Hey guys! I just wanted to point out that I mixed up my wording in this video, the highlights of the curve are actually the whites, and the whites of the curve are actually the highlights. So from bottom left: Blacks, Shadows, Midtones, Highlights and Whites are at the top right hand corner. I'm so sorry for the confusion!! 💛 Aside from my wording mistake, it all still works just as I explained it.
Hi Julia, I'm doing your technic as shown in the video using Lightroom but the final result is different not as great as yours, I assume it could be happen due to I'm using the entry level camera 📸 D5500 and you are with SONY A7III.. Is it..?
I just paused the video to comment that you are one of the best in Lightroom tutorials. I'm a beginner photographer and I wanted to learn how to edit my photos. I tried Lightroom one week free trial, and it was so daunting at first because I had no idea what to do. And because of that, I wasn't so sure I'd get the subscription. But once I started watching your video, I gained a little bit of confidence. So thank you so much, Julia!
This is about the 10th tutorial I've watched on curves and it is literally the only one that has made sense to me! You have such an incredibly clear and simple way of explaining things. I would love love love a tutorial on the specific colour curves. Thank you so much for your time and effort! ❤️
Ugh i love these tutorials so much, I already know this but I just love the way you explain things and listening to you talk to passionately about it unlike other tutorials it’s so refreshing 🌸
I don’t have any questions but I just want to say thank you very much for these tutorials. Because of your skills and tutorials, I’ve grown more confident in editing my photos in Lightroom and end up really happy with my finish edit. Thank you once again.
how did I not discover your channel earlier?:(( your talking is so relaxing to listen to, and we learn so much from this as well! these kinds of the tutorial are superb! thank you so much for taking your time making this kind of video and others as well! love from denmark
Thank you very much. It really helped. You explained with just the right amount of depth and yet still keeping it simple enough. You have such a pleasant way in doing so. You are not only a very talented photographer but a very talented educator too !!!
This was such a helpful video! Thank you for taking the time to explain each point on the curve. I feel that most RUclipsrs just rush through it, assuming that we all know what they're talking about. The difference between the before and after is just stunning!
Looking through your videos I can’t find a detailed RGB tone curve tutorial you mentioned possibly making. Is there one on your channel? I’d love to watch it! So helpful, thank you!
This has easily been one of the most helpful videos I've ever watched on how to work in Lightroom. This just leveled up my lightroom game! definitely do a video on color curves, I've been experimenting with them and it's pretty difficult.
Omg finally... thank you so much. Neva really understood it. Usually leave it alone. This is the 1st video really explain it very smoothly. Thank you darling
Wow! Thank you so much! I was struggling with understanding the tone curve and this literally simplified it so much that it's no longer daunting! A million thanks!
The drop down menus that offers linear, medium and strong contrast are helpful. After you make a choice you can still tweak your edit to your own personal taste.
Great video, the best one I saw explaining the Tone Curve. It's the only one tool in Lightroom that I use very unconsciously because I never really knew how it worked
I really love how straight you discuss this curves topic. This is the only video that I understand how to use curves in lightroom! thank you so much for this Julia! :)
I really love your lightroom videos! :) it would be great if you could do a bigger video or even a playlist about how to use lightroom for beginners, the most important things to know in the program etc.
Nice start to tone curves for beginners! I would like to point out however, when adjusting the red curve, you're adjusting Red/Cyan (not blue). And when adjusting the green curve, it's Green/Magenta (not red).
Yes I'm so sorry! I'm so used to calling the "brightest" part of the image highlights from using the sliders to save the highlights while editing, that I called it the wrong thing in this video, wish I could reupload it 😭 It all still works the same way I explained it though, just with those 2 words mixed up!
Yeah u just fumbled a bit there in highlights n whites. But it's ok. U corrected it. N what s nice explaination Julia... Really made easy to understand a BIT COMPLICATED FROM OUTSIDE tone curve. Thank you n Regards 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I would love to see more with the colors. I use the tone curve quite just about all the time but haven’t ventured into the colors yet. Would this compare to split toning and white balance correction?
I'd recommend to use the history panel to demonstrate only the last changes (e.g., modifications to the blue channel in the tone curve) you've made, instead of toggling the whole tone curve control. Instead of clicking at specific points in the history, you can also nominate a certain point as a "before" point and then just toggle between "before" and "after" by pressing the "\" key.
Thanks for that! I have the questions in my mind of how those people created a similar tone and cinematic look throughout their entire profile for the longest time. now I understand.
Really great tutorial!! But, yeah you had me confused there about the highlights and whites until I read your comment 😅 thank you! And I hope for one more specific on the colour curves ^^
I love this tutorial! I have always wondered how to use that curve. 😄 especially like the mattening effect and the cinematic effect! Will definitely try this. :) Thank you so much!
Yay!! I'll make a more detailed video about it soon, there's so much to go into with the colour channels I didn't want this to be a 30 minute video haha 💛
Thank you! I absolutely love your videos and tone curves is something that I have been struggling with for awhile. Would love to see a more in-depth video about it!

Great work, Julia! I really enjoyed the explanation.
Thank you for your awesome educational video on Lightroom's Tone Curve!
At last someone that explained it. So simple, yet so hidden.
I just paused the video to comment that you are one of the best in Lightroom tutorials. I'm a beginner photographer and I wanted to learn how to edit my photos. Thank you so much!
Finally someone who thoroughly explains how to use the tone curve and why to use it
no wonder why my photos look so bold because I'm exaggerating the curves so much, ahaha.
thank you again!
I've learned subtlety is the number one thing when it comes to curves. The smallest change can have a huge, huge difference.
@@aspected i cant agree more😌
no unnecessary long explanations -> simple and good!
Ugh i love these tutorials so much, I already know this but I just love the way you explain things and listening to you talk to passionately about it unlike other tutorials it’s so refreshing 🌸
That's such a big compliment, thanks so much! 💛
Here also same ❤️ @Julia
ugh
I don’t have any questions but I just want to say thank you very much for these tutorials. Because of your skills and tutorials, I’ve grown more confident in editing my photos in Lightroom and end up really happy with my finish edit. Thank you once again.
Wow this is such a lovely compliment, thank you!! Makes me really happy to hear :D
Hi Julia I’m a beginner Iphone photographer. Your simple and concise explanation of the tone curve has made me really understand. Thanks heaps 🙏🏼🙏🏼
This is probably the best tutorial one get for tone curves 🙌
how did I not discover your channel earlier?:((

Thank you very much. It really helped. You explained with just the right amount of depth and yet still keeping it simple enough. You have such a pleasant way in doing so. You are not only a very talented photographer but a very talented educator too !!!
Saw the shorts video, now watching the older full video. Thanks a lot, I honestly had no idea :)
Just paused the video to say Thank You So Much! very well explained and easy to follow.
Yes please, do a separate video for the color channels! That would be super helpful!
The best tutorial on the tone curve I’ve watched
This has easily been one of the most helpful videos I've ever watched on how to work in Lightroom. This just leveled up my lightroom game! definitely do a video on color curves, I've been experimenting with them and it's pretty difficult.
Thank you so much!
Your explanations are so crisp and clear - thank you!
Thanks so much :D
Omg finally... thank you so much. Neva really understood it. Usually leave it alone. This is the 1st video really explain it very smoothly. Thank you darling
Tone curve always alluded me. Thank you so much for breaking it down and simplifying how it works! 💕
Thank you!
I was experimenting with tone curve today. I overdid it too much, this video will help me next time
Awesome editing. Thanks for showing us this technique. Will try this for sure.
Wow! Thank you so much! I was struggling with understanding the tone curve and this literally simplified it so much that it's no longer daunting! A million thanks!
So glad to hear that! :D
Great video Julia! Please do a color curves video. :)
Eli Infante didn’t you watch the second half of the video?
LAZY DOG Yes she asked if we wanted a more detailed dedicated video of color curves. :)
Eli Infante sorry.... I zoned out after 7 minutes. That’s the extent of my attention span 😂
@@aussie8114 attention span of a fish for me lol
Thank you and I will! :D
Thank you so much, Julia, for such a simple, clear and instructive video !!! Helping me to become a better photographer !
The drop down menus that offers linear, medium and strong contrast are helpful. After you make a choice you can still tweak your edit to your own personal taste.
I found this video super helpful! I never touched the tone curve and that is going to change. Thanks Julia.
Great video, the best one I saw explaining the Tone Curve. It's the only one tool in Lightroom that I use very unconsciously because I never really knew how it worked
Another great video Julia. Your tutorials have been so helpful and easy to follow. Thanks so much 😊
I really love how straight you discuss this curves topic. This is the only video that I understand how to use curves in lightroom! thank you so much for this Julia! :)

Most useful editing vid I’ve seen so far. Thanks!
I really love your lightroom videos! :) it would be great if you could do a bigger video or even a playlist about how to use lightroom for beginners, the most important things to know in the program etc.
"Small changes, makes big difference" life advice too haha.
but that is very true!
Soooo helpfull! And too the question... Yes, please a video about the Red, Green and Blue curve!
Nice start to tone curves for beginners!
I would like to point out however, when adjusting the red curve, you're adjusting Red/Cyan (not blue). And when adjusting the green curve, it's Green/Magenta (not red).
Another great video Julia! Thanks 🙏🏻😊
WHY HAVE I NOT DISCOVERED YOUR CHANNEL???? Subbed. Great stuff!
Love your tutorials!!! Learning so much about lightroom, as I am new to it.
But isn't the white section on the right side and the highlights between whites and midtones?
Loved the video 💜
Raíssa Shoya yeah it is, I think she may have them mixed up
Yes I'm so sorry! @@juliatrotti You have a fantastic way of explaining right to the point, thank you. Your tutorial is very clear, and we all got what you meant.
