Zerogateway is a software solution that helps individuals and small businesses accept free & unlimited payments on their website or web application with instant bank settlement.
From 2012 to 2022, commercial payment gateways executed the biggest financial fraud in India, wiping out crores of rupees and breaching the trust of small merchants availing payment gateway services. The scam begins with publishing online advertisements regarding free payment processing service, paperless onboarding, and 2-minute onboarding. Initially, merchants receive their settlement on time, but as the business grows, the payment gateway freezes their settlement, and then they never respond even if the merchant resubmits documents such as KYC, invoices, proof of order fulfillment, and any other document to establish the credibility of transactions in the merchant account.
Further, a timeline of 120-210 days is issued to the merchant for a full & final settlement; however, once that time elapses, the money is neither settled to the merchants nor refunded to the customers.
Due to a lack of understanding of the legal process, remedies, and expensive & time-taking legal processes, coupled with the fact that small merchants are all in one running the business and have no time for appearing in court dates, etc., no proper legal action is ever initiated against Indian payment gateways. Thus, the scam grew into a multicore enterprise.
Also, Indian payment gateways lack ethics, and in recent rounds of Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids on PayTM, PayUmoney, Cashfree, Razorpay, etc., it was found that there is an allegation that the services of such payment gateways were used by Chinese cybercriminals to collect proceeds of crime from innocent Indian citizens on the pretext of investment schemes (ponzi scheme) and instant loan apps.
As technology is limited to a handful of individuals & corporations, it is creating an absolute disaster. Due to a lack of reliable & trustworthy payment gateways, many small businesses are not able to start, or their businesses are at a pause, causing a financial impact & also an opportunity loss to customers who would otherwise be able to consume the amazing products & services sold by small businesses.
