@@animecuredmydepression6700 i thought about this the other day!! and in a way, the artists do have some sort of 'photobook'. i have the ariana dangerous woman album and behind the cd is a smallish leaflet of her dangerous woman photoshoot (around 5 photos) and a tracklist.. the members in kpop have roughly 5 pages each on average in a photobook, for example seventeen's 'an ode' each member has 5 pages roughly. photobooks are only 'books' in kpop because there are more than one member hence there being a book (:

I am obviously not a graphic designer nor do I know much about design but an album that really made me fall in love with the whole theme was ASTRO’s all light album. I have been a fan of them for a few years but in my opinion it is one of their best albums. The photo book is hard cover with these beautiful illustrations of plants on them and the photos inside are really beautiful. The outside casing can be a bit annoying since it has holes it it but I really think it is such a beautiful and well packaged album xx. I also really enjoyed this video and seeing a professionals point of view to these album designs.

this was such a fun video to watch omg. i myself only ever buy an album if i love all the songs AND i like the album design. i just realized that i share many of the same preferences u do. wayv's album, as well as neozone, have been on my to buy list for a while, and now i have a couple more to add on. also, completely agree on the slip cover thing. i was mind blown by the first (and only...for now) slip cover album i owned, onf's you complete me.
i feel like u would really enjoy bang yong guk's self titled album. it's this spiral bound book with a scrapbook/journal concept, even including the notes byg made while writing the album. being a self titled album, it fits the concept so well to have us see his process as a musician reflect his development as an artist and human. the whole album feels really personal and intimate. flipping through it is almost as if i'm holding byg's notebook in my hands.
the visual design also fits the music thematically. the pages are printed to look distressed on purpose, and heavily leans into the vintage film/polaroid aesthetic. the notes and drawings look frenzied and in disarray, while many of the photos are more somber. this juxtaposition perfectly captures the kinds of tracks on this album, constantly fluctuating between softer jazzy hip hop vs. hard hitting diss tracks.
the album itself is also very well made. the spiral binding makes it easy to flip through. the paper quality itself is nice, heavy enough that i don't have to worry about accidentally ripping or creasing it. altho i was disappointed that the front cover was not hard (could fold/bend easily), the back cover is a super thick, durable and sturdy cardboard, which protects the cd very well. the cd itself is in a protected pouch inside the back cover (which u mentioned u like!).
i'm by no means a graphic designer, but even i can see the evidently huge amount of time and care put into creating this album (not to even mention the music itself). sorry i wrote a whole essay, lol. byg is my all time ult and i may be a little biased, but i was genuinely so proud and impressed with his first solo album.

I love simple/ minimalist packaging I think it makes the album look sophisticated. Personally I don’t like slip covers/ sleeves because I find that they don’t hold the contents very tightly and things fall out easily. My favorite style of packaging is book style such as nct dream’s we boom or BTS’ map of the soul persona. I also do not like box packaging but I can tolerate it (Ateez or MOTS 7).

I love videos about album packaging but I feel like people don't really want to make them as some poeple take it very personally if you are not 100% positive about everything regarding their faves (even if the are your faves as well!!!).
I'm a fan of simple packaging style as well. Two things that usually make a packaging a win for me is: thick photobook with big pictures (as a person who doesn't collect random things in albums the photobooks are my favorite thing about album packaging) and easily accessable CD (as I do play my CDs and enjoy it a lot). Book packaging does both great ^^
I do really like slip covers as well (if they are not too thight).
Would love to see more videos about your thoughts on aesthetics of albums (maybe like a video about your favorite album packaging-wise from every group you collect, I don't know ^^). A lot of people talk about how hard it is to come up with content without buying new stuff but I think most of k-pop collectors making videos have already accumulated a lot of video material in their houses xD
Please stay healthy and safe, Maria.
P.S. Jooheon is back with the boys and I'm so very happy. I've missed him so much. I know you did too. Let's hope he stay healthy for a long time.

My absolute favorite size of Album would be stray kids I am series or just mixtape because they are tall but not too slim and always 2 of the spines of the versions go together very well. That being said ofc the clé series as well.
For hard cover my favorite size would be twices feel special or treasures the first step series!

I personally love book packaging the most, but i do have one qualm with it, and i mostly see it in sm packaging. They tend to put a bit thicker paper in their photobooks and glue them all together at the end, and they end up being very 'rough' to flip through. You can't really open a page fully without worrying if the page is going to loosen up a bit and even maybe fall out, and also you can'y look at the pictures quite properly when you can't open the album fully. I prefer jyp book packaging the most bcs you can open it nicely and see the photos inside without worrying about the pages.

I really enjoyed this video! It was interesting to hear your perspective and technical take on things^^ I also like the Follow packaging, I think the member covers look so nice with the 'watery' slip cover - that's what motivated me to collect all seven member photobooks.
5:11 I never seen the EXO Obsession photobook before but wow it's gorgeous! The pictures with the thermal imaging filter look so cool, it adds a more twisted and dangerous vibe to the concept. Also the covers of the member(?) photobook(s) 5:47 are stunning - I love how mysterious they look and how it's different angles of their face.
7:45 Personally I don't know if I like the outline of the oval images either; it reminds me of a school yearbook and vintage teen magazine which can be a bit tacky lol but somehow I think it adds to the edgy, old-school biker gang vibe of the concept.

Can you make this kind of video again? I would like to see it :)

I hate when an album is just a collection on postcards. For example LABOUM's "I'm Yours".

Or when Rainbow released two parts of their studio album and the parts were packaged extremely different.
Or when APRIL released "The Ruby" and the album was this weird foldout thing. I can't look at the photobook without taking the disc out first. xd

The album packaging that I hate the most will always be jewel case. That’s why when Red Velvet released their albums like tprv, pv, i wasn’t too happy about it 😔😔😔

If you detach the postcards and put one on the front cover (with the slip cover), it will look like a magazine cover.

I just randomly came here - i guess the video is good but the "UM" that repeats alll the time annoys so much!

If someone wanted to do this type of packing on their own where would they even start? Lol
