Even though I had heard “Heard it in a Love Song” or with my bad hearing “Pretty little Love Song”, my brother came home from college and gave me a tape... and it had “24 hours at a Time” live.... announcing Charlie’s Daniels helping out, the first notes from Toy’s guitar, and Tommy’s bass solo and I was hooked....
I saw them in 1973 and 1974 at the Capitol Theater NJ, the first time they opened for the Allman Brothers and I was blown out on Orange Sunshine and remember Doug singing like nobody I ever heard on Take the Highway, they impressed everyone immediately and Doug is such a sweet soul, rock on brother!
I also graduated in 77. My mother sang in a gospel group and we went to a local radio station in Macon where they brocast a show including MTB. They were all so nice to us. Very respectful
Never heard you mention Paul T Riddle ! One heck of a drummer . I love how he play the cymbals . He knew what he was doing to add to the Tucker sound !
I meet Toy in Las Vegas in I think 1990 . We talked. He showed me the songs he wrote. It was the day before Thanksgiving. He was in Vagas. He had a sm tralior on nellas boulevard. He had a early in side his fenced yard, and a black vet, parked on the out side of his fence. He was driveing a small new white car. It broke my heart when I heard he had passed. He talked about his love for his family. He seemed to be a man that was always there for his family, when ever they needed him. I miss him and was honored, he trusted me and felt comfortable enough to talk to me. It could of been in 1991 a day before Thanksgiving. That's one time I'll always remember

I had the distinct honor of photographing the Marshall Tucker Band last night in Beaumont, Texas. They closed with “Can’t You See” and as I was packing up my photography gear Doug Gray walked to the front of the stage and thanked me for photographing them and gave me his tambourine. 📸📸📸
I play one of there songs about every day but I can not sing as good as Mr Gray first time I ever saw them was in 73 with Skynyrd and Allman and I think caned heat was there also.blue ridge Mt sky is my favorite it will be played at my funeral I hope it's a long time from now a long long time
True , the entire group in early years inspired me to play and try to sing like they did. I may never be as talented but trying alone put me in the best shape , musically speaking, that lifted my spirit! Made two of their appearances in BR. Great show, especially with Doug relaying stories about the Caldwell family when they were young. Funny, too.
I grew up near Doug's home and we knew each other from about age 16. during high school one of Doug's favorite sayings was "kiss my loo-tis-a-ble" he was quite a character.
My brother in laws sister moved down to a beach in SC not far from where he hung out at in the 80's and 90's with my Mom and I. We went to a bar and I told her that guy over there looks like the lead singer of the Marshall Tucker band. I guy that was a regular at that bar said it is. Do ya want to meet him. Hell yeah we said and you could tell he really like my bro in laws sister. They went out on a few dates and he would call the house and say hello and my name when I answered the phone and asked to speak to her and he would then usually come up and pick her up and they would go have a good time. He is a very nice person and it was a pleasure to have meet him. I noticed him cause I had seen them in concert a few times before so that's how I mostly could tell it was him. Like I said. He was extremely friendly and remembered my name but that was 30 some years ago.
I saw them at the Fox in Atlanta, Ga. I sat right in front of Doug Gray and was hooked on them for sure. That was the only concert I went to and stayed sober. Love Marshall Tucker!

It was my pleasure to work the Marshall Tucker 'Just Us' tour as a sound tech. In the strangest twist I experienced in 21 years of touring, I was the lighting director on the next leg because Sam Whiteside (MTB's studio engineer) finally took the band up on their offer to 'come out and mix the band. Great people to work with.
Great talent and NICE guy! I opened for MTB in the late ‘80’s. I asked Doug and Jerry Eubanks if I could have their autograph and they said NO! Lol! Then looked at me and said only if we can have YOUR’S first! I was floored! They really liked my playing at the band I was in.
Saw them around the late 80's in a small venue in Casper Wy, showtime was 8pm and heard they played all night!, regret leaving at 2 AM missed out for sure.
I never saw Marshall Tucker .. one of my biggest regrets in life and they were actually playing about 60 miles from me and I stayed home and listened to their music on the stereo.

Saw MTB in Madison in 1979 with the Caldwell boys and in 1990 at Mole Lake.Doug Gray's voice is one of the most distinguished in all of music, as was Toy Caldwell's guitar picking style.
I checked the setlist.fm website and I didn't find that the Marshall Tucker played a show in Ocala in 1974. If you are sure it was 1974, the two closest shows to Ocala were at The Bayfront Center in St. Petersburg, FL on September 20, 1974. That show also had Elvin Bishop and The Outlaws on the bill. The other nearby show was on October 1, 1974 at The Jacksonville Memorial Coliseum in Jacksonville, FL with Jo Jo Gunne also on that bill. Keep in mind that setlist.fm isn't 100% reliable (kinda like wikipedia), but it's better than nothing. Of course they've played many times in Florida over the years, but I couldn't find a date in Ocala. I hope that helps.

You did suck, the last two times I saw you...the sound changed and I don't know whether ya'll were trying to adapt to the newer generations...but when you lost the steel guitar and the fiddle, you were no longer The Marshall Tucker Band I so loved to hear.

I saw the Marshall Tucker Band at The Rupp Arena, in Lexington, KY, in 1980, while I was a student at The University of Cincinnati. Excellent-show.

Doug says he did the laugh to "Wipe Out" in '55. As far as I know, that song didn't even come out until '62. Is he confused or am I missing something?
