That's a loyal Brother! I loved what he said about believing in his brother and seeing that he was different. He went out to work and support his brother's dream and help their mother. Say what you want but that's DOPE as hell to me.
Very dope. Paying all his teams legal fees etc was dope as well. Sucks to have a case against you when you didn't do anything except know some ex gangster.
No doubt about it. Rap unless your Kendrick and a few others don't make real rap music anymore due to the pressures of white owned major record labels. Rap right now is a big joke.
Gotta give Murda Inc respect!! They've been around and put in work through the golden era of hiphop (mid 90s - mid 2000s) Worked with and put out legends!! Real hiphop label!!
Dat_BA06_Guy 100% cosign. Anyone who says early-mid 2000s was the golden era was a kid during that time and didn't know what true golden age hip hop sounded like. 1986 - 1996 was the golden era where the artistry, originality and the music was at its purest then the big record labels took over.
what are yall 5? go stand and face the corner! and you (men) stop with the girly ass cartoon faces! make yall look moist and sus! smh I gotta git the fuck off social media!!
QuadrantBottomHalf he was part owner of Murder Inc and help to fund the label so Irv didn't give him a job. Without Chris Gotti there would be no label
It's pretty much safe to say that the golden age of hip-hop was definitely when the rappers "owned" their own record labels and the most of the major record companies (like Interscope) were only the distributors. The rappers had a lot more creative freedom and control back then and it showed in the music they released back then. Today, it is much harder with the major company mergers and today's music marketing - quantity/$$$ over growth and quality. It has now gotten to the state where upcoming "white" rappers are sounding more mentally evolved and intelligent while most of the black rappers are still rapping about the same nonsensical stuff for the last +10 years - including "Eatin' booty like it's groceries...".
Chris is family to me, him and my Uncle caught a case in 89 Greek fest Jones Beach attempt murder, he was in my sister's wedding as a grooms man, and he use to bring me to Irv attic studio in Hollis and the hit factory having cypher's with Black Child and Tah and was the reason I started Money Gang Macks out here in Queens.. Salute..
The ability to have such foresight to discern those who are successful is a gift in its self i hope he didn't squander it , i would also say it takes great introspection to admit others surpass you.
I seen Irv Gotti Djing for Jay-z in 96 at club Hunka Bunka in Sayerville NJ. Jay ripped it , did the whole Reasonable Doubt album. Dame was his hype man. He did Ain't no Nigga last, everybody thought Foxy was gonna come out and do her verse. Left us all hanging. But a great show when I was a teenager.
Chris Gotti interviews are better than irv gotti.. I think it's irv's demeanor that make it seem like he's doing the most when he talk. Chris is pretty laid back and a straight shooter we talk.
Ja Rule really can Rap, & I think he's a good dude. I feel like I can see through all of his "tough guy" frontin' in his videos, but I do think he has writing skills. Outside of that, Ashanti could have been any pretty young black girl who could sing. Props to them for doing the impossible, & beating the feds in court. It's my personal opinion that there success was a total fluke based in the decline of true hip-hop, & the rise of corporate Rap bullshit. Looking back, I'll give them thier respect for capitalising on there situation.
That comment about the stability of jay z success and sales still rings true today. It’s arguably the best business plan. Consistency is key. As Connor Mcgregor once said “precision beats power and timing beats speed” or something along those line haha
That track that they're all on I think he referring to is "Time to Build." Thats a classic track with Mic Geronimo. Mic Geronimo feat. Jay-Z, Ja rule, and DMX. Geronimo is the only one who never blew up, crazy............
Yeah Mic Geronimo was mad Slept on, Clearly one of the Standout MCs of The Early 90's, his "Masta IC" Track is still my shit especially the remix with Lost Boyz
love em or hate em irv has done a lot in the hip hop game,,,,jay,,dmx and rule were 3 of the biggest rappers there were at the time of the millenium,,,,,to be a fly on the wall during his career,,,I have mad respect for him,,,,imagine a group with jay,,,x and rule
Maddi Jane. This is the name of his first artist on his new digital label. Artist keep 100 percent of the profits from the album and I think he makes money from tours and other things the artist does depending on the contract. Sounds pretty cool and it gives a different balance to the greedy 360 contract.
DJ VLAD , please do interviews on rappers that are mentioning Mexican/Chicano Culture, 1.The Games Song "Spanish" 2. Kendrick Lamars RUclips music video "Compton State of Mine" he mentions Mexican Compton gangs, T-Flats , 155, and 70's 3.YGs Album tittle "My Krazy Life" and a song he did titled "Vato" 4. Ty Dollar Signs tattoo (on his face near his eye) which is 3 dots together that mean "Mi Vida Loca" aka "My Crazy Life" . im asking cuz I feel its important I need to know if my Culture is being played out just for record sells, being stolen by rappers , or if they really have relations and showing love
so wheres the percentage with the millions n millions of records they sold n millions n millions of dollars they made n the millions of haters like YOU?
+amacm69 I don't think irv, Chris or ja are broke, ja just changed his hustle, Chris is probably just chilling and because your an og telling stories don't mean your broke.
All them labels flamed out. Roc, Ruff, Murder. Big budgets are gone and directors loss .work. Ja was the only successful artists on Murder. Same as fabolous Deseret Storm.
+Michael S. not even 20% of those earnings go to Murder Inc though. It's the distributors, corporations and other labels that sell those records that earn majority.
I loved Mic Geromino's first album. My dad had it playin' one day and I was like *oooh, who is that*? Became a fan right then and there. I hate that it didn't work out for him, but I understand why. He was too similar to Nasir and when you look in his eyes, he didn't look like he wanted it enough. No hunger and charisma in his eyes. As far as Ja Rule goes, when he first came out, all I knew was _Holla Holla_. I bought the album and never listened to it. Just wastin' money because I had a few extra coins to spare. After that, I just enjoyed him on tv and radio when he used to clog those outlets day in and day out. Wait, so I'm confused. I thought Payola was illegal? Ya'll did it openly and freely. Oh well, too bad Jay-Z came in and shut ya'll down. That brotha was not playin'. There's somethin' kinda handsome about you, Chris. I don't know what it is..... Anyway, good interview, fellas.
I was 11 when I bought Vendetta a week after it was released. Going to school with that tape on me at all times. Even with the J card just so I can read the liner notes all over again.
You're right, lol! It also didn't help that Murder Inc and Def Jam was under investigation as to whether Kenneth "Supreme" McGriff involvement with the Gotti brothers were legitimate. That definitely can fuck with contract renewals, they basically got blacked balled. Negotiations for distribution fell through with Capitol Records and Universal Mowtown, and ironically Interscope Records (where rivals Eminem & 50 Cent were distributed by).
Would Murder Inc have sold that many albums or made that much money today? Probably not due to easily being able to stream and download music. Back in the early 2000's there wasn't technology to easily stream music and no smart phones or tablets.. people had to buy the albums to listen to music which helped the artists make money.
That's a loyal Brother! I loved what he said about believing in his brother and seeing that he was different. He went out to work and support his brother's dream and help their mother. Say what you want but that's DOPE as hell to me.
According2MAC that's loyalty
Very dope. Paying all his teams legal fees etc was dope as well. Sucks to have a case against you when you didn't do anything except know some ex gangster.

2016 dj vlad golden era
+June Amarillo It was the music. Artist wasn't going to one producer for a beat. Nothing really sounded the same back then. The culture was diverse.
No doubt about it. Rap unless your Kendrick and a few others don't make real rap music anymore due to the pressures of white owned major record labels. Rap right now is a big joke.
Irv and Chris are geniuses. The industry needs more execs like them

I had to Google to make sure ole boy aint have a split personality. 🤣🤣🤣
Now that's a good brother right there. Held his brother down until Murder Inc got popping and then Irv returned the favor by giving his brother a job.
QuadrantBottomHalf he was part owner of Murder Inc and help to fund the label so Irv didn't give him a job. Without Chris Gotti there would be no label
QuadrantBottomHalf he was his manager after all
It's amazing how much Vlad is unaware of in rap game history, but insists on talking.
You right , I hate that shit, and I heard he sit their with a laptop in front of him.
+king esseen He always shows his culture vulture flag in interviews like these
Jay z has always been way overrated to me, but Dmx was the real deal.
two words: reasonable doubt...love x, nothing he ever did can match RD...too many verses coded with too much sense and pain
+Marc Regal Interesting. I can't think of a Jay z album or song that changed the world of hip hop or had a big impact.
both dope af
+Harry Balls true dat, reasonable doubt was before rap completely changed tho
Yessss

Rappers actually have more freedom nowadays honestly. They got wack budgets tho.
Funny, people still think murdah inc was soft. More people need to see your comment.
I hadn’t really heard Chris Gotti talk before but he comes off as mad cool and real personable! Especially compared to his brother Irv.
