Hi Tarlochan, I have just upgraded my circular saw as you did in your first video. It works perfectly. Thank you. Just later I have seen that you changed the back profile. I will keep it like in the first video, is good enough for me. Thank you for this tutorial 💪🏼👍🏻
This is by far the best upgrade for the worst fence ever provided with a table saw. I hunted down this T-slot aluminium and have completed the fence similar to yours (without the plastic inserts as I couldn't find them) and it is fabulous! Rock solid and bomb-proof. If anyone has one of these saws...I recommend Tarlochan's upgrade as it was easy, adjustable and rock solid! Makita....sort it out. It is an okay saw but that fence it comes with is crap! Thank you Tarlochan...your inspiration has changed my saw and my enjoyment in using it!
Thank You Ed Halson for coming back and sharing your wonderful experience, It feels really great to hear out that the upgrade was beneficial and successfully implemented. Thanks once again for your comments. Regards, Tarlochan
How easy is it to set the fence parallel to the saw blade? Is the original fence clamp enough or do you need to measure it each time to ensure it's parallel?
@@whkiess HI - the original clamp whips the fence straightish but for precision work I always measure anyway! I think a lot of brands do this (seen in makers videos) and it takes virtually no time at all. Tarlochans' system is phenomenally better than the piece of crap that Makita supplies. I also made an aluminium plate to replace that garbage one supplied also (it flexes WAY too much and in the end broke) and these two modifications have made the saw so much better! Tarlochan' fence is an excellent upgrade and cost me NZ$65 plus about an hour of my time to transform my saw into something that is a pleasure to use!
2017, I did comment on the problem of moving fence. I also designed 2 new fences. One using bolts with plastic solid knobs and the other same as NEW Makita 122556-4 Rip Fence. I emailed Makita NZ , Igor Pakhomov and Makita Corporate Head office Marketing and Design manager. out come is NEW Makita 122556-4 Rip Fence. It would have been nice as an acknowledgement if they have given me a new Rip fence. That is the problem with big corporates. Your video is very good. Thank you.
That same part is identical to the one used on the Carbatec 14" band Saw Fence Incidentally I don't have any problems with my Makita MLT 100 but keeping my eyes open I can see where I can make improvements thanks to you.. Cheers
Hi Tarlochan, I just finished your fence for my MLT100. It has worked out perfectly. Thank you for uploading this idea, and congratulations on a good design and well presented instructions. Cheers, Greg
Great to hear! Thanks for coming back and sharing your experience, It feels really great to hear out that the upgrade was beneficial and successfully implemented. Thanks once again Greg for your wonderful comments. Regards, Tarlochan
beautiful upgrades, just watched three of your videos before changing my mind buying this saw and you solved pretty much everything wrong with it. thank you very much tarlochan!
Thank You too for coming back and sharing your experience Allie, It feels really wonderful to hear out that the upgrade was beneficial and successful. Thanks once again for your comments.
OOOHHHHH that washer is a great idea! Continuing on from my comment on part 1 im quite sure now I really need to go for the bigger profile like you have because there is no way I could get the washer and a bolt in 2020 profile. the only way it would work is if I cut the bolt head off and welded the washer piece to it. which for me is an option as I have a welder however it's not an option for everyone.
This is a neat Idea... I have been pricing up the parts to do this Mod... has me inspired for when I buy this table saw to have it already to go.. From Radelaide 😎
Your ideas on improving the MLT100 are great. Can you please make a video on how to align the table saw blade parallel to slots which many of us are facing? Thanks.
I’ve stopped using my MLT100 because of the fence, no accurate cuts. After watching your video, I’ve now made my own fence and it’s brilliant. Just one comment (I’m not sure if you’ve covered this) when drilling the 40x40 profile holes check behind the table saw edge, there are a few places you can’t get to to secure the nut. Anyone in the U.K. trying to source the profiles I got mine from Matara.UK. Forgot to say I used my regular table saw blade to cut the profile, just take your time make small cuts. And use a dust extractor.
Sounds great, Thanks for sharing your experience especially using your regular blade to cut aluminum, I have never tried it yet, I purchased separate blade designed to cut aluminum, as I had other projects lined up where I could make use of the Aluminum blade.
Tarlochan What a great video you are obviously a good engineering problem solver. Would it be possible to for you to give the contacts for the supply of the aluminium profiles please
Tarlochan, great work do you have a sketch or PDF of the worm drive upgrade, the speed of operation and the additional support bracket are fantastic , well engineered, an idiot guide to doing the upgrade would be good too 😀
Trying to make a zero clearance insert, and do something with the mitre fence/sliding side table, which are rubbish. 10mm tracks make this table saw a challenge to find anything that fits. I’ve seen a sled made on RUclips which has standard t tracks inserted so you can use clamps etc., mighty try to make something along those lines.
Below are the Material / Hardware list, which I have used in this project. 1. 40 X 80 MM Aluminum extruded profile, 830 MM length - 1 No. 2. 40 X 40 MM (45X45 recommended as per Part 2 of this video) Aluminum extruded profile, 765 MM length - 1 No. 3. M6 X 40 MM (M6 X 45 MM as per Part 2 of this video) Hexagonal Bolts and Nuts - 6 No. 4. M6 Spring washer - 6 No. 5. M10 X 110 MM Hexagonal Bolt- 1 No. 6. M10 Washer - 2 No. 7. M10 Eye Nut - 1 No. 8. M6 X 70 MM Hexagonal Bolt - 2 No. 9. M8 Washer - 2 No. 10. Profile Seal strips - 6 Meter 11. 40 X 80 End Caps - 2 No. 12. 40 X 40 (45 X 45 as per Part 2 of this video) End Cap - 2 No. 13. Profile Handle with Allen head bolt and nut - 1 No.
Excellent solution! Best wishes from 🇧🇷
