Is it a maple or a Japanese maple? Maple and Japanese maple can do the same, but there are some tree species that are difficult to varieties of Japanese maple.
@@bonsai-shinshi it's 'Beni Maiko' maple grafted on top of some other maple with greenish leaves. I'm thinking of making graft spot just 1-2cm above the ground (it's 5-7cm right now)
@@AntonKoba You can layer the'Beni Maiko' maple, but it is not 100% successful. Recently in Japan, layering of maples, which is said to be difficult, such as "Shishigashira Maple" has come to be performed. There is also a method of attaching seedlings to the trunk, which is introduced in another video.
Nice work but apparently you never read the research of Peter Chen, winner of 20 gold medals in bonsai. He found that if you do a layer like that you should wrap the area in sphagnum moss. He also uses moss to bring trees back from near death by potting them in nothing but sphagnum moss. You would have probably gotten rooting from everywhere instead of 3/4 of the trunk.
Really love the technic... love the root too
Excellent work as always.. 😊 Do you ever do Ebihara methods on maples? It would be great to see such work.
hail to the real artists. i would love to have such a nice little tree, and you still made a masterpiece out of it.
Thank you for the insight, great looking bonsai. If only I could find this wonderful cypress variety in the US, I've looked and haven't seen any.
It exists but definitely is rare. Keep searching for 'sekka' Hinoki cypress
Sss inspiration for me to work my little bonsai.
Nice vid, very informative. You started the air layer the prior year, correct?
You are the best tree surgeon I’ve ever seen! Magnificent. Thank you sir for documenting so well!
Excellent work!!! can we do this with a Fycus Mirocarpa or a Tigerbark?
You definitely can but in tropical places large cuttings work well for ficus too.

Is it safe to do with maples? I have a maple that's been grafted and the graft makes a bump on the tree so I want to make it as low as possible...

Is this a hinoki cypress? Do you know if its easy to layer hinoki cypress if this is not one?
Yes it is, Chameacyparis obtusa 'Sekka'. Sekka (in japan 'sekika') is a very compact dwarf variety.
Bom dia, Flor do dia!

¡Mal trabajo!.
What a waste of time
