This was a powerful scene. Him saying I can’t live without her hit hard.
He just says I can't live in response to her saying she dies then you'll live.
@keyboardbunny Jin Star said "Do DoHee has to die for you to live". So GuWon's literal response "I can't live" does imply that he can't live if DoHee is dead. Hence the translation "I can't live without her" is correct in that context.
The message Dohee left for Guwon tore me to pieces. It was so beautifully written but heartbreaking. Well narrated by Youjung as well.

Our beloved summer was the drama which main leads had chemistry over load then dowon couple made me feel the same vibe. I really like everything about this drama. The casting director needs a raise for casting these two charming and great actors together. They feels like real couple.

Seok Hoon's love fiir DDH was sincere and unselfish, he justwant to protect her. Star Jin is possessive and selfish love.
but Jin's story really makes me feel sad ,I hope she gets a drama with a happier ending

Not to mention despite his most recent fear of being surrounded by flames and dying then ending up in Hell, he walks into that blazing pyeon eui jeom without hesitation! Let them win Couple of the Year at least jebal!
We did it! They got SBS Drama Awards 2023 Best Couple and also both Yoojung and Song Kang got Top Excellence awards for miniseries melodrama/romcom.

Loving and being obsessed with every episode of this Drama, Kim Yoojung is just so talented when it comes to delivering theses kinda scenes and then she's also breathtakingly beautiful, also just in love with this couple.
The look he had on his face when he carried her outside and set her down.. The look of relief, terror and held-back tears.. Made my heart hurt.

Idk for some reason but I like it better when thinking that Guwon says "살 순 없어" literally translating to "I can't live" (without the "without her" part). Cause for someone who will be immortal and live a very long life, to not be able to live despite that just says a lot. Technically, the message though is still the same. I just like that translation better for some reason 😂 if someone could tell me why, please do, cuz I don't understand why I like that translation better than what is used here.
Well, the answer is quite simple actually, that's not the literal translation of what he said, that's your "roughly translated into" which includes your interpretation. What people usually call literal translation is often not a literal translation, as it would be impossible to understand a text that has just been translated word by word into another language.
What he actually says is 살아 없어 "Live doesn't exist (and that's the literal translation)" however this sentence is often referenced as "not alive" which is a cultural translation taking English grammar structure into consideration.
P.S. my rough knowledge in Korean is enough to know their language often don't use subjects or nouns in sentences as long as it is inferred that they are "present", and English is a language that needs a subject and noun structure, this sentence here is one of those cases, he doesn't mention I or her because it's inferred that he is talking about these two pronouns. So, a literal translation would feel weird, that's why you added the "I" in your sentence.
Sorry for the grammar trip, but I don't think people understand how serious it is translating, and while Netflix has it's problems, this scene was actually one of their prime moments in translation.
@@gabrielbartz6176that is incorrect! he does say 살 수 없어 as a reply to jin star’s 도도희가 죽어야 이사장이 살 수 있잖아 which roughly translates “you know do dohee has to die (so) you can live”. so he does say “i can’t live” and context tells us that it’s indeed “i can’t live without her” or “i can’t live if she dies” because of the premise that she needs to be dead in order for him to live🥺 but i do agree with the importance of translation work! a sentence like this would be difficult to understand if it were translated literally so props to the translator for adding the without her bit to clarify the nuance in his words!

So, something actually funny just happened and you've ended up solving a problem that broke my head all morning. I was trying to make OPs sentence make sense, because while sound-wise is similar their sentence was: 살 순 없어, very subtle but there's a "순" instead of "수" which wasn't adding to "I can't live" meaning, but rather "I can't buy it".
I've mentioned that my knowledge in Korean is rough so, I've spent hours going through what could've have possible be the sound combination that would have this meaning "I can't live" and so the "살아 없어" was the closest thing I could bring.
And now, you bring the right sentence
"살 수 없어" and gosh, it just sound so clear now, like I cannot un-hear him saying this. Thank you!
So basically, here we had yet another example of how translation work can be a pain, specially when actors are not pronouncing things clearly or you don't have an actual transcript.

I wanted to see more from Joo Seok-hyun. Ga-young is doing a great job at being a horrible person, I can't wait to see her character arch. Honestly, I expected the show to go toward Do-hee getting some of the powers from Gu-won and being a badass. Curious to see where it will go with how this episode ended... (no spoiler)

I love hoe yoo jung pronounce the korean, it made the msg more powerful and heartbreaking at the same time. Its also evidence that she really grow up in saeguk drama, the way she speak the formal words. I love this scence so much too❤❤❤❤
