This is the best way to hang a paint bucket on a ladder that I have ever seen. Used it to cut in a 20 foot high ceiling this afternoon noon. Thanks!!!

I have learned lots of very useful tips from Aubrey. His video clips are the best I have seen as they explain things really well and you don't waste a lot of time waiting for him to get to the point. I have done painting and decorating in my youth with my husband and father in law. Father in law was a plasterer. So not exactly a novice. Now on my own I want to do a big job - the open plan lounge diner and stairs and landing also open plan from the lounge. He has given me the confidence to have a go. If I really cannot do it or get into difficulties I will just have to call the professionals. Thank you Aubrey. I think you are the best.

My dad use to use this method years ago, anything to not pay someone when he could make it himself 😄
And when you see that DIY stores charge £20 for a ladder limb that does exactly the same thing I can't blame him

Used to always do this, I do now use a ladder limb, as it goes into the holes of the rung and just easier to remove. Cant beat something for nothing though.

sounds like you are in England....not sure if they have it there, but here in the states we have dedicated bucket hooks that basically do the same thing as your custom job there. it hangs on the rung but is off to the side of the ladder so no issues. personally i dont like them, i use a Handy Pail brand bucket to paint out of. i can slip my hand like a glove onto their handle and still use my fingers to holdthe ladder if needed. 9/10 times i set my bucket on the top one or two ladder rungs though. The only flaw those Handy Pails have is you cannot hook them onto a ladder. Purdy has one that is able to use ladder hooks but i just dont like the design, seems cheap and can only fit a 4inch weeenie roller(sausage roller, small roller, pick your adjective) and i really like to use the 6in version which the Handy Pail fits beautifully. Just some tips from a painter of 25 years here in Kansas. (yes that Dorthy and Toto Kansas...i live 15 minutes from the Wizard of Oz museum.)

Great to hear you have found a solution to the problem. Ther are various complicated devices available over here in England but most decorators, like you, have their own methods. I am in the West Country. Must be a lot different from Kansas. Nice and sunny over here, could break the UK temperature record tomorrow. To hot for painting, it dries to fast and difficult to keep a wet edge. Hope all is going well with your decorating 😊

@@AubreysAbsoluteDecorating yeah i saw that it was about to break records over there. It was over 100 here today and if you factor in the humidity it felt like 107-110....it was miserable outside. Since its summer here we almost exclusively work outdoors. I just got done with a ten hour day outside and i dont feel so good....got some minor heat exhaustion i think. In the AC now so feelin better but man it was brutal out there today! Stay hydrated and dont be a moron like us, wait till its cooler!!! Seriously though painting in this sort of heat is dangerous enough painting on the ground, but get on some 32 footers and man does that make it seem hotter....climbing up and down, moving the ladder, dont screw up the paint job and make it look good....rinse and repeat till you pass out....wait, no..dont do that part! you'd think after 25 years of doing this id be used to the heat, but days like today nothing can prepare you for it. All that being said, im glad im not a roofer or concrete man. Take care of yourself and stay cool, i know how it feels to be in the sort of weather you guys are in store for. Probably gonna make it worse since you all dont experience that sort of heat often....people just arent used to it in that part of the world. Always nice to chat with a fellow painter, take care!

Would probably add that your side hook is safer as your body can stay closer to the ladder.
