thanks again Johnny.. you are the deckologist of the mowing industry.. you don't candy coat anything.. appreciate your vids.. all the best with the new mower buddy..
Love my Ferris 2100 61". I use them at work taking care of 3 cemeteries, park, fire station and a 9 acre shop area. So I bought one for my 3 acre yard. Thanks for all the information.
Be VERY careful leaning out the fuel mixture. You can run into overheating issues especially on air-cooled engines. Then you've got bigger problems - busted rings, ruined pistons, metal in the oil ruining everything it touches... on and on. Pull the spark plugs and let them tell you the story: too white is too lean, too dark may be too rich, a golden brown is usually a good sign. Love your videos. Especially when it comes to rating equipment. The Good the Bad or the Ugly... you pull no punches! Love it!
Hey johhny...would like to see an update video on this mower. let us know what you think as you start mowing the spring growth. My one concern with the ferris is that we mow Bermuda here, and some like it cut short. If I remember correctly, the lowest setting on that mower is 1.5 or 1.75.
I also have a simplicity citation with the same engine but no fuel injection basically the same thing also, I think the simplicity version is cheaper than what you paid for this awesome mower.
thanks for the info on the bagger attachment/removal. I have to switch from bagging to side discharge depending on the customer or circumstances. Case in point....I took a call today and the customer has a broken window. Ugg....I didn't see it when we left the property, but my side discharge scag walk behind was most likely the culprit.
I am picking up an IS3200 with Vanguard 37 efi and oil guard system tomorrow. I'm interested in the ferris collection system but would also like to have an operator controlled chute. Have you experimented with any that could be used in conjunction with the collection system or could easiyl be removed when putting the collection system back on. Enjoy your videos. I also am a solo operator.
Im glad my 3200 is a little easier to change the oil. You can not beat that Ferris ride tho. Ive learned a lot from watching your videos. Thanks for sharing!
I saw a video Dan did, he spaced the blades to be even with the bottom of the deck, it left fewer stringers. There is obvious risk involved, but if you know your lawns... Have you ever tried this? Maybe not make it even with the bottom edge, but getting it closer? Or do you have properties that would just make this a bad idea? Just curiosity on my part...
Your Vapor Lock: Gasoline starts to boil at about 100°F. The inside of an enclosed trailer can reach much higher temperature than 100°F. Also, winter gas, purchased between September to April, will vaporize at a lower temperature than gasoline purchased in late spring thru the summer. Some ventilation in trailer, low & high, to create convection & maybe a fan would reduce the likelihood of vapor lock. So, mowers with a suspension are Ferris & Simplicity, Bad Boy & Spartan,... any others? Have you ever used TWEELS ?
I can't remember did you replace the float on the other rider? What was the out the door with and without the bagger? I am looking for something with a nice ride too. getting too old for the bouncy ride.
+Johnny Mow Having a early morning caught the kids cold moment, is it the coil pack if they get hot and are flakey they open up when hot and will not fire. I had this issue with one rider. I am reaching here in my sickly state. Happy mowing.
+Johnny Mow If the coil pack get hot it can work then flake out and not work. It is a easy test, pull the plug wire and check for spark when it acts up.
Hey Jhonny big fan of your videos always find them very informative and entertaining. I'm a solo landscaper based up north been doing this for a number of years now gearing towards expansion and expanding my knowledge to different aspects of the field. Started out with a toro residential currently using a bobcat xrz pro zero turn (Kawasaki 21 horse with zt-3400 hydros) with all stihl two stroke equipment. Just had a quick question for you if you got a chance regarding leaf cleanup in the fall. Currently searching for a bagging system was looking at the peco pro 12 bagger vs. the cyclone rake tow behind unit. The peco bagger runs close to $3000 while the cyclone goes for about $2000 I'm leaning towards the cyclone as 1) it seems like it will bag damn near anything 2) the bagging capacity is like 410 gallons like 12 trash cans 3) also has a huge impeller and tubing. Website link for cyclone bagger for additional info m.cyclonerake.com/Z-10.htm. Also have an echo 60 something cc blower but planning on buying a redmax ebz8500 for fall just to expedite leaf removal from the beds. On the fence with the new br700 and the redmax 8500 as gas is real cheap and I know that's one of the big advantages of the stihl. Would appreciate your thoughts keep up the great videos!!!!
I have the same engine on my ferris. Can you tell me if when you start cold, does it hesitate for a second and the run but sort of not idle very smooth ? Or does yours start right up and run smooth start to finish. I am used to kawi carb motors that run perfect but this 28 efi is giving me problems. Thanks..
I'm gonna do some experimenting this weekend on my own lawn. I wanna see what will happen if I try using the bagger without the 2 baffles. Then, I wanna see what will happen with side discharge having the baffles in. I'm not expecting miracles with either set up but if it's something i can deal with in either setup, I'd rather not have to keep taking those on/off. It def is a piss poor design.
+Johnny Mow yea I already found that out. Was very impressed. You bringing that trailer up? I got the saw ready lol, we'll cool that trailer right down and stop that vapor lock
+Johnny Mow Very possible. Before you mess with the fuel mixture tho I'd just pull a plug. If it's running rich that plug will be black. If it's too lean that plug will be white, I'm sure you already know that.
+CountrysideLawnNY they actually look normal. I'm frustrated with it. Somehow fuel is getting by the float in transport. Maybe it's bouncing to much back there😡
Why don´t you guy´s run diesel engines ? is gas not expensive in the states. I live in Scandinavian and gas price is a bitch around 2 $ pr Liter. My ferris 5100 have a 3 cyl Cat diesel and i just love the torque on that engine, no problems..
Not in the USA anymore epa regulations caused that cat 3 cylinder to be out of compliance. I went to look at one to possibly buy one and that's what the dealer informed me
Son of a diddly, that suck´s. It´s the best, it just need fuel and air to run simple. I always had problems with my previous lawnmowers with petrol engines, carp/electric problems ect ect.
+Johnny Mow what's normal interval? Our Kubota diesels have 100 hour but we run John Deere 15/40 plus 50 oil which allows a 50% increase in interval so we change at 150
thanks again Johnny.. you are the deckologist of the mowing industry.. you don't candy coat anything.. appreciate your vids.. all the best with the new mower buddy..

Nice! The shocks look cool. I love seeing all the cool features of the big machines!

Good review man. Good luck with the new mower.

That sucks
nice video...love my Bosch tools also!
Nice mower Johnny !! What hydro gear transaxles did it come with ?? 3100,3400,4400,5400 ??? How many gallons of fuel do you burn on a 8 hour day ??
4400
That mower is a beast I have drove them and sold them

Randy Brooks how are you liking the 3200 an 37 EFI vanguard? Any issues? Thought on the oil guard? I'm considering the same. Thanks

So what could the laid down look of grass be from?
When the tires roll over certain types of grass it presses it down and the deck does not have enough suction to pick it back up
So will smaller tires help this?
+Landon Reisdorf not sure

Ever think of venting the trailer more instead attempting to fix the mower from vapor locking?

Not yet

KD0LRG if it was a coil would it do it all the time it's been over a year now and only does it when it's hot
+Johnny Mow If the coil pack get hot it can work then flake out and not work. It is a easy test, pull the plug wire and check for spark when it acts up.
KD0LRG 9,200 w/o bag
What size deck?
Suspension moves over bumps deck does not scalps like crazy
Hey I was wondering if that bagger has ever clogged up on you? I
Never
+Johnny Mow that's a hell of an answer haha thanks man
+alex peters it never does high wet no problem
leaves?
Never
The Ferris is the most comfortable ride in the industry?
No lie there
like your video's
how does the deck do in the wet vs the turbo force deck
It's close I would copse Icd but it's close
+Johnny Mow choose

Pelco because u can use it during the year

Got that many hours on already it needs an oil change? You'll have it paid for in no time!
10 hour change first time
