    Great review, your lovely calming voice… you would be a good book reader for blind people, not done many miles on my GT yet as got a building project at home, also they have started throwing the salt on the roads which is not good, however my brother Chris ride his all year and has protected it with ACF

      Thanks Frank, unfortunately this bike was stolen in August of 2022 but I replaced it another Tiger 900 shortly after.
      Hopefully I'll be able to do 10,000 mile review on this one.

    Nice review. I’ve had my 900 GTPro for about 2 years, ridden it around a fair bit of Australia. Great in all conditions (haven’t seen snow 😆) and just love it.

      I'll be taking mine on 2500 or mile trip next week and then 1000 mile trip in August. The Tiger 900s and GT Pros specifically are underrated.

    I've put 4000km on my Tiger since I picked it up in Dec 22. I love everything about it except the heat coming out of those radiator vents. I'm only 175cm so my knees are not right up in the vent but on a 35°C day it's unbearable.
    The engine guard is effective as I found out when I dumped it coming out of a causeway. The weight is very good too, even with a very sore back from the accident along with the usual old man ailments I was able to get it shiny side up without a problem.

      I put these on my 2021 Tiger 900 and they helped quite a bit. I redid them with some heavy duty velcro for the 2023 Tiger. Here is the link to the first time I made them. Give it try if you don't like like all you have to do is pull it off.

    Nice review. Im on my second Tiger now. I started with a 2005 955i and currently own a 2017 1200 Xrx with 20K on the clock. Original tires on the 1200 only lasted 6700 miles. The front tire was toast, while the rear probably had a thousand miles left. I changed both at the same time and went with the Michelin Pilot Road 5’s. Great tires in my opinion and they still have some life left in them after more than 13k miles! I have already ordered new Michelins to replace these when the time comes. I highly recommend them. Ride safe!

      I've heard a few people now echo your opinion on tne Road 5s. I had a 1999 Tiger 955i and a 2008 Tiger 1050.

    I bought a Tiger 900 GT Pro in November 2021 in Los Angeles and after the break in period, I crossed the continent that winter. Got snowed on in Florida, lol. The chain became over stretched within the first 600 miles. The chain developed rust almost as soon as I drove it off the dealer's lot. Triumph roadside service was worse than worthless. The silly girl who answered the phone would not provide any service without the VIN number but could not tell me where to find the VIN number while I was broke down in the dark. VERY FRUSTRATING! At about 10,000 miles the engine developed a slow oil leak which I have not yet been able to track down. The left fog light burned out before that. The head light on this motorcycle for night riding absolutely sucks. It is so bad it feels almost suicidal riding at night. There has been a constant vibration and death wobble issue since day one. I do not regret buying this bike. It is a load of fun to ride, but I expected better more reliable service. No one from the customer service ever called back. Also, I dislike that you have to buy special equipment and pay for an app just to reset the service interval. Seems like something that simple and necessary should be a menu item on your display screen. The speedometer reads 5 miles faster than actual speed at anything above 45mph. I also discovered that it is electronically limited to 120mph. I don't really have a problem with that as I seldom exceed 110 mph (that's 104 to 107 mph as measured by google maps and TOMTOM GPS). I think that should be disclosed prior to purchase.
    As an aside: Northern Arkansas and southern Missouri have some of the best motorcycle roads in the world. Seldom any traffic, lots of twisties and enough straightaways to bump it up to 100 (95mph) real quick. Plus that - absolutely beautiful scenery and nice people wherever you stop, not that I do that very much.

      Unfortunately my 2021 Tiger was stolen in August after a week long ride and I had just 10,000 miles on it. Funny the differences, I took mine riding two up for a week and 1800 miles, then 2500 miles in a week and my last one was 1000 miles in 5 days and only adjusted my chain once during all three of those trips.
      I will say to stock OEM tires are at best okay and found the Michelin Road 6s made a huge difference. Mine was oil tight. I'm curious about your comment on the lights ar night. I don't ride much at night but the one ride I did a video the low beam with fog lights was pretty good up to 70 mph and 75 mph with high beam on a dark two lane road.
      I have since bought a 2023 Tiger GT Pro and found it the same as the 2021 but I only 600 miles on it. I ride my bikes up in Idaho in the winter and have not any corrison showing up but I do rinse the bikes after riding on salted roads.
      I've checked speedometers of both Tigers against the GPS and agree they read about 5 mph fast, but only bike I've had one bike in the last 20 years that didn't read 3 to 5 mph fast.
      I haven't tried or remember trying to go 120+ mph on either Tiger. Usually what all the bike companies do nowadays with ride by wire bikes is program the ECU to limit the throttle bodies opening in 6th gear at certain RPMs to 75% in my Thruxton R case which does limit the top speed.
      I did put a 17T front sprocket on my 2021 Tiger when cut the cruising rpm about 300 rpm at 75 mph. I'll probably do that with my 2023 also and may put a smaller back sprocket on as well because the stock 16/50 is pretty low.
      As far as I know the dealership for most brands for the last couple of years has had to reset the maintenance light. My dealership does that free of charge.
      I'll be doing updates on my 2023 as I put more miles on it. Good luck.

    Nice review!! I think I'd be happy with the Rally Pro. Maybe this spring I'll get shopping. I tried the KTM 890 and liked everything but that loud orange. I felt illegal to be on the road with such a off road oriented bike. I also rode the BMW GS850 and was only impressed by their TFT screen. Biggest dislike was it's power felt fair at best to me. I haven't ridden the 900 yet but it sits well for me at 5'9" and is probably the most comfortable of the top 5.

    So far: 17500 km of happiness with my Tiger 900 GT. If you plan to ride gravel & forest roads, but if you still wanna keep very sticky tires for asphalted roads, i strongly recommend you Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR. I love them. Great tires for 70% street (dry or wet; sticky like sport tires) / 30% trail (gravel & dry forest roads). The only con of those tires is that they are not very good for sand or mud.

    I expect to keep my 900 GT for some time. In the 2 short rides taken on it so far (250 miles) I am very impressed with how effortlessly it carves through the twisties. My Moto Guzzi Griso is probably going up for sale. Have to give some serious thought about that for the spring.

    Planning on doing some long term, two-up touring on the 900 RP. When you travelled with your wife were you camping or staying at hotels? With that in mind, how do you think it'll perform with luggage, camping gear, and a second person?

      Johnny we did not camp we stayed in motels, we enjoy the hot showers and soft beds. We had the bike pretty well loaded with all three bags mostly full, with rain suits on top of the saddlebags and I had a small tank bag.
      The bike did very pulling low even in higher gears on tight roads. The only difference I noticed was on passing cars when the distance was tight I felt more comfortable going down to gears to get around quickly.
      If you use the shift assist the passenger will never bang your helmet. When you come off of cruise control it helps to give a tiny bit of throttle to keep the passenger from coming forward because it can be a little abrupt.
      My wife really enjoyed the flat heated seat with the nice grab handles and the rear top bag to lean against.

    I’m picking one up in the spring. I’ve been away from motorcycles for 40 years + busy mountain biking in Idaho. I’ve come to the sad realization I’m just not as durable a I used to be. My wife tells me if I injure myself one more time she’s leaving. I live in central Idaho where the maintained forest service roads are 80 to 90 percent of what’s available. I’m like you in the respect that I don’t need high performance dirt capabilities. I just want to explore. Check out the reviews on the Dunlop Trail Max Missions. They almost sound too good to be true.

      Hey Bob I'll check out those tires I think I'm good for a few months. Sounds like your wife is not exactly doing cartwheels about picking a motorcycle. You said you have been away from motorcycles for 40 years..my recommendation is take a motorcycle safety course or two to help brush up and maybe help your wife to know your doing your part towards safely riding.
      Get down to Boise give me a shout nd I'll meet you at the Triumph shop and make introductions. They have a safety training across the parking lot.

      @@flatcapcaferacer That makes a lot of sense. I just had a 74 Ducati 750 Sport restored that I bought new. Just went up to Galena Lodge and back and it certainly made me feel like an old fart. We'll see how the winter goes and when spring comes. I'll be in touch. Are you in the house area?

      😄😄 Well they did tick off all lot of other items to be fair. You know on my 2nd Harley the Harley dealer drained the oil but forgot to replace it then denied it when the bike locked up a few miles down the road...it was my 500 mile service. So I'm good.

    Great insights. I’m trying to decide between the triumph 900 like yours & the bmw f850 adventure. I’m 6’2 @ 220 lbs. I ride on dirt ski trails when snow melts around Lake Tahoe. Thoughts or recommendations welcome.

      I believe one of my Bonneville team last year had an F850, I'll let him give you his opinion of the F850. I'm not sure how rough ski trails get but the Tiger 900 Rally might be a better choice. Your size will be an advantage on either of bikes you mentioned.
      I think the Tiger 900 GT would at least need some 50/50 tires for most off road rides.

      Jeff... that would be me with the F 850 GSA - I only have 8,500 miles on it... But one trip was a little over 6,000 miles long. The bike is just amazing on long trips. 6 gallon tank on the GSA... I could out range (and out run) the 4 Gold Wings that were in that trip with me...
      Also, I have the aluminum side cases, and those things can swallow everything that is needed. That 6,000+ mile trip took 13 days and I had everything in those cases for camping, eating, clothes, tools, etc...
      My biggest complaint is how top heavy it is... and the reason I am getting rid of it. It also does not help that I am 5' 6-1/2" and shrinking... I am just too short for this bike. A better option would have been the 1200 with the lower center of gravity... but too late for me now. Decided I would go with a Gold Wing instead.
      Wife wants me to keep it and add the Gold Wing. But I know that it will just sit in the garage unused. It is heavy... not a bike I look at and think, "oh ! I think I will hop on it and just go for a short pleasure ride"... nope... for its purpose (long trips) it is the best bike I have had. It just soaks miles without making me sore when I get there...
      You are 6'2"... you will not have the issues I had with mine. You are going to love that ride... Still, I think the Triumph 900 would be an even easier bike to ride over the BMW 850 GS... Given what I know now, that would be my choice.

    Gary. I know this is your first Tiger but I think it’s the same as the new one. I did about 125 miles today and my butt and inner inseam was really hurting. Do you have any experience with the comfort seat or the Corbin?

      I've have and had several Corbin seats and I'm impressed with their comfort but not their service. I have not found any stock seat comfortable for me all day. I use a airhawk and alternate with gel seat cushion and then back to the stock seat om my Tigers. I'll ask Mr. Bill to comment on his aftermarket seat on his Tiger in a future video Mark.
      I've had Corbin on a Sportster, 900 Thunderbird, BMW K75S and my Thruxton R. I've found alternating stock seat, airhawk, gel cushion works well for me on the Tiger.

    Nice, fair review of the Tiger 900 GT Pro. This bike is still on my list of candidates for my next bike, but the cost of the 12K service gives me pause. In Jan. 2020, my dealer quoted me $1900 for the 12K service (36,000 on the odometer) on my then 8 year old Tiger 800. Valve checks on the 900 should be just as time-consuming as the 800, so I would expect similar or worse cost on the 900. Looking forward to your report on your 12K service cost. Also looking forward to your dirt experience on the 900.

      What a fantastic summary of your first year with the 900. Pretty much sums up my first nine months and 3200 uk miles. I have added most of the accessories you have apart from the crash guards .(fingers crossed). I do find the heated grip switch a bit fiddly and the grips don't get as hot as on my old fjr1300. However I did an 80 mile ride this morning on various types of road and it handled them well. Still has some get up and go without having to rev the guts out of it in every gear. The low centre of gravity and great centre stand are real improvements. Thanks again for your initial impressions a year ago, which initiated my thoughts of upgrading from my 800.

      Thanks for the cost realities. I'm leaning towards the Honda Africa Twin anyways (as my next bike), but it helps to confirm my choice. Two days ago my mechanic told me how long it takes Triumph parts to arrive (here in Florida), and that was a deal-breaker in itself.

      @@craigfinnegan8534 Parts across the board are being delayed. Triumph generally have the routine parts on the shelf. I passed on the AfricanTwin because of the seat height and higher center of gravity. The other piece was the welds breaking loose in the Africa Twin clogging the fuel system ...which has been recalled, hopefully they have that fixed by now.

    Tyres. I fitted Dunlop Mutants. 110/80 front and it’s radial, 150/70 rear. The 110/80 is an optimal fit for the 2.5 rim as is the non radial OEM 100/90.

      Since I spend about 100 percent on road the Michelin Road 6s were my choice, but about two months later the bike was stolen.
      I replaced it with a 2023 Tiger GT Pro.

      @@flatcapcaferacer Yes, mine’s a GT Pro too. I spend most of my time on road. Check out the Mutants though as they are a fantastic tyre for our bikes, with some gravel Road ability. The thing I like most about them are the tarmac backroads ability. The best all round tyre I’ve had in the last 53 riding years and the last 53 motorcycles. You’ll have to check your Dunlop site in the US for the sizes. We get them fine in UK. I had Road 5s before but much prefer the Mutants.

      @@flatcapcaferacer I found the stock OEM Metzler Tourance Next being non radial with that 100/90 aspect ratio tramlines badly with any longitudinal grooves in the road. Most unsettling. Using the 19 inch radial 110/80 has cured that. The Mutants have better wet weather performance than the Michelins from quantified tests. Regardless, whatever you choose has to be better than the tramlining OEM. It’s not that they are bad tyres but that part really bothered me. Now on the radial Mutants or indeed any other 110/80 radial road biased tyre I’m much happier and more confident with the handling. I changed tyres after 1,500 miles. I never skimp on tyres, not after all this time when two little black contact patches can be all there is between safety and oblivion, so I said to hek with the cost.
      One tip, as we have tyre pressure monitoring make sure whoever changes your tyres understands them as the sensors are expensive if the fitter doesn’t know about them. I just got my Triumph dealer to do the swap.

      @@JohnRushworth I agree on stock OEM Metzler's. I just spent a couple thousand dollars on tires for the bikes stolen so my budget is a little depleted. I won't push the OEMs and I'll be fine

    Q: Would the Tiger 900 be okay as a first bike?
    I do understand that it's a big bike. But from what I've seen, I don't think I'm a "typical" beginner.
    I'm 57. 6'1" and quite steady and safe operating vehicles. In fact, I've had a commercial DL since I was 19 and for the past 18 years have been employed as a Transit bus driver.
    I have some friends at work that go riding together and I'd like to join them. They all have large cruiser type bikes and ride on road. But I enjoy fishing and hunting and frequent logging and fsr roads.
    Obviously I could start out on a smaller bike such as a Honda CB500X or Husqvarna Svartpilen 401.
    Then have the hassle of selling it off after outgrowing it in a couple months and then getting the Tiger.
    I'd rather just go the "one and done" route if possible.
    I have my riding course booked for the end of next month, then I'll be looking for a bike after that. A 900 would definitely keep up to the big cruisers on road. It could also take me exploring many many KM's of logging roads. I live in B.C. Canada so no shortage of those.
    What do you think? Too ambitious? Or can be done safely?
    I'm aware the CB500X can meet my requirements. At first. But I also know I will eventually want the extra tech, power and capability of the Tiger that the Honda lacks.

      At first blush I'd say not ideal beginner bike. The Honda CB500X would be a great bike first bike.
      Now let's explore what else you mentioned. You mentioned 57 which isn't too old to start if you combine that with the riders course you also mentioned.
      Your height would be an advantage for the Tiger especially off road and the Tiger 900 has a lot of more leg room than the Honda 500 for sure.
      Your danger areas won't be solo street riding as much as riding with your buddies. Group rides two or more for new riders more often not end badly. Just getting to know how they move, proper distancing and most importantly you riding your own pace is critical.
      The Tiger 900 GT Pro is probably 90/10 street oriented and would do nicely on hard packed dirt or gravel roads.
      The Tiger 900 Rally Pro is more capable on some tougher off roads.
      I think either bikes could manage off roads okay but your lack of experience as a rider and particularly off road might result in some damage to the bike as you get better.
      If I was your brother I'd say get a used bike that has 60 horsepower and knock about for a year or so on and off road sell it for about what you paid for it. That year will dial you into the right bike and sharpen your skills.

      Curious to know what you got . Definitely don’t get the tiger as a first bike. This is not the area to go for “one and done “ . You wanna be alive and healthy for your future rides.

    I also have the Tiger 900 GT Pro, and the only thing that is not to my liking is that at a speed between 31 and 43 miles (50 to 70km), I have noticed as if it gave small bounces, as if you were going on a highway. with small potholes, at less speed and more, it is not noticeable, have you been able to notice that sensation?, for the rest, the bike is perfect.
    If you could tell me how you have configured the front suspensions?
    How many clicks have you been starting everything on the right, as the manual indicates, placed on the right and how many on the left?

      I have not noticed anything unusual at any speeds but the next time I'm out and report back. I do use the electronics to adjust the rear suspension but have not adjusted the front suspension yet. I have noticed the front tire loses air pressure fairly quickly when the bike has been idle.
      I'm not sure the stock OEM tires are helpful in handling, not so bad as to take them off but I'll be changing them when they wear down a bit more.

      Jose. I noticed the 'front end bounce' when at 3700-3850 rpms. 3rd or 4th gear. Did you find a fix? I'm not sure if it's front end shock settings or something else?

    Did you purchase a service warranty when you bought your 900? My local Triumph dealer wants to discuss additional fees and options during the purchase. I told them that I am okay with the first 600 mile service however I am fully capable of changing the oil.

      Steven I purchased an extended warranty (OEM + extended = 7 years). Really no impact maintenance fees. For the last three bikes I have done the same thing. I will generally sell or trade the bikes before the seven years.
      I'm careful on getting the required maintenance done on schedule, I keep the receipts and documentation and if the dealer does it I have them stamp the book. I replace wear items a little earlier than required. The extended warranties are transferable so when I sell the bike the new owner has the peace of mind of having a couple years warranty remaining.
      The extended warranties I get cover same as the OEM. I supply the new owner with a book with the maintenance history and all removed OEM pieces and any accessories. I generally sell my bikes at or below blue book. It is important to me that the new owner has a great experience with the bike at a better than fair price.

    I am 79 years old and thinking of buying a motorbike. Yes, I must be crazy. I am fit and healthy and still ride my pedal bike (Raleigh Grand Prix).
    I read most of the comments below and they were very helpful. In particular, it seems that the Tiger 900 is NOT for someone just starting, like me.
    I have been thinking of the Royal Enfield Meteor 350. It looks nice, is only about 20 HP, is cheap to buy and easy to maintain. If I were crazy enough to start motorbiking would it be a good machine for me? Are there any alternatives that you can suggest?

      Roy you are correct a 500 pound bike with a high seat height is NOT a good bike to start with. I think if I was you I'd take a motorcycle safety course and depending on where you live get your motorcycle endorsement at the same time. I use to teach those courses and about 10 or 20% of the students would decide motorcycles were not for them.
      The Royal Enfield Metor 350 would ge a great new bike but I always recommended buying a used bike with similar horsepower and weight for maybe the first six months. The first six months is when your more likely to have a drop in the driveway. Dropping a used bike hurts a lot less than dropping a new bike.
      I definitely think your age is not a problem as long as you are fit but lighter and lower horsepower bikes would be recommended since you are starting so late.

I like the idea of having a motorbike: however, my head tells me that the downsides outweigh the enjoyment I would get from ownership. I think I shall just continue watching others, like yourself, enjoy their motorcycling experiences. 👍

In a few weeks I'll turn 70 and recently bought a used Honda 125cc Monkey and it is a perfect bike to ride around the neighborhood and for errands around town. It weighs just over 200 pounds, it's super quiet, comfortable seat and has a top speed of about 55 mph. I plan to ride the Monkey and perhaps my Royal Enfield Classic Chrome 500 into the sunset.
      I'd appreciate you dropping by every once and awhile and add in a comment or two.👍👍

    I have many of the same likes/dislikes with the 900 Rally Pro. Switch placement awkward, I'm 6'3" hot knees in traffic, non symmetrical headlamp, Triumph app for mapping is absolutely useless. Nice review though.

      I could see with your height your legs would be kinda of close to the vents. The new Tiger 1200 looks like it has piece that directs the heat out further...it might work for the Tiger 900 too...I'll check it out when the new 1200 gets to the dealer.
      I can use the Triumph application okay but I suppose a good garmin would be better but I use a map most of the the tije anyway.

      😁😁 No I as I remember there 35 items to do or check not including the electronic diagnostics on the 6000 mile service. Unfortunately this bike did not make it to the 12,000 service because it was stolen about a month ago before I could do the another review.
      Have no fear because I just bought a 2023 Tiger 900 to replace the one that was stolen.

    Just a note to say that the genuine Triumph crash bars are a very poor design, they mount to the engine casings and under the headlight bracket, the bolts under the headlight bracket are only 6mm, in the event of dropping the bike you are likely to break the engine casings where the lower bars attach, buy a set of bars the are mounted to the main frame.

    How do they justify 5 hours of labour for changing oil and filter? 588 dollars for changing oil. Its so irrational there must be an explanation

      @@flatcapcaferacer Thats still expensive. I had my service done at the official Triumph dealer (where I also bought the bike from) and 6k mile service was about 240usd with the work, oil changes and everything included.

      @@flatcapcaferacer They take 95 USD per hour here, so I doubt its that, but more about the time spent on the service. My bill had 1.5 hours of service time and then 100 USD more for the components. They are official Triumph service and had the official checksheet I received for all the service and testing done, so I dont think that they skipped corners either. But who knows, maybe they did... hope not! But they specialize in Triumph and do those services a lot every day, they are fast at it I think.

      My wife and I went on a 1800 mile trip around Oregon this summer . She absolutely loved the riding position and comfort . She said it was my best two up bike
      We had panniers and top case so we were heavily loaded . Two up loaded I used a downshift of one gear to quickly pass one car and two downshifts to pass two cars.
      Normally riding solo I don't do that. The bike got 48.5 mpg for the trip and the range was easy 230 to 250 miles on tank.
      The seats were very good and the combination of the seat and hand holds kept my wife from sliding forward.
      I did a video on the trip.
