    Thank you so much. The point about single quotations saved me! I've had this problem for a long time but could never figure out how to fix it!

    Thanks! Really enjoyed your narration and the gentle chirping of birds in the background, very informative and relaxing :)

      Oh, thanks, I had birds in the background of one of my earlier videos bacause I recorded it outside in the summer. I liked the sound so much that I have tried to have it in other videos. It seems to offer a good contrast to the subject matter - or maybe I am overthinking it!

    I'd like to do a calculated field that's based on the "Grand Total" presented by the Pivot Table itself. How do you reference that? Imagine that you'd like to add a percentage of the Salary over the 'Grand Total' (it might not make sense in your spreadsheet but it does on my data) :-)

    I have a table with 3 fields: Month, Out, and In. I have created a pivot table and group by the Month. I have also created a calculated field to calculate Out - In for this field (I used the formula "= Out - In") and I got the error #NAME? for the calculated column. Anyone help me to use the right formula for the calculated field?

    Great video. Man, Google sheets doesn't make it easy sometimes :) I was bashing my head with what to use as variables in the formula. Thanks for the help!
    (by the way, if I go with your example, it tells me I shouldn't go to college for too many years!)

      Yes, you should go to your professor and explain that you are almost done with school. Source -> RUclips video.

    Thanks for posting this. Overcoming the hurdle with the spaces in the column name was especially helpful.
    What I'm having a hard time with is that the formula input box is too small to effectively enter a longer formula (for example, an IF statement that I need to parse a date column). Any thoughts on this?

    • @ProlificOaktree
      @ProlificOaktree  3 года назад

      Yeah, that box stinks. I typically type it out in a cell then copy and paste it in once I know it works.

    Mine wants a space for each end of the column header name before closing them with single quotation marks. Something like:
    ' Column Header '
    If I put something like:
    'Column Header' or
    'Column' or
    Column
    it returns an error. I double-checked and my headers do not have spaces at both ends, but when I copied the cell (click on cell, ctrl+v) and pasted it on the calculated field, it had the spaces (without the single quotation marks).
    It seems Google Sheets was updated. Hope this helps.

    What if I would like to use the newly created Calculated Field "salary per year of college" in another calculated field? Is there any way to make it work by just referring to its name in the formula ('cause it does not work typing the name directly)?

    • @ProlificOaktree
      @ProlificOaktree  5 лет назад

      I don't think so. Just copy and paste the first calculation was and build on it. Not the best solution, but it may work.

      @@ProlificOaktree Thanks! Yes, I was doing just that, but thought perhaps there was another way round; after all, Excel does support that. But thank you, anyway!

    I hate that unlike excel you have to manually enter all the values such a dumb drawback to google
