Mating and orgling at Mullacott Alpacas

Archie is now mating Caramel. If the mating takes the caramel will have a cria in about 11.5 months. We arrange out mating for cria to arrive from mid April to mid June, so those not pregnant by the end of June will have to wait until we start the mating again in May 2022. Breeding alpacas is not quick!
The distinctive noice is call orgling. The alpaca sound of mating!
A quick look into the girl’s pen shows those that are probably not pregnant hanging round near the boys, while the others stay well out the way. Dilly Daly has just been mated and Polka Dot (although keen) is too young (only 12 months) and too small (only just coming up to 50kg).
