Really good point and I know where you're coming from. I think in recent years a distinction has been made between Liberalism and Libertarianism as Liberalism has changed in certain ways. This video is referring to Liberalism in the classic sense, so Classical Liberalism as it is now being described as.
Yes it can't be taken too literal, we're just trying to get the arguments on both sides, so we decided for the liberal to argue for socialism and the conservative to argue for capitalism. The characters haven't really got a solid personality, if you watch all videos there might be inconsistencies in their arguments across a variety of videos.
Basically, socialists and communists have been hiding their agenda behind words like liberalism and progressivism and running for office "as Democrats." They keep denying that they have anything to do with the old Jacksonian Democrats who were for slavery, segregation, Jim Crow, racial profiling, racist gun control laws, segregation of public schools, etc. They now insist that they've completely changed. If they really have a different agenda, why don't they just use the Socialist Party brand name?

According to this video I'm liberal in the sense that I stress the importance of being an individual that makes their own choices, but that doesn't describe how the democratic party operates at all in the US. It's all about group identity. You are bullied and/or canceled if you disagree with the group's ideals. I hated it when I heard Biden say that you're not black if you vote Republican despite the long history of racism in the democratic party.
Liberals actually believe in societal or collective "responsibility", and are in favor of increased govt. control of your everyday life, whereas the conservative believes in individual responsibility and less govt. control. The liberal may have their desire to be "individualistic," however, and as you stated, if your "individual" views and beliefs are contrary to the collective (eg. the mainstream media dominated left), you stand a good chance of being ridiculed, cancelled, etc. Who gets cancelled at a higher rate?

I just watched a video of liberalism versus libertarianism, and he describe libertarianism as you describe liberalism. He also might say that it’s not conservatism versus liberalism, but liberalism versus neoliberalism.
Great video. Although, I would argue that your liberal character sounds more like a libertarian/classical liberal and not like a modern leftist/socialist/progressive. I myself am a moderate with strong libertarian leanings. I would never describe myself as either progressive or conservative, given that neither change nor tradition are unqualified goods.
Definitely agree with your assertion that the liberal character seems more libertarian/classic liberal than the modern day leftist. A HUGE difference between the two.
I’m liberal but I hold some conservative ideals like I believe culture and religion should be important but it shouldn’t be as powerful as it is currently like for example if your hyper religious and believe a sin is something that goes against your God ours Gods beliefs then so one could change your religion’s holy book and then they’ll believe whatever the book says.

Is it correct to refer to "change" as progressiveness? Both conversatism and liberalism support it but the first seems to prioritize collectivism, the latter favors individualism.
In the very last like 30 seconds of the video, he basically says that conservatism is brainwashing so people can think simular, while liberalism are free thinkers.
Humans didm't just evolve in one day, evolution is a process. People made mistakes and we must learn from it but there is no reason to repeat the whole course just because you failed in one subject.
Conservatism teaches conformity while Liberalism teaches individuality. We are all individuals. This world is full of individual humans, not an ant farm. We are not Cookie cutter clones like ants.
If, like you and I, a person believes that humans are individuals and not ant-like then what you’ve written makes sense. The problem is that anyone who has different philosophical beliefs will end up deriving alternate political beliefs from them (and we mustn’t forget that even individualism is based on the idea that, at a fundamental level, we are all identical in some way).

@0:38 the change of tonality LOL homie was creeped out after that "I see" @2:23 my new favorite activity anywho, i do disagree though in regards to liberalism having the potential to separate us as a collective society. Sure, we may be different in certain aspects (because of that freedom to choose and thus freedom to walk our own path i.e be OURSELVES), but fundamentally we are one. On a more spiritual and also biological sense. The human populace is the populace we can most relate to. Also, there is bound to be shared common beliefs among groups of people. Is it bad to be divided into groups? No, because if everyone were alike, that would be rather boring and bizarre. Everyone is, thankfully, different in different regards. In regards to culture, for many it is not important. Connecting on a deeper sense may be more important to that population, and that's fine. Whereas the "cultured" individuals (aka conservatism) feel culture is what brings them together, while the liberalists have different values of what it means to be connected and maintain that connection by different, equally valid means :)
Depends on what you mean by traditional. If you're referring to when whites approved and exercise slavery of Africans and indigenous? Then, no. If you mean when non white men and women could not vote? Then no. If you mean when women were not to be educated and limited only to the home? Then no. If you mean believing in a flat earth and burning people at the stake because they defied the church beliefs? Then no.
theres liberalism vs conservatism and then theres radicalized liberalism vs radicalized conservatism which is what creates the divide between both parties
Liberalism and conservatism in regards to "politicians"oddly enough changes from region to region, even within a country and its states as any one can have a foundation or core of an idea/belief,but it changes from person to person as ones opinions, education, comprehensive understanding, perspective, situations and beliefs dont always perfectly align with these core values.Example:In the United States Conservatives and Liberals are not the same as in England nor France. Many English Conservatives would sound like an American liberal at times and oddly enough their relationships tend to be better between the opposing sides (in the west) than those who they align with or are assumed to see eye to eye.In the States, a Texas conservative and a New York conservative are so different and the Citizens have a serious lack of being able to identify the differences..majority just pick s side without even being fully aware or knowledgeable of who they are choosing to represent them. The most important choice of a citizen (especially of the United States) is to remain in the Center, because whether you like it or not as an American you tend to be a bit conservative and as well a bit Liberal by default. If you don't remain at the center or moderate, you actually do lose your value and now work for the politicians because you are sided, rather than refusing to be moved without action and representation ,they now have to work for you/your vote,it creates leverage.Situations do change and sometimes the current state of any nation calls for different ideas to be put into actions,as too much of anything is never good.Even in my reply,I'm pretty sure someone's opinion will be different, but if they choose to be moderate they can stand in the middle by using their basic awareness and communication skills to see both perspectives leading to negotiation and solved problems.
it starts by accurately implying that political philosophy can be divided into liberalism and conservatism. after that it strikes out in every way. what it describes as liberalism is actually libertarianism (if you define libertarianism as I do, that is "conservatism with an emphasis on individual liberty"). what it describes as the political philosophy of conservatism is actually a description of people who are psychologically conservative, i.e. have a conservative personality. (for example, people who dress conservatively.) the video doesn't say what the true aspects of liberalism and conservatism as political philosophies are. the primary characteristics of conservatism as a political philosophy are: -freedom -judeo-christian principles -e pluribus unum -and "do your duty." the primary characteristics of liberalism are: -equity (AKA equality of outcome) -secular humanism -diversity (AKA multiculturalism) -and "follow your heart." I would say that the secondary values of the philosophy of conservatism are capitalism and Constitutional representative democracy. and the secondary values of liberalism are socialism and Athenian democracy. again, the mistakes this video makes is first to conflate political philosophy with personality. and second, to mistake libertarianism for liberalism.
Have you ever thought that maybe the civilizations that succeeded do so because they adapted true principles about human nature that lead to social welfare, and passed those on through tradition? Like taboos against sexual promiscuity. Prior to anti-biotics and contraceptives, abstinence and monogamy protected from deadly disease pandemics like AIDS, Syphilis, and also TB though that isn't a STD it was often had by poor prostitutes. Societies that had strong taboos against promiscuity had less single parent households, which was and is the biggest indicator of future criminal activity. They had less poverty, which meant society could spend more time on Philosophy, medicine. Research. If you investigate every taboo held by conservatism you will find evolutionary advantages those taboos would yield historically. Progressive Liberals now tend to make changes based on how they, or someone else will feel... not based on evidence or even really a plan.
People will be promiscuous regardless of you make them taboo or not. It’s ironic how you complain about single motherhood and criminal activity when abortion rights can easily prevent these as long as we make them accessible. But conservatives are not interested in preventing poverty or crime as much as they are interested into punishing women for being sexually expressive.
@@ilikepancakes2368 Saying abortion stops single motherhood is akin to saying killing homeless people will lower the number of homeless people. It technically works, but its frowned upon. Edit: the first part was dumb because I misread your comment

(Coming from an Immigrant, i believe that conservation values are very important and that individual freedom should not mean the freedom to "wear skirts or make up as a man" or "be gay") I believe in my religious and tradition values and I do my best to adapt to the tradition of the country I immigrated to, so that they can keep their conservative tradition values and not be replaced by my 3rd party beliefs.

It is interesting for me, an American, to watch this because we define liberalism and conservatism very differently. In the U.S. conservatives fight to conserve the constitution as much as any cultural values. Our constitution is almost as old as our country, and much of our culture revolves around individual liberty. Those liberties are the fruit of our constitution, so our liberties, and our constitution, are tightly associated here. One of those liberties is the right to keep your own property, including, our incomes. People on the other side, whatever name you wish to refer to them by, liberals, leftists, progressives, etc... believe it is the right of the government, and a benefit, for government to tax people, from which money is given by the government to whoever they decide needs it. This behavior by the government is not described in the constitution, and charity is assumed by conservatives to be the responsibility of individuals, not the government.
I disagree. To reword what you said to show what I think it is: It is interesting for me, an American, to watch this because we define liberalism and conservatism very differently. In the U.S. conservatives fight to conserve cultural values. Our constitution is almost as old as our country, and much of our culture revolves around individual liberty. Those liberties are the fruit of our constitution, so our liberties, and our constitution, are tightly associated here. One of those liberties is the right to keep your own property, including, our incomes. People on the other side, whatever name you wish to refer to them by, liberals, leftists, progressives, etc... believe that cultural values are not as important of a view to craft policy, instead to view it from a spectrum of Oppression and liberating individuals from institutions of Oppression. Your contrasting ideas @deezynar are not apples to apples comparison. Liberals obviously start at the same starting point as we conservatives do, and this the constitution. our differences are different on a pychological political axis. Civilization vs Barbarism. Wheras liberals think on terms of oppression versus liberation of oppression. You are falsely interpreting them as antithetical to what we think is important for a cohesive nation on strong patriotism.
@@jimba6486 Liberals wish to change the constitution. You say that both sides start at the same starting point, the constitution, which is true, but conservatives wish to keep the constitution as is, at least mostly. Most conservatives would love an amendment outlawing abortion. But Leftists would change it significantly. First of all, they'd mutilate the first amendment by adding "hate speech" clauses. And they'd just repeal the second. They'd make abortion, homosexuality, bisexuality, pansexuality, transexuality, and every other type deviancy you can think of, would all be constitutionally guaranteed rights. Of course, they'd pass an equal rights amendment that would claim to give females equal rights to men, even though the constitution does not currently differentiate between men and women. Leftists would probably make drug use a constitutionally protected right as well. Leftism has mutated over time. Originally, it was just about being against capitalism, but over time it has embraced moral deviancy as firmly as Marxism. So, in a way, you, and I, agree that culture is one of the central issues here. The changes that Leftists wish to make would absolutely have cultural ramifications, and they are motivated to change our culture by changing our constitution. My original comment said that conservatives in the U.S. "fight to conserve the constitution as much as any cultural values. Those liberties are the fruit of our constitution, so our liberties, and our constitution, are tightly associated here." My point being that culture and constitution are directly linked. There is one more issue that neither of us mentioned. There are people on the Left who are actively working to destroy the United States, not just turn it into a paradise for drug addicts, and sexual deviants. They believe that running it into the ground, destroying our economic structure as well as our morals, then they hope to come in afterward and create what they hope will be a Marxist paradise, but would actually be a living hell on earth. Antifa, and Black Lives Matter, are both working towards that goal.
Conservatism emphasize the tradition and common beliefs. It says that we should hold on to the tradition because they are built up in thousands of years. On the other hand liberalism doesn't care about tradition, even says that personal freedom is more important than anything and this can lead to demolition of traditions and cause drastic changes. We also know that conservatives are totally against any rapid changes.
It’s funny that the USA has a tradition of gun rights (supported by the right leaning conservatives) but liberalism as you have said is about personal freedom, and gun rights is most certainly a point where the individual wants their freedom to bare arms…
I am very liberal, compared to my family, but i see how liberalism in the west has divided us so much. There is no togetherness, at least not in America. It makes me sad.
I see no reason why personal freedom and individual identity shouldn’t win out. If the entire world adopts the ideology of acceptance, we wouldn’t need borders and all cultures can be celebrated as one.
Politic-ing has to be done, there is no way to avoid it. Language and the undefinable terms we use are the source of the difficulties we face as humans. We can find solid definitions of the terms Liberal and Conservative but if you ask an individual, they will each have a unique interpretation of what it means, to them, to be one. Life's not black or white, and so, firm grips on your own beliefs are breaking points.
@Eyezayah It's definitely a trip. I politely disagree with the notion of an absolute anything so I do deny absolute black and white. Greyness implies a binary mixture of black and white while we see there are more than two sides of every issue. So I think of issues as a mixture of a spectrum of multiple views blending to make all sorts of colors when combined. In the end what I don't believe in is answers because answers would be final. The best humanity comes up with are solutions that minimize problems. Solutions are more flexible and can be replaced when a better solution comes along. That's my philosophy anyway and you git what ya paid fer it.🤠 Take care out there.
Theoretically, this is perhaps true however in practice there are enormous differences in how these ideologies behave across western societies. Liberals seem to favor government control, and desire more stringent policies regarding laws that they believe will benefit their viewpoint. Conservatives almost exclusively promote minimal governmental involvement and stand for individual freedom, as long as it doesn't interfere with anyone else's freedoms. To reinforce this observation, conservatives are more focused on strengthening the nuclear family and reinforcing the role of parental guidance while the liberals are focused on collectivism, wanting to assign the state with more authority over children than the parents, via learning institutions, often trying to incorporate their values into school curriculums to indoctrinate children into their ideological views. Freedom of speech, freedom of press, freedom to remain open during a pandemic and freedom to decide what irreversible medical procedures are performed on them are all examples of these same overall views on the part of liberals and conservatives.
As a liberal I couldn’t disagree more. This is a completely closed-minded view on the two. Here’s an example that I would argue is more accurate and inclusive of sub-groups. Im its most general sense, Liberals believe in helping those of need (meaning people who are disadvantaged) first. Conservatives believe in upholding the status quo; be it empires of government
Mc redwolf If you actually look at what he said he’s right on the money. But you define a liberal as someone who wants to help others when I disagree. Conservatives donate more to charity Liberals try to steal others wealth and dictate where it goes Conservatives believe in individual Liberals believe in government or collectivism
@@stayswervin554 That is misconstrued I feel. I personally would rather see a level playing field over taking peoples money. It’s like the powerful control us and abuse their privileges, so why not take what they stole from us?
The liberalism described in this video is my conservatism, almost to a tee. See, I believe that rugged individualism and personal freedom are the most important traditional values of the USA, and by American power and influence, other western countries as well. I always voted Liberal because I thought the definition given here was true. Upon paying further attention, I realized that what we are offered under left-wing parties nowadays is something radically different. Freedom is mocked, collectivism is praised and individualism ridiculed. Freedom of speech, freedom to defend one's self, freedom of assembly are all attacked by proponents of the modern left. The modern right seeks to disassociate from people who believe in racist or other discriminatory ideologies, is against race (or other immutable characteristic)-based categorization of people known as identity politics, and is vehemently against the erosion of freedom of speech colloquially refereed to as cancel culture. Due to the radical shift in recent times (or clarification of what the agenda was all along), I have found that conservatism better describes and brings about my beliefs centred around personal freedom.
What about if you don't believe that you MUST hold tradition and cutom as the most important required things to be happy. And instead you just believe that whatever leads to making you happy and healthy and isn't harmful (which can be anything that leads to positive outcome and not sadistic harmful) feelings) is important instead. @@justamerica856 Individualism? This is actually what the founding fathers wanted, with "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" as the most important basic rights. America's tradition is to be individualist, so I would say your ideology could be called personal individualism vs the national individualism that is enshrined in American values and tradition.
kinda sad that America has reduced to this. The issue with two sides to choose is one can be problematic if you lean on one side further. The ideal part of the spectrum is the center. Why do people forget that Moderates don't exists?
I agree with the commenter who stated that this post seems to have confused liberalism with libertarianism. Furthermore, I do not agree that conservatism is a philosophy, thinking that it is more like a mental illness, delusion, or form of denial. Conservatism is also an exercise in futility. Keepers of the status quo; proponents of some non-existent bygone era; all are lost in a self-induced pipe dream. The only aspect of reality that can be relied on is change. As Lenin said, sometimes not much happens for decades, then a decade can happen in a year. That happens mostly because folks are fearful of change and some will attempt to move heaven and earth to thwart and deny it, and then the levee breaks and change floods over us. 2024 or 2025 is shaping up to be that kind of flood. Learn to embrace it and swim with the flow, there is no real alternative besides denial.
Mostly, it's the timeline difference. Nowadays, it takes 20 -30 years to get any new stuff passed, so it's easy to lose motivations or forget when being a liberal. For conservates it's too fast for them then they get frustrated when over a wide swathe of USA there are no other competitions to Republican party. After all, conservate media and Democrat politicians are a decade behind liberals on Israel.
Conservative is all about being in control not letting the people speak freely. Just because a person is liberal that doesn't mean they're not going to celebrate Christmas or Thanksgiving, then again Christmas and Thanksgiving is your choice anyone's choice. Really good point and I know where you're coming from. I think in recent years a distinction has been made between Liberalism and Libertarianism as Liberalism has changed in certain ways. This video is referring to Liberalism in the classic sense, so Classical Liberalism as it is now being described as.
+Philosophy Vibe yes, I figured as much but in the later video the blue shirt guy argues for socialism...

Conservatism teaches conformity while Liberalism teaches individuality. We are all individuals. This world is full of individual humans, not an ant farm. We are not Cookie cutter clones like ants.
If, like you and I, a person believes that humans are individuals and not ant-like then what you’ve written makes sense. The problem is that anyone who has different philosophical beliefs will end up deriving alternate political beliefs from them (and we mustn’t forget that even individualism is based on the idea that, at a fundamental level, we are all identical in some way).

anywho, i do disagree though in regards to liberalism having the potential to separate us as a collective society.
Strong traditional hard working men are you here with me?

If you mean believing in a flat earth and burning people at the stake because they defied the church beliefs? Then no.

What if you like both sides
it starts by accurately implying that political philosophy can be divided into liberalism and conservatism.
after that it strikes out in every way.
what it describes as liberalism is actually libertarianism (if you define libertarianism as I do, that is "conservatism with an emphasis on individual liberty").
what it describes as the political philosophy of conservatism is actually a description of people who are psychologically conservative, i.e. have a conservative personality. (for example, people who dress conservatively.)
the video doesn't say what the true aspects of liberalism and conservatism as political philosophies are.
the primary characteristics of conservatism as a political philosophy are:
-freedom
-judeo-christian principles
-e pluribus unum
-and "do your duty."
the primary characteristics of liberalism are:
-equity (AKA equality of outcome)
-secular humanism
-diversity (AKA multiculturalism)
-and "follow your heart."
I would say that the secondary values of the philosophy of conservatism are capitalism and Constitutional representative democracy.
and the secondary values of liberalism are socialism and Athenian democracy.
again, the mistakes this video makes is first to conflate political philosophy with personality.
and second, to mistake libertarianism for liberalism.
Progressive Liberals now tend to make changes based on how they, or someone else will feel... not based on evidence or even really a plan.
which means liberalism is all about being whiny poosis while conservative is facts don't care about emotions

@@ilikepancakes2368 yes, but the percentages matter no matter how much you say they don't. Like your parents not talking to you or society looking at you a certain way can take you off that path of self destruction. The west faces this exact problem of accept me who I am even if I slept with people in the past. For example if you are in a buffet and you're in line and everyone is eating for 10 dollars but suddenly when your turn comes the staff closes the lid and asks you to commit and invest in the business then only you'll get your meal will you do it ? That's exactly how mordern women operate. They go on lavish dates get ran through in their 20s then ask you to settle in their 30s and to commit. That's the problem. Why should I accept a women in her decline when she rejected me in her prime ? I rather have a traditional mother who can raise my children. (I would like to exclude economical ideologies such as communism from this argument because I do believe that a Nationalist half communist government could work, anyway) I believe that a countries tradition should be kept and all immigrants that arrive to the country s should try to adapt the culture of the Nation. I do believe in the theory of replacement without the most extreme belief.

Yes we are finally starting to take an interest in our Universe.
Great response 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼.
I disagree. To reword what you said to show what I think it is:
It is interesting for me, an American, to watch this because we define liberalism and conservatism very differently. In the U.S. conservatives fight to conserve cultural values. Our constitution is almost as old as our country, and much of our culture revolves around individual liberty.
@@deezynar You're calling homosexuality, bisexuality etc. a "deviancy"?

Conservatism emphasize the tradition and common beliefs. It says that we should hold on to the tradition because they are built up in thousands of years. On the other hand liberalism doesn't care about tradition, even says that personal freedom is more important than anything and this can lead to demolition of traditions and cause drastic changes. We also know that conservatives are totally against any rapid changes.
It’s funny that the USA has a tradition of gun rights (supported by the right leaning conservatives) but liberalism as you have said is about personal freedom, and gun rights is most certainly a point where the individual wants their freedom to bare arms…
I am proud conservative
No, I don’t see the argument. You can’t force people to be the same. That’s what freedom is. The choice.
I'd like to be spectatorism.

That's all conservatism Does is Hold us Back to Process.
Progress lead us not knowing what women is 🤣🤣🤣
This is a great video
Thank you.
Conservative is all about being in control not letting the people speak freely. Just because a person is liberal that doesn't mean they're not going to celebrate Christmas or Thanksgiving, then again Christmas and Thanksgiving is your choice anyone's choice. Liberals about loving everyone whether you are different race or religion.
Except that freedom isn't necessarily a good thing, if we base our laws and principles off freedom then by that logic people are allowed to murder because freedom right?
@@IssyFishyy we can have freedom and still have laws in place. Having Freedom does it mean committing crimes. Smh... you commit a crime you lose your freedom, there you go simple as that.
@@thomasmedina525 There you go, you laid it all out, therefore you cannot use freedom as the fundamental basis for your argument, which is what you did in your original comment.
@@IssyFishyy just because this laws that doesn't mean you cannot have freedom. You can still have freedom with laws. Sorry to say but you don't make any sense.
@@thomasmedina525 On the contrary, YOU don't make any sense, if i quote from your comment: "Conservative is all about being in control", the foundation of your argument is literally implying that freedom is necessary. There is nothing wrong with being in control.
Funny thing is, you leftists are the ones who want to ban free speech and apparently us conservatives are the ones who don't let people speak freely?
