Lyrics:
Neon lights, draw me like a moth to a flame
Mama raised me right that just leaves me to blame
When I get a little sideways on a honky-tonk tear
I'm old enough to know better but I'm still too young to care
Cowgirls with an attitude boots and tight blue jeans
Take my mind off doing right and doing other things
When the weekend's gone, I won't have a dime to spare
I'm old enough to know better, but I'm still too young to care
Monday morning, I wake up with a hammer in my hand
The boss-man yelling something at me that I don't understand
I don't know how I got to work, but I sure know I'm there
I'm old enough to know better, but I'm still too young to care
When the eagle flies on Friday, well he barely leaves the ground
I've got just enough left to get dressed up and head back to town
Boss says, "Son having all that fun won't get you anywhere"{
I'm old enough to know better, but I'm still too young to care
Monday morning I wake up with a hammer in my hand
The boss-man yelling something at me that I don't understand
I don't know how I got to work, but I sure know I'm there
I'm old enough to know better, but I'm still too young to care
I'm old enough to know better, but I'm still too young to care
This song would become a hit again today 30 years later if it were played on radio. I miss this era of country music.
Ain’t good country singer out there to sing it . Better this way
Check out Zach Top he's bringing it back!
@@MattMullins-jt4gkI think he may have meant if they'd play the original? That was just how I read it, I could be wrong. I was wrong once back in 1980! 😂😂😂😂
@@jacobenyart4075yeah he is, he is awesome!
I was happy I grew up in that era.
Im 77 years old and I remember when Wade made his debut on the country scene. He was a very talented guitarist and he had a sound that was stamped on the era. As I remember, it was early 90s. He has never received the attention and radio play that he should have. He beat cancer in his 40s and is still around today, although you dont hear his songs. Its a shame. Best Wishes Wade. I still listen to your music.
🍀 Oklahoma boy keeping country country,🍀
Saw him live in St Louis at Little Bit of Texas
Great performer.
Same here RH. Wade came to our little town last year and I felt like I was probably his biggest fan there. I still listen to 90's country every day and don't listen to anything else. What a awesome era for country music it was! The instruments really had drive. I haven't listened to new country radio in 20 years and I'm 37 years old.
Growing up in rural Ohio, this was one of the radio favorites. Keeping country, country.
He played lead guitar for Johnny Lee for about 6 or 8 years before getting his own record deal. And I agree, his guitar sound and his over all sound was and still is very good! Radio should have treated him alot better. I miss country music now, I wish we still had it around.
The 90's back when country music was COUNTRY music!
The funny thing is, in the nineties, people complained that it wasn't country enough
@@jeremydhaston That's because they didn't know what was coming in the next centuary.
Yeah it was work hard play hard mentality in those days.
I met Wade a few years back when he was playing a joint about like the one in the video. Mingled with the crowd between sets like he was just another guy there to see the show. He seemed to be a really nice and down to earth guy. Wish Nashville hadn't gotten so far away from this sound.
He's playing in my town Quincy, Illinois for July 4th weekend 2022....FreedomFest!
Camp lejeune you're n n Hancock incorrectly you better get this s*** straight
He is playing at my local fair tonight! Jefferson county wv
I've seen Wade ten times and met him four times including tonight, he is still the same humble and kind guy he's always been.

Wade Hayes deserves more recognition

JCB yes he does he rocks my world .he makes me happy when he sings I need some more his music .where are some more of his hits.a fan V
Go wade and you do Oklahoma proud
Listening in 2021 and still love this stuff from the 80s and 90s
Yes!
2023
How long have you been a great fan of Wades music?
I'm closin' on 71 YO, pushin' 35 in my mind. Yeppers, this tune could still be my personal theme song..
I am Gen X 74. This was real country back into my 90s youth. It was my greatest generation that I was in.
I'm not American but I just love country music..... Something that teaches you about the little things in life to cherish.....
God bless América and country music
Thank you my friend and God bless all of you and your country.🙏
God bless you, my friend!
Amen brother God bless ya hoss !!
God bless you and your country men
Well, most country music isn't American any more either.
Wish thay would play music like this on the radio now instead of the same 10 pos songs on repeat .
you can't find True Apple Country on the radio? around here it's 105.5
Call your local station and call them out on their bullshit music .... I did and now theirs a throw back song every ten songs lol
Spellbinder what’s a radio?
It's every genre like that too. Country could help rid the issue if they'd do a classic country genre like classic rock has. Problem is still play the same playlist like classic rock does with shitty acdc or def leppard every other song.
Go on you tube
Sadly his career end to soon
But I believe he is better now
Why they don't still play his songs instead of this stuff they play.
Because Old country is dead just like old rock and roll. They're both going out together.
@mattbrigner4815 God bless you Matt, for seeing what's really goin' on, BROTHER. This just hit me, trying to celebrate my step grandsons 19th birthday party. Yeah, I'm a music head, but there's a whole ltta truth to good ol' country music. And that's sayin' sometin', coming from an old hard rock and roller!! Peace out and keep on keepin' on!
Nashville went woke, murdered country music. That town isn't even recognizable anymore. Even ruined the ' Opry.
Is it me or is this when country still sounded like country?
I'd go a long with that ya
True - I think it still does, if you find the right singers / musicians.
For radio..this is country
The shit that's on the radio now...is not country!!!
Go check out Cooper Alan. He’s got this voice and some great new music.
Back when country was COUNTRY!
Wade not only is a great singer but can play the heck out of a guitar.
This man should STILL be a BIG STAR! At least as big as Brad Paisley... He can play just as good, and his voice is better!
Love
Underrated CM singer
Hello 👋
How are you doing?
Back when you could tell a Chevy from a Ford without looking at the logo.
I Can Tell. I'm Chevy all the way. And Yes The Chevy bow tie helps for the un seasoned.
Yep. Own two classic bowties
jjj
Exactly!
Bow ties or menstrual pads? 🤔
I was just reading, "dreaming out loud" about Hayes' career, and wanted to see his breakout video. I couldn't believe it was filmed at Gruene Hall, the oldest dance hall in Texas! It's not far from where I live and I've seen many fantastic acts up close there...the town itself is a mecca for tubing down the Guadalupe River that runs through town, and it has great places to eat. If you can, get to Gruene and see what Texans are really like, they love their music and are irresistible...
He’s from Oklahoma
Yep...he's from Oklahoma. Bethel Acres Oklahoma in fact. I was 3 years ahead of him at the High School there.
Clint Black: Hey, what’re you doing here!? This is Wade Hayes, not Clint Black!
One of the most underrated voices in all of country music. This man can sang!
Voices??! He was a god on county guitar! Next to Paisley.
I just don't understand why he never did anymore, never seem to go any farther? Seems he could have had decade after decade....hit after hit but I don't remember anything else he done?
His voice sounds like a man in his 50s I was shocked to see the video.
@@extremeocd1184he survived cancer which assisted in slowing his career. He still tours, just saw him two weeks ago in Laughlin, NV with Billy Dean and Shenandoah. He’s still great and hell of a guitar player.
@@foxtrotthree569 Thank you for that information. As I read it, I noticed my maiden name was in the comment. You just don't hear or see it much, unless you're talking about one of my ancestors....Homer Laughlin...as in the china company.
The late 80's and 90's had the best country music IMHO
May Jesus continue to bless you 🙏❤️🦋
When he looked in the rear view and saw those flashing lights from the cruiser, the look on his face was, "I do not need this." Great actor as well as an excellent singer.
i met wade hayes at a deer hunting club 16 stands no charge, invite only if you recognize dont ask questions place. we were signing in at 3 am and we werent going to our stands till 5 so we had a few pots of coffee and chatted about life. i knew exactly who he was but couldnt say or ask him. it was so frustrating. didnt exchange numbers or anything but had a great talk. the only reason i get to go there is im friends with the owner so i hunt whenever i want. singers and actors come in there all the time but hes the first one i actually got to talk to for a couple hours. talked to alan jackson for about 10 minutes but thats it. the clubs in s.c.
This song goes out to those of us that are old enough to know better but are still too young to care!
This is real country music
I'm 46 years old, Im' french (Grrrrrr I'm not American!!!!!!) And I love your country music!!!! God bless America!!!!!
+Sespoirs 34 You are awesome man. But be proud of where you come from.
Hey buddy red, white, and blue. Not only is that America's flag but France has red, white and blue as well. Allies!
+Sespoirs 34 checkout my 80's - 90's COUNTRY music list.
Chase, thanks you, but it 's not easy to be proud when you have a président like the fat Hollande and when your country say come on to the islamists.... I' ll be proud Only if I was english or american.
+Sespoirs 34 Aww I love your French culture. I wish I could speak French though. Hang in there!
This was one of our favorite dance songs back when my husband and I met in the 90s … and it’s still one we dance to often - especially when our band buddies play it live at our local Texas honky tonk.
Love this song. My anthem, since I am 61 now ! Still, old enough to know better, but, to young to care ! Yee Haw....
63 and right there with you
Lol really funny
We go see him every year for the last 5 years at a little joint in Weirsdale, Fal named the Orange Blossom Opry. Just saw him this past Saturday night! Class act!
I saw this guy in concert years ago,, I miss him,, love that deep voice
Thank you Johnny lee for the “inspiration” of this song 🎵
Lord I lived the drinking and driving nails the next day with a hangover. I was ok if I made it past dinner which was actually in the middle of the day back then in Georgia. This song brings back memories. Some good and others not so good. Thank you for posting this video.
Congratulations on achieving sobtiety, good sir.
Omg I had the biggest Crush on Wade Hayes in my 20"s. I thought he was good looking.
Hello 👋
How are you doing?
DANG. 90's country kicked. No wonder I liked country music back then.
web amen brother
We're did it go wrong today's country is pop
Saw him live when this song was first released in East Texas. Happy birthday, Wade! Heard the song on the drive in this morning and it instantly brought me back to 1994 and The Pines!
+Rocky James Wow. That's cool. I only got to hear it on the radio back then - WYNY 103.5 FM. Great tune.
I agree the 90s was the best don't listen to the radio much these days because the music just not the same at all
None of the garbage on the radio today will ever come close to this! Great music from the last great era of country music
None of this new poptry as I call it will ever compare to the old country
Dam right Jessica !!! your darn right there
+Rocket city joe Jones today's country music isn't garbage
"Luke Bryan is good country" boy shut your mouth and go check out the 1900s country
He never got the credit he deserves
Who is still listening to this in 2024
pray for Wade...he's been fighting cancer...
Oh no!! I didn't know that! Prayers for him. 😢😢🙏🙏🙏
THIS DUDE'S GOT A GREAT VOICE FOR COUNTRRY MUSIC..I REMEMBER I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK THE FIRST TIME I HEARD THIS SONG & I LOVED IT...STILL DO...
Wade Hayes can play the hell out of the guitar. Never knew this ha
Country music is really the best music you can listen to. Love the lyrics and musicians! Truly the ogs !
Wish wade was still on the radio
I remember seeing this dude in concert when I was 8... I walked up to the stage waved and he threw me a pick... I still got it and still rockin Wade!!!
❤️
@Wade Hayes always and forever brother
This is real country music !
God, I LOVE that steel guitar rip!
Best fiddle riff ever.
I was scrolling through the comments to see if anyone else thought the fiddle part kicks a$$! Love it!!!
That fiddle kicks some serious ass in this song. I love it!
I am old he looks like a baby by one I would have flirted with in my younger days😇
Back when music country music told a story, and you could understand the meaning, becuase it was real life. And that was fun. This is what we are missing. The country music industry can't sell music to the young kids any more becuse they took the country out of the music. Hip Hop my A_ _. Bring country back and they will come.
This was my favorite song to sing as a little kid I'm told by my parents and grandparents, and now that I'm an adult, I still love it!!! It really fits for me and my life!! Hahaha! Country 'til I die!!!
It's the only way to live. Love from Texas.
Saw Wade several years ago. He opened for Joe Diffie who opened for Brooks & Dunn. Wade was great. It was a hell of a show.
Hi WAYNE thank you so much for coming to Dumas Texas for singing for us fans. We had a fantastic time its was the best birthday I ever had with my family and friends ❤ hope to see you here again. Stay safe God bless 🙏 ❤ 💙 Your Biggest fan ❤ Pat and Gerry
Hello Patricia
When country music was country. Miss 90s country.
Wade is my true cousin from bethel. Wonderful singer.. he had one damn good band and the fiddle player was ole boy down the road! I'm very proud of him. I'll be in Shawnee brother next week and swing by to say hi.
That ol boy can play a mean fiddle
When this song came out I had a crush on Wade Hayes.
Don't forget May 29 is Wade Hayes day!
I used to live this way
There's nothing even remotely close to this talent in today's country music. And man can this guy play guitar

Well... actually... the lead guitar and solo was played by Brent Mason, not Wade Hayes.
A good ol boy
I love all his music and I just found out today that he is my second cousin
Great singer. Miss his music
My daughter got the privilege of meeting him and getting his autograph when he was first starting out. This song reminds me of that time. He has/had a great voice.
He definitely had that "country voice" that was such a hit....so great!!! It'd be great today if everyone would go back to what music used to be! Too much change for me! I'm old and set in my ways!
I was born in 1995 and my middle name is Wade. My mother named me after him and Ty Herndon.
Wade Hayes I. Love his music I went too his concert in 197 at Billy Bob's here in ft.worth,tx he's one of my favorite country singers love his music , I'm Jeanette nail
This song was literally the theme song to a whole relationship. God I miss that man. ❤️Best time of my life even with the rough patches
Hello Christy
Great song
I am almost 58 and I still love this song. I am old enough to know better and still to young to care! Literally!!
I'm with ya. Heck yea.
💀 yet ?
Just used the title on a telemarketing call yesterday when they asked my age.
Well I'm in Alabama and if music was still this good it would be a better place to be.
52 and still learning this lesson
LOL Thanks Art's
This is the best music ever
If I were a country singer Wade would be the singer I would want to sound like! Oh, one other thing ...I would want to pick the guitar like him too!
Nashvillle NEEDS artists like him. Brad Paisley isn't the only one..there is room for more! They need to bring Wade back! If they would listen to the public...We wouldn't have rap/Country on the radio,,,I don't even listen to it anymore...garbage!
Wade's the real deal for sure haven't heard from him in awhile 🇺🇸🔥👍
Wade Hayes!!! I had an "old" casette tape--- from when I just had-to-get: Dreamin Out Loud.... Absolutely Wonderful!! A Big Part of My Life, & what I Believed In!!
Just had to look Wayde Hayes up today----to remember, & be Thankful---for him & his mu
What a great song! Makes me want to go honky Tonkin and hit the dance floor!
Oh yes back in the day
The lyrics, rhythm, super guitar work, good voice in his songs convey real country life and feelings. Great country songs. Glad to hear his super music in his concert this yr.
As someone who's never listened to country, I must commend this performer and song.
70's to 90's was golden years of country music.
2024!! I'm here rockin with ya Wade!!! 🤘🤘🤘🎸🎸🎸
I dedicated this song to My Mommy every year for her birthday. I miss her tons. June 20th will be 4 yrs since she left us for heaven. I love n miss u Mommy 4 ever in my heart

THIS IS MY THEME SONG MAN!!!
Wade hit #1 in Billboard, 2-25-95. God bless!
Have you ever been to any of his concerts?
Didn't know he had stage 4 colon cancer, I have throat cancer as well, he's a cool dude
I didn't know it either. Prayers! 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Prayers for you also.🙏🙏🙏🙏
So he is sitting in the audience at his own show? I always said Wade Hayes was underrated thats some impressive stuff.
0:16 love the design of the tailgate
I met this man yesterday at Staunton, Virginia's Happy Birthday America celebration. We had a nice conversation. He's a little older now, and he's still just as down to earth. Keep going Tony! You got this!
At the time this song came out It was the story of my life!!
Met him in 1991 or 1992 at a new years eve party in McCloud Oklahoma. He was still in college. I belive his grand parents were still living up and around McCloud OK at that time. Him and his family was living in Tennessee at the time. Really cool young man back then. Glad he made it to where wanted to be in the music industry.
Remember May 29 is
National Wade Hayes Day!
Good ol' Gruene Hall! Might just head on up there this weekend.
This guy is EPIC on the stage! Saw him in Swanzey, NH, about 3 years ago outdoors show was awesome.
Prayers are with you brother..... Get well soon Wade. ... God bless you
great song. good sound. talented musicians. well done
Lived the words to this one in my 20's
