!
