I have used these hinges on quite a few projects before but have always used a router jig to make the mortises. I am now in the midst of a desk build and considered using these but there would be no way to use a router. I had just given up on the idea and then you posted this... Thank you!
Yes please more instructional videos. I just got some of these hinges and searched RUclips for tips and tricks, and this video helped me. So thanks! …and carry on.
This is by far the best woodworking book I have ever read, *TopFineWoodworking. Com* . My woodworking teacher endorses it to all of his students. I am impressed how authors managed to write very detailed topics. I`m surprised by the material and didn`t have a tough time following the lessons..
I was just about to start a small project doing a double opening bemch/dining table extension and had absolute blank mind how to install the hinges with limited tools. I have all the ones you used and your instructions were perfect. Thanks mate, i really appreciate your video. A big hello from Sydney Australia.
All good stuff! For those that might not be quite as precise with their drilling and chiseling, I humbly recommend that you check out Sugatsune hinges. They don't come in quite as small sizes as the Soss, but they do have a broad range, and unlike Soss hinges, the Sugatsunes are three-way adjustable, which allows you to overcome slight positioning errors when cutting the mortices. For anyone thinking of using the BIG Soss hinges (room door size and above), I STRONGLY encourage you to check out the Sugatsune ones, as adjustment issues with large doors can be very painful with Soss hinges and their fixed geometry.
Michael, niche type instructional videos done by sharp/intelligent and/or professional guys like you would be a very nice addition to RUclips.

Unless you try out the innovations, you cannot learn something new. And you are always working to teach innovations. And you always produce innovative studies and ideas. Thank you for sharing. See you. greetings.
That tape trick, that's totally how I go about things. Actually you kind of do things generally the way I like to. Very practical, logical solutions to problems. Love it. Nice design there, btw.
Michael: Thanks for taking the time to do this video. I have a single narrow frame we where were going to reluctantly mortise 2 butt hinges. All the other cabinet doors are hung with Blum concealed. Space restrictions on the 45 degree face frame ruled out the Blums. Only have to do 2 204 hinges, so this technique will get the job done! Nice walnut cabinet, BTW.
Wasn't sure about these hinges....if the install was too tricky. Lucked into finding your vid and I'm good to go! Excellent video and instruction. Well done.
Loved this video! Super helpful, easy to understand and great video shots of the process. Also love the approach you chose to install the hinges using a hands on style. Refreshing over the typical craftsman flex of pulling out a dozen large expensive power tools to get a small job done. Keep the videos coming please!
Very glad RUclips recommended you. I've been watching a lot of your other videos. You're great to watch. I don't even plan on using SOSS hinges on anything and I watched the whole thing. :)
Well done! I'd encourage anyone unfamiliar with Soss hinges to learn how to use them for their best work. That's an exciting project you have going. I'll be eager to see your future videos on it and look to see what you've done on horizontal tambours. Making a nice, tight 10 minute video like this must be more difficult than those live-streamed time-wasters some of the guys are doing but I refuse to watch an extra 45 minutes of nonsense to discover their hidden gems.
This video was great! I may not have tried these hinges in a future project without having seen the install first, and would definitely like to see you do more like this.
I enjoyed watching you craft. The hidden hinges are exactly what I require for my personal project and will, with the Grace of the Father in Heaven, help bring that Flushhh Plushhh look and feel to my project that we all seek. Yeshua's blessings and thank you again.
OMG thank you 🙏! I have and odd fitting where I cannot remove the stiles from the cabinet and am unable to use other hinges due to framing behind the door. This helps immensely and provides a solution to my problem!
How do you figure out what distance from the edge the hinge needs to be set at in order to achieve a perfect 0 and 180 degree alignment? I notice at 7:44, the hinges are far from centre and more to the left side, but the gap between the free hinge and the door seems larger than the gap between the side of the door and the embedded hinge, so this would make me think if another piece the exact same as the door was put there, there'd be a slight gap between both pieces when folded on top of one another and then one would be slightly lower than the other when open. I'm wondering how best to get the right measurement so both pieces would be fully flat when closed and then at the exact same level when open :)
Exactly what I'm trying to figure out. My Ranbo hinges didn't come with any instructions or template. No luck finding any info online either. Edit: it took a little thinking but I got it. I laid the hinge open close to where I wanted to mount it. I slid it closer to the edge until the center hinge (now exposed) is now aligned with the edge, plus maybe about a millimeter or two to allow for some clearance. You're able to adjust slightly once you've got it installed so no biggy if you're off a little. I did have to dig a little deeper so there was no gap. All I used was a hole saw, chisel, tape measure and square. Really digging my new hidden room.
As a master woodworker ver 40 years, I just tried this to assess it's accuracy and was really hoping it would work. Wife wants me to install these on six 3/4-in thick cabinet doors and the existing Soss 204's are 1/2 inch thick - so that leaves 1/8-inch clearance on either side. I tested this out on one of the old cab doors she took off and in short - NOT! Doing this by hand at least on such a thickness doesn't leave any margin for error. Will definitely access the Soss 204 template and just rout them out.
hello, I really liked your video, could you tell me how these hinges can be adjusted please, I mean, how do you adjust the setting with that type of hinge? Thanks a lot
It seems like this would be a great candidate for using a router to cut the mortise. I’m curious if you think there would be any issues with using that method, as long as you can fit a palm router inside (as you mentioned at the end)?
That's the typical way of doing it, but I don't have a plunge router in my shop, and even a palm router would have trouble with that curved corner. Thought I would share this method with people if they find themselves in similar situations. Jon Peters has a bunch of videos doing it with a router.
I really enjoyed your video. Clear instructions, easy to follow. And good tips on making the jig for future uses. For me, I found the electro-crap background music very distracting and in my opinion, it takes away from the video. Please take this as constructive rather than a negative comment.
The part I don't understand is, after having created the mortises on the door, how do you get the vertical alignment on the mortices correct for the cabinet itself so that they match the spacing on the door?
Michael, thank you for the demonstration using Soss hinges. I am looking for an invisible hinge method for a drop portion of my wet bar. I need to have a countertop that runs across a doorway. When not entertaining, I want top drop the doorway section down alongside the left or right side panel of the base cabinet. The thickness of the countertop will be about 1.5 inches solid hardwood. Could the Soss hinge method (heavier duty version) apply in that case?
Hi, great video. I do have a question if this Kind of hinge would work on a folded door cabinet they will also serve as a Murphy desk? I am trying to figure out a more elegant way to have a hinge, the ones that I keep finding are very bulky
One thing I don't get is when setting up the jig, you didn't specifically space the paper guide a certain distance from the jig fence so that the hinge would be centered on your stock. Were you not concerned or just didn't show that?
Being a retired Machine Shop educator, with specialties in Woods and Metals, I wish I had you as a student. You did a great job.

oh, now I see why this fella was recommended. watching this was a delight.
Mikey rarely disappoints.
I really like this type of video, especially when it is not about something, where there are already a ton of videos (like euro style hinges...)
This was a great video. I would like to see more how to videos on the small parts of a project. Then an overall full project review.

All your videos are great, but these are particularly helpful, as your subdued style makes it pleasant to learn.

That tape trick, that's totally how I go about things. Actually you kind of do things generally the way I like to. Very practical, logical solutions to problems. Love it. Nice design there, btw.
That was very helpful. I’ve avoided those hinges for a long time because I found them to be such a struggle. I appreciate it!
The first coffee of the day always taste better while watching your videos 😋
I used these hinges to make a door to cover my safe. Worked perfectly!!

Really like this style of video. Big builds are cool, but it’s nice to learn new techniques

Bro, first time watcher, fantastic video!
Great video! This made installing these much simpler!
Very glad RUclips recommended you. I've been watching a lot of your other videos. You're great to watch. I don't even plan on using SOSS hinges on anything and I watched the whole thing. :)
Instructional videos are always good.
Yes very good information I really appreciate everybody who takes the time to teach and instruct those of us who are not quite sure of themselves.
I really do like this style of video. I really want to see what other tricks and tips you have up your sleeve as well.
I also like to see “how to” videos. Even though I barely have tools and do something by myself. I just enjoy to learn these kind of things
Same. And even better when it's about innovative and rare (but practical) items. I'd easily lose track of time just watching.
thank you, i could not find instructions in french ytb , nobody really talk about this type of hinges! kiiss from France, love your channel! ;)
Very interested in seeing the rest of this particular project, not to mention really loved the content. Thank you very much.
Nice detailed video. Nailed the reveal. It would be great to see more videos like this.
I appreciate how level you have made your camera in comparison to your work surface (at approx. 9:55). Great work! Love this style hinge
Awesome instructional video, please do more! Yours great instructor !

Glad to hear it! Thanks!!
Yes sir. Unique how to's are often very helpful.
Very Nice! I have some but have not had the confidence to install so I think this video and the idea of a template I may try next opportunity!
What a beautiful cabinet! Thank you for demonstrating the Soss hinges. I have limited tools so this was really helpful!
love your style mate! precise and sleek
Awesome video, great explanation and exactly what I was looking for.
Please do more of this, this was great. Nice.
I enjoyed watching you craft. The hidden hinges are exactly what I require for my personal project and will, with the Grace of the Father in Heaven, help bring that Flushhh Plushhh look and feel to my project that we all seek. Yeshua's blessings and thank you again.
love the type of the video please continue to do these.
Great video! Have a couple of small SOSS hinges to do. This seems to be better than the router jib, at least for the smaller ones.
Nice vid! Gives a good insight how to go about this job.
Love the cabinet! This was a really useful video as I am about to fit some of these hinges and I was really nervous
Really like these detailed how-to videos.
Yes definitely a great video format on one very useful topic. Keep ‘em coming, thanks!
Great video. Great explanations, great camera work. Editing was top notch.

I have a Makita detail router and I will try these both ways. Very great style of video. Yes please to the detail then overview.
Keep the videos coming, like the doors you make nice design.
Nice job! And yes definitely more of these!
Very interesting video, please make more of them! I have never seen this hinge before, I love it!
Great video bro, you never fail to keep me super enganged!
Definitely wanna see more videos like this. Loved it.
Genau das habe ich gesucht!! Thanks a Lot 😃
Great video. If you remember, what are the depths the drill goes? In can't find it in my manual
Been waiting for this video !!!!
Beautiful work. Awesome video. Wish I could have had you as a mentor.
Nicely done. I would like to see more of this type of video. Thanks,
Awesome. More please. Thanks!
Awesome work Michael! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Thanks Fred!!

love this style of video.. .learned a whole bunch... love the cabinet it looks spectacular
Nice work. Beautiful cabinet.
excellent video, keep it up, you have the right formula.
I love your instructional videos! For the neophytes among us, could you please discuss how to accurately measure for wood cutting...?
Yes instructional & building things. Thank you for sharing. 👍👍😊
Super helpful video, thanks!
Very cool. I like this style. It would be fun to see how you made the awesome herringbone tambours too.
hello, I really liked your video, could you tell me how these hinges can be adjusted please, I mean, how do you adjust the setting with that type of hinge? Thanks a lot
Thanks, really well done video. very helpful.
Definitely would like to see more instructional type videos.
This video saved me! Thank you!
Thank you for the tutorial
Can you use sauce hinges for face framed overlay cabinets? (ie not the inlay doors that you have shown)
Perfect video. Very Helpful.
Thats a beautiful table
That cabinet is stunning. Would love to have a tenth of your skills..
Very good presentation! Can you help me to find a replacement hinges for the old vanity inset door 5/8 inch thick? Thank you!
Great information... just in time for the humidor build that I am going to start
Looks awesome 👍
Wow. Awesome job!
Yes we like this type of instructional video. You have incredible skills and we appreciate you sharing them with us

Very helpful and love the tutorial format. Wish I knew this technique a few months ago.

is that walnut veneer? It looks good.
Very helpful! They give such a slick look that is perfect for this piece!
Yes I like the instructional video version.
Nice one Michael !Thx . I am guessing somebody will be suggesting what about a router jig if you use these alot ?
yes more please
