The criticism of Home Assistant is very valid. It's not quite fully plug and play, but if you can get past the initial learning curve, it is so rewarding.
Nice review video. I migrated recently from Athom's Homey towards Home Assistant and I must say I like both. Homey has integrations with a lot of 3rd party vendors and has multiple solutions for Hue for example and it has almost all protocols available (Z-wave, IR, RF, BT and Zigbee). It is quite user friendly as well so that helps. Home Assistant on the other hand is complicated at first (even for someone with an IT background), but when you are used to it, it's great. There was a very interesting home project I saw a guy make called the internet time machine. He built a little router with a tiny computer inside of it that connected up to the way back machine. The router had a knob and an LCD display that allowed you to change what month and year it was connected to. It would trick any computer connecting to it to get its web pages from the way back machine instead of from the real internet. You could literally dial in what year and month you wanted to view online. It was for intended for use with retro computers, so you could view the past web on old machines.
That's a pretty fun computer. I like the concept. I wish those web archives were a little better. Most are missing a lot of content. They are still fun. I look up Afro-Squad stuff on occasion on them!
