I've been building models since a young man I'm 47 now alot people around me always said you could make a lot of money selling those but I tell him how much for one model that I would like which is very reasonable they say maybe not.
No, you just make a RUclips modelling channel and you're a millionaire 😂 some people ask me about becoming a full-time RUclips modeler! That is very hard to do, and will take years to build up to this level if possible. And you also have to be very skilled and lucky and able to teach effectively. Selling models is more reasonable, and this is something I never considered. Great discussion!
That's what I love so much about Poland, at Christmas time it's so beautifully decorated, everything is lit up for Christmas. I love that Happy new year for your family and you Greetings from Germany
I've never sold a model, I feel like the effort and the time I spent with is doesn't worth a few bucks. But if I should do it, probably I'll made a perfect fit Tamiya without extras, instead of a large and complicate model with fgs and aftermarkets
The amount of time and effort put into building a model, nobody would pay what all that time and effort is worth. I've spent over a year building the model I'm currently building. How can you put a value on that? It would be thousands of dollars, and maybe one in a million of individuals would actually pay you what you have put into it. The only realistic way to sell models is to slap them together fast and sell them at a price the average person would pay. Even then the quality and craftsmanship would be poor.
Thank you for this video,i am high school student who makes scale models, but i cant buy good quality equipment or good quality kits because lack of my budget i have,i was thinking about making models for sale so i can finance myself
Good advice! I have seen some excellent models for sale on ebay and I have also seen some very poor ones. I would never buy a built model because I want to build them myself. I would never sell a built model unless it was to make room on my shelves but it easier to buy new shelves at the moment.
Twenty years ago I made a model for a friend's cheap-ass movie and got paid $100 bucks. It was an Antarctic base camp like in The Thing. I also was an evil scientist in another of his movies. He made decent horror movies with some T&A in them as well. Good times. For pro model work it's either high money clients who want a model of their car/boat/plane or businesses who want a model of their building/development.
I sold a model of the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier to another kid in our neighborhood for $5 in 1978 when I was 13 years old. That's about the extent of my professional modeling carrer LOL!
I sold a whole bunch of my models on eBay for years and years you’re correct you can only get about double the price of what you put into it but I didn’t want to keep all those kids in boxes forever so you gotta do what you have to do
Makes sense, I suspect the logistics is easier to for packing and shipping. Man, I'm going to give this a try. Maybe even small vignettes. Could be more economical....

Great video. This is very interesting topic, since there are many modellers out there who wants to sell ( not to mention the quality of some of those builds ) For me, it was all bout building and learning new technics and create new projects and they serve mostly as a gifts for my friedns. Recently i started to sell some models and dioramas but I think I have wrong attitite towards making money and I treat models as a "dust gatheres" and in my oppinion it is better to sell cheap and dont have piles of panhters in my room :D So in this case it is making some money back from models but it is rarely a profit, but on the oter hand, I am glad that I have space for new builds, customer have model and all the expirience and fun stays with me. It is like someone would pay you extra money for gym exerices :D
As I said many times - each modeller has his own philosophy - one will sell and another will collect all his works. :) Many thx for your comment mate! :)

It depends on personal view. This is why I said something about it in the beginning of my video. :)

Hell building those damn tracks just would want you to charge triple for doing that shiaat! Some tracks are crazy 3-4 hour builds.
What are you talking about? :)

Yep, I remember your kits on Ebay. :) Thx for your comment Glen! :)
It's easier to sell figures - 90 - 200mm, colorful Napoleonics
Probably you're right but Im not a figure painter :)
Try it, you might like it. And it's another way to improve your skill-set.
