Well, this video has accomplished my goal, monetization has covered the cost of getting the hours timer for my lawnmower. Thanks everyone for their watch and comments on this video!
Great video. I took the little “window” off the new sticker where the hour display is to make it easier to line up before applying. And… it lined up perfectly!!
I just paid $3,300 for a ZT1 50 At Home Depot with a Kawasaki commercial grade 23 horsepower motor. I never seen or knew a Cub cadet had a Kawasaki motor. Runs like a champ.
I absolutley agree. I the Kohler maintenance is by hours and I think the Kohler warranty is also. IMHO, Cub Cadet is advertising a lower price, then one has to buy the hour meter and deck wash kits, which are included on competitors products. It makes their pricing appear more attractive. I think better customer service would be a better selling point than upcharging for parts.
Yeah I bought the 54 inch zero turn and paid $4,500. For that much an hour meter should be installed to were it can't be tampered with. Imagine someone installing it 500 hrs after and the meter ready zero 😂
100% agree, I would much rather have an hour meter than the stupid LED “headlights” which do absolutely nothing. Who mows at night anyway. Useful accessories over gimmicks any day of the week!
Anytime we ask why a company does something, the answer is always 'money'. In this case its not what money they're saving, its what money they're making. More and more people these days want hour meters so they make you buy it. It costs them about $2 to make it and sell it for $40 (or whatever). Basically the same reason you don't get leather seats in a bare bones vehicle. The leather seats only cost $100 more to make than the cloth ones but they charge you $2000 dollars more for them. Why did I buy a Cub Cadet? They're one of the few, if only mower manufacturers that don't make you buy Cub Cadet motor oil to maintain your warranty. And that's another scam!
I have the same problem with my new ZT1. How do they plan to honor the warranty without an hour meter? The meter kit is not cheap to buy, its about $100.
My new ZT1 LT 46 was delivered today and see that it doesn't come with an hour meter like all the others of that same model have. Another difference is the choke is a separate pull knob instead of being integrated with the throttle lever. (Also, the choke knob was installed at a slight angle instead of fitting flush.) The Manufacture date says 04-24. I'm wondering if this is going to be standard procedure going forward?
Just bought one had to buy the hour meter kit. It would probably add 15.00 dollars to the total cost, insanely stupid to not include it as the wiring harness is already there.
Hey Brad. Question for you. After I added the meter (and installed correctly), I am now getting this message on the display “Lo Oil Press”. The mower is brand new and the oil is at perfect level. Thoughts?
I just got mine from my local T.S.C. Store. They had it for $39.99 + tax. They had 3 in stock in store. Surely you can order it from them if they don't have it in the store.
Not only cub cadet Toro also doesn't put hour meters on some of there mowers next time at tractor supply take a look at other manufacturers mowers n you will see
i think cub doesn't install hour meters because they have an unlimited hours warranty for the first 3 years. by NOT installing an hour meter on every unit, they are saving $30 or so (wholesale cost for an hour meter?) per unit. in other words, they are improving their margins by $30 per unit, give or take. and, by not installing an hour meter on every single unit, they are more than making up the cost of covering warranty repairs of every unit combined for the first 3 years. this 'accounting decision' on cub's part leaves the consumer holding the bag at the end of the 3 year warranty period. additionally, for $45 retail, a seller could fudge the hours on the unit by simply installing a new hour meter when the time comes to part with the mower. definitely a problem here. the hour meter needs to be linked to an internal engine component to prevent hacking of hours.
I got the mower last year for around 4k USD and I used it a few times and then winter came . Well I went to check the hours because the owners manual has hourly scheduled maintenance and I can't find the hour meter anywhere. The wiring diagram doesn't have one anywhere in the circuit so are u telling me that there isn't a #$+$; hour meter from the factory ? Seriously? I just started a search online and your video is the first I found and I see u installing one but I'm so confused I have never had a riding mower especially one that cost this much not have an hour meter , plus why give u a book with hourly scheduled maintenance but not install a meter , I am at a lost for words now ...
@@FarmerBrad now when u bought the mower did they at least tell u that it didn't have it? They told me about the arm rests, the trailer hitch, the deck wash and a few other things that were optional but not one person mentioned I would need the hour meter to be bought separately too? Not even when going over the hourly scheduled maintenance with me two different people went over this , once when purchasing and the delivery guy that assembled it on site when it came and got dropped off in the driveway in a huge crate the guy put it together handed me the user manual the engine user manual and once again reiterated the hourly maintenance and when he saw two other just regular cub cadet rider mowers in the maintenance shed he said " ohh I guess your aware of cub cadets hourly maintenance and how to read the hour meter!" I laughed and said yeah I've had a few regular mowers from you guys. Now why wouldn't he have said anything about this one not having one then? It seems like a good point to make that I might have to keep my hours logged since this mower didn't come with one I would think , wouldn't you? 😂 Like I'm thinking of finding out how to spin back one of the meters off the older cub cadet mowers here and put that one on this mower but I wish I would have known before I used it an not 20hours or so into the life of the thing... 😂 I can't see why they would have done this and not offered it at time of purchase and why no one that works on these things seem to know they don't have one on them lol?
@@FarmerBrad my manual has many references to check the hours for this and that but nothing to point to the fact that it was sold separately, does your manual actually say that? What year is the mower?
its a cost savings at the time to get the price a tad lower to sell to residentials but then its a profit maker for cub cadet to sell you the hour meter. make (business) sense?
If there's no hour meter, people can neglect the regular maintenance resulting in more sales parts to address what broke. $$$. I went to check my meter only to find oops...no meter and I likely have a good 100 hours on there already. Oh well.
I have a 2022 Cub cadet 48 inch riding lawn mower. .. and you really can't mow lawns for money with these mowers... Simply because the quality of cut is not good enough to pay money for..
@1jw298 I just put one on that goes around the spark plug wire. I don't care about total hours on the machine, just when i need to change oil, etc.. If I do get the factory one, it will only be used for maintenance.

I bought mine with my farm business tax exemption and TSC rewards discount. Saved about 1600 when I purchased it.

My 42" Gravely that cost me $5100 US or $8000 Aus $ has one! What it needs is Bluetooth! USB ports and a drink cooler. Cheers from Australia. Michael

Also, a little off topic, however the blade belt tensioner spring broke on my unit with less than 20 operating hours on it... just a thought......
Take a belt knife and cut out the square where the plastic piece pops out on original face plate and pop in the new meter.
Exactly,,,!!!
But but but then he can't use his new sticker,,,? lmao !!!

My xt1 said it came with one but it wasnt there. I called and they are on backorder
They are supposed to come with one?
I purchased my lawn mower from Tractor Supply and I ended up purchasing an hours meter from TSC as well.
I think they come with one.I called customer support and they sent one for free

I can't find a meter kit in stock anywhere
I can't even find anywhere to order this kit. It's out of stock everywhere, Cub Cadet included. 🤦♂
Have you checked your local TSC?
@@FarmerBrad yes.
Order it online from T.S.C.
