Simplicity

Each month in the Order of the Common Life, our members reflect together on a particular commitment within our rule of life. In January 2024, we considered God's invitations for us around our commitment to simplicity. And we invite you to reflect on how God might be inviting you to lean into this.
• What does it look like for you when you are drawn (as Ignatius puts it) to “low and earthly things” in times of desolation? How do you find it relates to any of food, clothing, technology, wealth or possessions?
• What might it look like for you to share some of what this looks like with your formation group? What do you feel you could vulnerably talk about with this group? With other spiritual friends?
• What invitations might you sense to “resist” and “take initiative against” those draws toward the “low and earthly” things? What could it look like to place yourself in the presence of God’s love while you find yourself being drawn? How would you like to try this, this month?
Finally, find some community around you to share what you're noticing and what your conversation with God has been like.
