But I did get to see the Koehring 1266d in action.I watched one of them dig a huge pit that was just inches shy of 40 feet deep. That unit had a bucket of about 7.5 - 8.0 cubic yards. One of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen regarding heavy equipment. The 1266d had a standard operating weight of 130 tons.The machine that I watched was working on a waste transfer station in the NJ Meadowlands area in the mid 1980’s. The machine was basically excavating a massive disposal tomb for garbage.
Ran a 1466. Twin screaming Detroits.. pretty good machine for its time
Seen quite a few smaller units back in the 70's which the local utility companies utilized.
