If you're trying to learn bird calls and songs, that's great. It can be challenging and takes patience. You have to develop a practice of listening at good places you can go to frequently during migration. You have to learn the birds, and learn how to actually listen to everything. At first I could only learn a few species a year. And you almost have to relearn every year. Some might learn faster with all these apps and stuff-and hopefully with this video!--but it is normal for it to be slow. You have to almost enjoy the mystery of not knowing what you are hearing a lot of the time!

Totally agree. I keep re-watching the older video 'Gulf Crossing: Story of Spring' one of the best documentaries on Warbler/songbird migration ever ! I sound like a broken record best it was such a good video I re-watch

I've been watching and/or listening to this video front-to-back once a week or so for the past month before spring migration gets ramped up. Resources like this incredibly well done video along with the useful apps and sites have helped me learn and observe a TON in not even a full year(might have stated birding around July 4 last yr) of birding.
I was already always outside hiking, fishing, or kayaking and could name a good number of random birds, but I truly had never seen a single Warbler or Vireo that I was aware of and thought Cuckoo birds were only in clocks! Lmao. Yesterday I was able to listen to a Carolina Wren and Northern Parula harmonizing their songs thanks to this video. Otherwise I would have been blissfully unaware of this unique behavior occurring even while recognizing each individual song. Thank you for putting this together so well!

I can't believe there aren't more people using spectrogram when showcasing bird songs. It is amazing how each for someone like me to understand songs with these.

Betsy you did an outstanding job with this I've listened to many tapes and CDs of Warblers but you went into so much detail and you showed the Birds singing and you could see the beaks of the birds moving back and forth you did outstanding on this video , thank you for doing this video
