I watch a lot of spray gun reviews and always read a lot of the comments..it goes to show that it really comes down to what personally feels good for yourself, for example here I'm reading many people like iwatas , I watch an Aussie guy who favours devilbiss pro and pro lite. And there are devilbiss is fans there . I know there are also people who swear by satajets an , so I'm guessing it comes down to individual taste and what feels right in the hand, along with knowing what you're doing of course..thanks for showing the spray patterns, very interesting
I know you posted this comment 2 years ago so maybe you’ll see it, maybe you won’t. What you said is 100% true, but it all comes down to skill. I have a WS400 and it’s my favourite gun out of any I’ve ever used. However, I’ve used a MasterCraft and a Vaper and if you can have the skill, you can get iwata/devilbiss/Sata quality jobs with low budget non-pro guns. I ran into a situation where a friend of mine was gonna spray a vehicle and I happened to show up and didn’t have time to drive to my house and grab my gun so I sprayed his car for him as he is inexperienced, and I sprayed it with his $40 brand new garbage Vaper HVLP Gravity fed gun, and as long as you set it how you feel is good, test shoot something to “read” it’s spray, and go with it, you’ll get perfect results, as I did. I would have rather used my Ws400, but a Vaper didn’t model a Fine Silver Birch base coat, and laid a perfect glassy clear coat. I’m a fan of Iwata, and I have an opinion that DeVilbiss was king back in the day, but Iwata and Sara are taking over. My father has 40 years of experience and has painted many vehicles that have been sold on Barret Jackson’s auction line up and he swore by DeVilbiss. I convinced him to use my WS400 on a 64 Fairlane and he immediately bought a WS400, was super impressed and to quote him, he said to me “That gun takes the w out of work. My DeVilbiss is taking over as my new primer gun. I’ve never seen a gun lay clear like that!”. Mind you, I had a PPS 2.0 system in it, which he’s never used. And his guns like 6 years old and he rarely uses anything else because some painters don’t clean properly and you never know if a clean looking gun is gonna spit a hidden piece of solid clear into the paint, or maybe clog the tip. I also lent it to an old school DeVilbiss fan, who’s a friend of his and used to be one of my fathers employees, and he told me he’d rather stick to his Tekna because he prefers how it sprays. So again, you’re completely correct, but most of a guns finish comes down to the guy pulling the trigger. I also own an ANI F160 as a primer gun and I tried spraying clear with it. Set it like I would my Iwata and fan looked nice. No joke, it spit so much paint on my first pass that after 24” I dropped the airline and switched cause it looked like a waterfall. Turns out, you gotta wind the fluid adjuster all the way in so the needle doesn’t move, and back it out 2 threads. Feels weird because you get the air with the trigger and the second you hit the sweet spot where it’ll pull the needle back and release paint, it only moves maybe 3/16”-1/4”. So technique and setup are suuuuuuper important, but a good painter can make a bad gun look good.
@@jameshenry4332 thank you sharing that it was an interesting insight, and wow I wrote that two years ago ??? I have to agree with most people here i use the IWATA WS 400 for Clear coats and have to say handsdown best clear coat gun I have ever used. As for base coat I still think the Devilbliss DV1 Base coat gun is the best basecoat gun I’ve ever used.
Great video. I think you can’t go wrong with any of those 3. I know a lot of people hate on iwata for overattomizig and the uneven fan but if you get those guns tuned in just right they spray amazing and definitely have a huge spot in the painting world. I love my ws400 and ls400. All I do is turn the fan in by 2 - 2.5 turns.

@ theGmic357z or whatever your name is, you should never spray all guns at the same pressure. There are recommended pressures for each paint gun manufacturer as well as for each paint system (BASF, Axalta, etc) so spraying with any particular gun usually takes a little research (at least it SHOULD, to do it well). Again, you're welcome! Take care friend, and stay angry.
Very well said Marty. All guns have different setting. Iwata is one gun that you really have to set up right and follow the recommendation. Sata just pour paint set to 2 bars and spray.
Great demos of each gun, I am a marine painter spraying super yachts in New Zealand using mostly Binks, Devilbiss an Graco changing job into waterbourne paint system by Du Pont i have 1 develbiss gti pro lite (skull) looking at buying a few more Propably Sata an a mini Sata, cheers mate for the 5 star demos.
Nice job on the video gives a general idea of how each gun behaves, these rookies complaining obviously have no clue haha! I personally use an Iwata LPH400 for clears and Sata 4k for base as I love the fan adjustment for them tight corners. Keep up the great videos.
John Macintosh thanks man. I've got a few new paint guns since this video was made, I'll do another comparison one of these days with some of the suggestions from the comments
Good reviews, I'm a devilbiss man and I've tried them all, iwata uses more paint, pro lite is the nicest gun in the hand and in the right hand it's unbeatable, the x5500 is nothing special and feels like a brick in the hand and then you've got the price tags, No brainer
stacy armour I'm in total agreement. I've since come to almost despise my Devilbiss just because of the overspray, it's the hardest gun to clean by far and wastes a huge amount of material. I still love my Satas but nothing spreads like those Iwatas.
Hello, Great video. I have two iwata lph4001.4 one with orange cap and one with silver cap with a 1.3 for clear. I'm planning on buying a new gun just for clear. Sagola 4500 or iwata ws400 witch would you recommend?
Depends on what you're spraying but I like the ws400. I only demoed the sagola and it sprayed extremely well but slow. You can get the same results from the iwata and is much faster. They're both great guns
Nice, I used my Buddy SATAjet rb5000 for clear and a FLG4 for base, myself I just Aquired a IWATA LS400 Base and W400 Clear. We don't have waterborne paints in my Town but I hope I made to right choice in Guns
Those are all nice guns. You'll do great with those. Honestly, you can make a paint job look good with any gun, it's sort of just what you get used to spraying with but there are a few that help make it a little easier. You can't go wrong with Iwata or Sata though
Is the Iwata WS400 good for basecoat? Has anybody tried it? Looking for an all-around spray gun for now? How about the LS400 for clear will it do the job? just in the meantime while I save up for another gun.
Marty smith,,Have you uesd the new sagola 4600..or your talking about the sagola 4500..I just tried the sata 4000rp & its a slow gun & waste alot of paint..My tekna pro's & my pto lite"s are the gun's for me..I also have iwata w400 & lph400. .The w400 is faster then lph400..I have a orange cap on the w400 1.4 & silver on the lph400 it works better that way..Good video would like to see more...
Arianamarie Fernandez, thank you! I did try a sagola but it was just a demo fur a few days, not enough time really get to know the gun well. I did like it but they're a bit hard to come by
txcoboy I think at the time of the videos I was spraying RM, if not it was glasurit but I'm pretty sure it was all RM. Definitely BASF anyway. Glasurit recommends reducing their base coat between 60 and 80%, I think we generally do 65. I tried 80% initially and I hated it, everything was too transparent but lay down nice. 65 seems to be the magic number for me at least.
I'm not sure, I asked my jobber/paint supplier and he got the right one. I'll try to remember to look at it on Monday and see if I can see a number or something.
Iwata require precision, you mean require the person knowing how to paint. Iwata made all kind of paint guns including airbrush I use to not like Iwata but once u paint with one u never use anything else. Sata is great but they cutting off their own line the 3000 rp to sell you their new gun in couple of years no one will have part for that new sata 5000 rp. Just like the 4000 rp people would say 4000 rp who but I just paid 900 for this.
what would you recommend. My little brother is about to finish his degree in autobody and I would like to buy him some guns. What would you recommend for me to buy him?
I would agree with zoran exactly. It does depend on what he's spraying, but that gun will be great for anything. If he's spraying solvent it may put our a little too much material but would make a great clear coat gun. It's my favorite gun of all time. You can't go wrong with any gun from sata or iwata though. The tekna is less expensive but a great gun too.
I'd always suggest iwata, my favorite by far but they're expensive, just like sata. You can't go wrong with any of those 3 but I'm an iwata guy. the tekna is the cheapest but it still sprays fine
Thank you both! I recently demoed a Sagola hvlp with a 1.3 tip that I was hoping to get a comparison in video but the demo was way too quick. All around I think the gun didn't suit waterborne very well but would have been fantastic four solvent. I would like to try Sagola's waterborne tip set up our the clear set up. Maybe they'll be an addition to these videos down the road anyway.
Hey everyone, the best results that ive ever had was by following the Magic Painter Method (i found it on google) without a doubt the most useful course that I've tried.
+Jaime Salgado Iwatas are just easy to spray with, aren't they? Of course you have to know what you're doing, just like anything but they're superb guns. I'm spraying glasurit 90 line right now and using the new entech supernova and I'm loving it!
supernova all the way for clear hands down....sata for metalics bases.... and i use tekna for solid colors te10...te 20 is kind of slow for me ...i use cromax waterborne so this paint is thick and the sata does the does the job great
Jaime Salgado Which tip do you use on the supernova? .Didn't realize they were so many different supernova spray guns till I went on the website. That hybrid really pours the clear on ..Makes a nice production all over clear gun. Like your choice of guns.
I love the supernove i have 4 they will get top and bottom heavy if you put too much pressure to them i dont use them with the same pressure as my 2nd favorite gun the takna then my choice is a plus then a 2000 i havent had the chance to use a rp recently so no comment about the rp.
You cannot compare different spray gun like this. First you must use these guns for a some time and then say which is better (FOR YOU!) Some other painter like more some different gun. Devilbiss, Sata, Iwata are all good guns, everyone has own favourite.. ☺ Think, if the spray pattern indicates quality, then every gun would have a big pattern! Why is it adjustable? Because you need different pattern with different work! THERE IS NO BEST GUN..!
Well you're absolutely right Riku! I couldn't agree more, every painter sprays differently and there's a gun for every painter. This video series is merely trying to highlight some of the differences of the main gun Brands available. But I think you're 100% right, nobody can tell anyone which gun is best or which country use. There's no substitute for experience
Just found out me new Mini Jet 4400 the air regulator on the back of the gun is plastic and if you plug it into a hose that has a 100 lbs or more the plastic piece of ^&)^) breaks . I have two of the guns and both are broken. So i looked at my Adam II docks and the same plastic crap. Should have bought A Harbor freight $50.00 gun . I am done with Sata. Also do NOT leave thinner in the cup it causes the seals to shrink up and fall out . Found all this out from DAN AM Corp the Sata distributor for the USA.
Yeah, it's a well known Problem in Germany as well. My first own Spray Gun was a MiniJet 4400 RP and I had the same problem, an it was brand New. My Paint Disturber / Dealer repairs these Items a lot. A very good Thing about the 4400 Mini is the Body and the hole for the Cup are bigger and the RPS or PPS Cups will fit from the 3000/400/5000 to the "little Sister". Today I have no more Problems with my Mini in daily use. I use Sata for Base Coat and Clear, but the Best für Top Coats and Clear is IWATA Greetings from Germany,
True. It has the most overspray of any gun I've ever sprayed. It's also had more broken parts then any gun I've ever used. Several years after making this video, I don't like the pro light at all. Very poorly designed gun
The 3 guns I use every day for almost everything are: sealer-Iwata lph400 1.3 base-Iwata evotech 1.4 (supernova designed specifically for waterborne, green cap) Clear-Iwata entech 1.3 (supernova designed for clear) I have a sata rp 4000 (in this video) and a newer sata hvlp 5000 that I only ever use if I'm spraying multiple jobs like several bumpers. Backup only. Nothing even comes close to these newer Iwatas, patter is absolutely huge and lays down beautifully, sata doesn't even come close.
+Mario Iacovantuano I have SATA and Iwata. I'd quit spraying if I can't use IWATA. I'm selling my SATA. IWATA needs 1/2 the air pressure and consumes half the paint.
ai no seu pais essa dellvibis e bao porque aqui no BRASIL nao vale nada eu comprei uma e uma porcaria falei a verdade sillas .SAO PAULO...........thank.....you .... good .
It was made purely for you to waste even more of your time by leaving that comment. In reality it's for serious painters who want to know the difference between the main name brands of paint guns. But if you got nothing out of it then don't worry about it, it's nothing that you need to know
I would strongly urge you to not waste any more of your life by watching unnecessary videos. I hate the thought of you on your deathbed with this one regret, "if only I hadn't watched that one video on RUclips. ....." Life is short! Don't waste it! Cheers friend
@@generalstoaschicken 6 inches at 2 bar (every painter sprays at) or a hands span, and a drop coat at 12inches if metallic and the data sheet recommended at a lower pressure. thanks
😂😂😂 Once again, thanks for taking the time to comment! So you just answered your own question, who the hell sprays at 12 in? Did you see the part where I did a 6in distance and then a 12in distance? Every paint system I've ever sprayed for the last 15 years recommends six to eight in for your coverage coats, at around 12 in for your drop coat or effect coat. Which is pretty much what you just said but yeah, thanks again for commenting😂😂😂🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
I really love how you know what every painter sprays at also! That's badass! But if you're always spring at 2 bars you are wrong. Check with the gun recommendation as well as the paint manufacturer (you might want to check with your reps😂😂). They're all different sister🤟🤟🤟

I agree fully, except I use a 1.3 for clear. Amazing gun regardless
The other day I tryed the supernova 1.4 on silver wow I was impressed
+Jaime Salgado Iwatas are just easy to spray with, aren't they? Of course you have to know what you're doing, just like anything but they're superb guns. I'm spraying glasurit 90 line right now and using the new entech supernova and I'm loving it!
I'm Axalta clear LE8700 very nice... and if I put Plas-Stick 2350S omg it's lays down like glass
@@generalstoaschicken what pressure are u using with the glasurit base?
supernova all the way for clear hands down....sata for metalics bases.... and i use tekna for solid colors te10...te 20 is kind of slow for me ...i use cromax waterborne so this paint is thick and the sata does the does the job great
Jaime Salgado Which tip do you use on the supernova? .Didn't realize they were so many different supernova spray guns till I went on the website. That hybrid really pours the clear on ..Makes a nice production all over clear gun. Like your choice of guns.
1.4 ws400... super clear gun
Thanks Jaime...with a last name like that, I figured you'd be a Sagola man...:)
Have you tried the Sata 5000 RP yet?
No just 4000
I love the supernove i have 4 they will get top and bottom heavy if you put too much pressure to them i dont use them with the same pressure as my 2nd favorite gun the takna then my choice is a plus then a 2000 i havent had the chance to use a rp recently so no comment about the rp.
Quindi il ventaglio più esteso è della iwata?
There's no substitute for experience
nothing better than Sata
Just found out me new Mini Jet 4400 the air regulator on the
back of the gun is plastic and if you plug it into a hose that has a 100 lbs or
more the plastic piece of ^&)^) breaks . I have two of the guns and both
are broken. So i looked at my Adam II docks and the same plastic crap. Should
have bought A Harbor freight $50.00 gun . I am done with Sata. Also do NOT leave thinner in the cup it causes the seals
to shrink up and fall out . Found all this out from DAN AM Corp the Sata
distributor for the USA.
I use Sata for Base Coat and Clear, but the Best für Top Coats and Clear is IWATA
Greetings from Germany,
Clean your guns!!!!
Beginner....
All of my Iwata has Perfect pattern, no other guns come close to them, and the atomisation is the best ever!
IWATA ❤️
🤣🤣👍💪💪💪
Bought the prolite and don't like it, really loud and a lot of overspray
True. It has the most overspray of any gun I've ever sprayed. It's also had more broken parts then any gun I've ever used. Several years after making this video, I don't like the pro light at all. Very poorly designed gun
I feel like it uses too much material also
SATA WINN
SATA is the best!
which models you have tried personally? but please no lie :)
The 3 guns I use every day for almost everything are:
sealer-Iwata lph400 1.3
base-Iwata evotech 1.4 (supernova designed specifically for waterborne, green cap)
Clear-Iwata entech 1.3 (supernova designed for clear)
I have a sata rp 4000 (in this video) and a newer sata hvlp 5000 that I only ever use if I'm spraying multiple jobs like several bumpers. Backup only. Nothing even comes close to these newer Iwatas, patter is absolutely huge and lays down beautifully, sata doesn't even come close.
I use Sata for basecoat only Iwata for clear love them both
who uses waterbone anyway? only in usa i guess
The uk for the last 15 years?
I can’t believe people are still using solvent basecoat
Devillbiss 2 ok bro power seh
Second one hands down
iwata
agreed! iwata is my favorite too. great guns!
sata
Iwata and Devilbiss. Sata desk t do anything better and is ridiculously more expensive.
SATA is by the far the best spray gun on the planet!
+Mario Iacovantuano
I have SATA and Iwata.
I'd quit spraying if I can't use IWATA.
I'm selling my SATA.
IWATA needs 1/2 the air pressure and consumes half the paint.
LOLOLOLOLOL
Eu profetiso que vou ter uma dessa em nome de Jesus.
I used all SATA is better than everything and I used new Avatar is the best all of the guns
Хороший обзор
Marty smith your a real pole smoker
sata is best
ai no seu pais essa dellvibis e bao porque aqui no BRASIL nao vale nada eu comprei uma e uma porcaria falei a verdade sillas .SAO PAULO...........thank.....you .... good .
No, you’ just don’t know how to use one.
theres 2 mins of my life i will never get back, whats the point of this vid?
It was made purely for you to waste even more of your time by leaving that comment. In reality it's for serious painters who want to know the difference between the main name brands of paint guns. But if you got nothing out of it then don't worry about it, it's nothing that you need to know
I would strongly urge you to not waste any more of your life by watching unnecessary videos. I hate the thought of you on your deathbed with this one regret, "if only I hadn't watched that one video on RUclips. ....."
Life is short! Don't waste it!
Cheers friend
I think I hope this guy has anouthr job outher than painting haha
it's a shame that anyone can post a video.....
who the hell sprays at 12 inches, point less.
Uh, pretty much every painter I've ever known. Anyway, thanks for commenting!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
@@generalstoaschicken 6 inches at 2 bar (every painter sprays at) or a hands span, and a drop coat at 12inches if metallic and the data sheet recommended at a lower pressure. thanks
😂😂😂
Once again, thanks for taking the time to comment!
