A lot of the fighting v US troops was organised by Iranian sponsored agents. :/ The myth of the French & UK - Sykes-Picot treaty post WW1 is just that. A myth. Iraq as an entity was already part of the Ottoman Empire. The borders set up by the Sykes-Picot was also formulated as much by Russia, but the Russians conveniently, are left out of the discussion. Sykes was dead by the time the treaty came into force. But, the point remains, that the centuries long collapse of the Ottoman Empire was as much responsible for the scattered provinces and the mosaic of the modern Middle East as much as the Sykes-Picot treaty.
