...and there ain't no mixture that will give you back your youth No mystic machine that makes the sand turn to gold Like there ain't no magic word that holds you back from getting old ...
Frans Krassen burg, Jaap Eggermont, Peter de Ronde, Rinus Gerritsen, George Kooijmans, Barry Hay, Cesar Zuyderwijk Geweldige gezellige jongens en klasse muziek. Theo S.
Actually Kooymans (singer) wrote this song for another band. Their producer saw the hitpotential and made them record it. It's not their favourite song. Although nowadays they play a llot old songs, this one never makes it to their playlist.
I had to visit this page to pay my respects to the band. I just learned they are disbanding immediately, due to Kooymans having ALS. Best wishes to him.
Hard to believe this is the same band that brought us "Twilight Zone" and "When the Lady Smiles". And fun to see those 1970s clothing style. And of course, it's a nice song ;)
George Kooymans sung this song again when he performed with Vreemde Kostgangers with Henny Vrienten and Boudewijn de Groot. He played the same instrument like in this video
Golden Earrings were supporting Spinal Tap whose Flower Power hit 'Listen to the Flower People' was at Number 1 in the Dutch Charts. At at open air concert in Holland Tap's drummer was decapitated by the sail of a windmill
The drummer is Jaap Eggermont, and you see on the keyboard Rinus Gerritsen! Not Eddy van Halen! Cesar Zuiderwijk drums after 1970 in the Golden Earring!
@peperudi the singer in this clip and in Buddy Joe (my favorite song) is George Kooymans, he is born in 1948. The lead singer is normaly Barry Hay, on drums Cesar Zuiderwijk en Rinus Gerritsen on bas and keyboard.
This was there earlier period, Golden Earring had 2 periods, first period with singer Frans Krassenburg. After he left and Barry Hay came to replace him they started to make harder songs, like twilight zone and Radar love.
The lads were obviously having a laugh with this one... Probably egged on my the success of some of those silly sing-a-long tunes that top the charts on occasion. At this point Jaap Eggermont was still on drums (he would go on to produce the global hit 'Stars on 45'... remember, that cool medley of Beatle tunes? 'We are start on 45...'). After at least one more drummer (for their '8 Miles High' period they got Cesar Zuiderwijk and became a 'rock' band... 'Radar Love' etc. was their new standard.
@vampire4000 Thanks, I googled them out; amazing career indeed and impressive songs. Their 80s' are slightly too dark for me but they are still performing!!!! (sadly in their 60s - I can't believe it!!!) What is their lead-singer's name in this clip and in Buddy Joe?
@vampire4000 I checked Blind Love out - impressive! Thanks. And so is Love is the Only Magic. What was the 5 May 2010 concert with G. Kooymans' participation about?
Doesn't sound anything like the Golden Earring that I know, though I recognize three of them there (definitely not Cesar on drums). Funny to see Barry as guitarist.
+Nathan Milliron It's not Sieb Warner, but Japie Eggermont, who later produced 'Stars on 45'. This was a hit in the summer of 1968 and Warner joined in 1969. He lasted only about one year and played on the album 'Eight miles high".
@PlaceSoFarAway I agree. The 60s bands have a particularly rich output which they can be proud of. Yet, it's difficult to link these vibrant boys to their current age (no ageism, no negative implication!). It's just that their generation shaped the looks and fashion/ music taste of the next five decades. It is difficult to accept that the boys-next-door might have 'moved on' with time.
heard a little story on the radio just a while ago. at that time these guys thought i'd be funny to switch places just for the heck of it. glad they cleaned up their act though...
Although listenable top 40 fare ,and somewhat in the airy fairy 1967 mood, this was an opportunistic management idea....proving that Rinus and George, being able musicians and busy in the studio doing sessions for a host of other artists, they could do any musical style, including this caribbean little ditty....while their hearts were obviously still in "rock"....
Of course I remember G.E.'s Radar Love in the AM headphones as I mowed the neighbor's vacant lot in 1974, or was it '73...I was referring to the song, not the band.
Not true, George Kooymans is also singing the first part in the song Twilight zone and did another 45 miles on his own. + The first period of the Golden Earring 1961-1968 they had another singer called Frans Krassenburg
One of the most unique song titles I have ever seen. It is a pretty good sing songy song. Good melody
Awesome classic song.
Golden Earring are the best.
my first music experience in my life at age 5 !!! BRILLIANT GUYS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! VIVA HOLLANDIA
ben je nederlands
@PlaceSoFarAway
As for Golden Earring, their songs are truly brilliant! They should have received far broader international coverage!
These guys were beyond happy!!! Cool song, too.
...and there ain't no mixture
that will give you back your youth
No mystic machine that makes the sand turn to gold
Like there ain't no magic word
that holds you back from getting old ...
Golden Earring at his best!!!
Rinus Gerritsen, George Kooijmans, Barry Hay, Cesar Zuyderwijk
Geweldige gezellige jongens en klasse muziek. Theo S.
Im so glad they evolved musically!!!
Actually Kooymans (singer) wrote this song for another band. Their producer saw the hitpotential and made them record it. It's not their favourite song. Although nowadays they play a llot old songs, this one never makes it to their playlist.
You can tell these guys were way ahead of their time
that's why the visuals and and sound are so poorly synchronized
Never heard this on AM radio. But did hear it on WIBG FM out of Phila. way back when.
So cute this song as the band is 50 years old!!!
Georges Kooymans did it sound all so Dutch***
Brave!
All time topper!!!
Blijft een geweldige band
This song hit number 1 in the Europe charts in 1967....inexplicably
I had to visit this page to pay my respects to the band. I just learned they are disbanding immediately, due to Kooymans having ALS. Best wishes to him.
Prachtig!
Cute smile of George Kooymans 😚 He was so beautiful in that time 😍
He still is now 🙂
Mooi zeg. Blijft mooi. Uit mijn oude buurt. Aardige gasten bovendien.
man not only has this band been arowne dfor ever but they have a veriety of sounding songs
. . ongelofelijk? Nee, waar!
Hard to believe this is the same band that brought us "Twilight Zone" and "When the Lady Smiles". And fun to see those 1970s clothing style. And of course, it's a nice song ;)
1968, so those were hardly "1970's clothes"
Did you watch Spinal Tap ?
They never played it live later on in their carreer because they were ashamed of it
George Kooymans sung this song again when he performed with Vreemde Kostgangers with Henny Vrienten and Boudewijn de Groot. He played the same instrument like in this video
Echt zo'n lekker eind jaren '60 love and peace nummer.....
Yes, it is!!
yep i was a hippy and it was an era that was way better than today
Golden Earrings were supporting Spinal Tap whose Flower Power hit 'Listen to the Flower People' was at Number 1 in the Dutch Charts. At at open air concert in Holland Tap's drummer was decapitated by the sail of a windmill
Rofl😂
Barry Hay in the background!
Dong-dong-di-ki-di-gi-dong is de juiste titel.
I wish them all the best. Certainly George Kooymans. Ik brand een kaars voor jou, George...
Such a nice feel good groover!
If not for The Earrings,George always could've made it as a teenage idol. The dude looked too damn cute for his own good.
I think that about Barry!
te gek nummer
They must have hit the Diki Diki Bong pretty hard before shooting this!
like REM did with all them Shiny Happy People..
If you look more closely "Shiny Happy People" is NOT a happy song (It's about the student riots in China)
Come on, 1968, the Hippie movement, there were so many similar songs in the charts.
RastaSaiyaman What has changed?
I don't have a gay molecule in me, but that vocalist is beautiful enough to make the most hardcore hetero swoon......
Love it
I can't believe it - the same Band who performed the all time favorite rock song "radar love"????
mosnick Frans krassenburg was these too
The drummer is Jaap Eggermont, and you see on the keyboard Rinus Gerritsen! Not Eddy van Halen! Cesar Zuiderwijk drums after 1970 in the Golden Earring!

Der Sound der 60ziger,einfach klasse,super
They supported Spinal Tap during their 'Listen to the Flower People' phase...
Not all their hits ... there are quite a number of songs on which George Kooymans sings. One other is Buddy Joe IIRC.
In the beginning the group was called the Golden Earrings...
Oooo yes it is!! And, believe it or not, they're still rocking, check out some more on you tube!
Super Earring ❤️❤️😘😘🎸🎸
Groovy😊😊😊
This was there earlier period, Golden Earring had 2 periods, first period with singer Frans Krassenburg. After he left and Barry Hay came to replace him they started to make harder songs, like twilight zone and Radar love.
The lads were obviously having a laugh with this one... Probably egged on my the success of some of those silly sing-a-long tunes that top the charts on occasion. Gurgis Jones Never underrate Barry.
Cesar joined later
help I'm stepping into the twilight zone
still can't believe that that eight miles high album was from the same year
❤
@oldehove1 woaw this is so different from the golden earring i saw playing radar love.i didn't know they were a pop group.
I refuse to believe this is the same band that made one of the best rock songs ever, "Twilight Zone"
It's the same band,believe me.
Same lineup except the drummer, that's a different guy.
You must start somewhere
Damn, George Kooymans was #@%& beautiful. And this is coming from a straight dude.
This is like Golden Earring: caterpillar vs their new stuff... Golden Earring: Moth.
Geweldige tv registratie en super playback😇🤣
Maar wel een lekker nummertje.
I can't believe this is the same group that sings twilight zone
plus the percussion of the latin group Ritmo Natural
It's 3/4 of the RADAR LOVE lineup. That's Sieb Warner on drums, a year before CZ joined.
+Nathan Milliron It's not Sieb Warner, but Japie Eggermont, who later produced 'Stars on 45'. This was a hit in the summer of 1968 and Warner joined in 1969. He lasted only about one year and played on the album 'Eight miles high".
No it's Japie Eggermont I had drum lessons from CZ one month before he joined The Golden Earings in Den Haag
Groovy baby.....
@hellyfornication
your right, because this song was released in 1968, Eight Miles High was released in 1969
@PlaceSoFarAway I agree. The 60s bands have a particularly rich output which they can be proud of. earthgurl...I'm glad yr dad is able to translate the comment, is he dutch, just like the earring(s)?
I'm out of words. But it is nice in a strange androgynous way.
They must be incredibly embarrased by this.
Signed,
A Big Fan of GE
heard a little story on the radio just a while ago.
at that time these guys thought i'd be funny to switch places just for the heck of it.
glad they cleaned up their act though...
Nathan...jaap eggermont at the drums
@JoopFCG Before that, they were called Tornado's
So different from their other stuff. I mean, I've heard Radar Love and Twilight Zone on our rock station countless times, but this???
@peperudi Why sadly? They probably love what they do! All the bands that were AROUND in the 60's are pretty much IN their 60's now... :)
Rinus lijkt op Neil Young!!
Jaap Eggermont on drums
Wow, cute guys! What has happened to them? Are they still together and performing?
Although listenable top 40 fare ,and somewhat in the airy fairy 1967 mood, this was an opportunistic management idea....proving that Rinus and George, being able musicians and busy in the studio doing sessions for a host of other artists, they could do any musical style, including this caribbean little ditty....while their hearts were obviously still in "rock"....
@peperudi yes they are still together!
This the song the band wants to forget. LOL
Yep, and they won't play it again ! Never ever.
Should've turned it into a slow driving rocker invoking a hot night, think Honky Tonk Women / Hot Legs (Faces + Rod)
Why ? It is just great !
Actually, Jaap was their second drummer. He replaced Freddy van Hilst in '64.
@peperudi taka a look here George Kooymans & Frank Carillo - A Blind Love (official promo video).
bubble-gum that never reached our shores in the States.
It didn't?
look up a song called "Radar love".
SAME band.
Of course I remember G.E.'s Radar Love in the AM headphones as I mowed the neighbor's vacant lot in 1974, or was it '73...I was referring to the song, not the band.
Look up Kasenetz Katz version
@BroughamConspiracy , you good luck with obama! Greetings from holland!
Got this in 45 vinyl at wdgw
Barbara Palvin brought me here with her Agent Provocateur commercial 😂
Reminds me of Spinal Tap's "Flower People" period.
Hardly a speck of the great band they became.
Not true, George Kooymans is also singing the first part in the song Twilight zone and did another 45 miles on his own.
+
The first period of the Golden Earring 1961-1968 they had another singer called Frans Krassenburg
Cesar joined the band in '70.
