A few people have asked about the red and black cotton linen blend fabric so I've been on the Abakhan website to try and find it but it looks like it's sold out online 😢 There are a few Abakhan stores around, Shrewsbury, Chester, Stoke, Liverpool, Mostyn, Birkenhead, Bolton, Manchester & Preston so if you are passing any it might be worth a look. I can't guarantee they have it in all the stores but they definitely did at the Shrewsbury one this past weekend. Happy shopping 🥰
Oh my, Ruth you are a delight to any sewer. Love your jungle dress, absolutely beautiful and that calm easy voice you have is so pleasant to listen to, thank you for sharing, love from South Africa.
Thank you so much Beatrice that’s such a kind compliment x
I think the lady McElroy people fabric personally. You could always make covered buttons using different colours in the fabric. 😊
Gorgeous.
Hi from California. I made the Nell dress in a cotton/linen water colorish print. It’s beautiful. I only put buttons on the top, not the skirt. Looks great. I’ll make another one in a solid. Might make it smaller. Great pattern.
Your dress looks lovely although I chose the other fabric. I still think that would be lovely too. The red is nice. 😊
I’ve just subscribed yo your channel as I liked listening to you 😊
Your dress is beautiful Ruth and really suits you. I love watching your videos. Thankyou 😊xx
Thank you so much Shelly 🥰
Try the red buttons on the black dress and vice versa. I think it would look super-cool.
That would look cool!
Absolutely love your dress. Both fabric options suit your colouring really well. I only discovered your channel recently and I’m really enjoying the content and your down to earth approach. Thank you.
Oh thank you so much, it's so nice to have you here 🥰
Oh I love your Nell Dress and thanks for the comparison notes on it and the Daisy Dress! Hope to make both!!❤
I hope you like them as much as I do 🥰
Beautiful dress Ruth. It looks really good.
Lovely dress, beautiful fabric I love red xx
Me too! I used to wear red a lot when I was a teenager but for some reason I stopped as I got older 🤷♀️
Hi Ruth, I love your Nell dress the fabric is unusual, the use of the buttons I sent ages ago really work. If you ever need any buttons just let me know I have a HUGE stash, all different colours and designs. The fabric for your shirt is very summery I love it 💛 Had I known you were in Shrewsbury we could have met for a coffee 😂. The red linen is just fabulous. Lovely to see you at the sewing social yesterday. Happy sewing 🧵 xx
It was just a quick trip in but we do need to meet up for a coffee very soon xx
Love your dress Ruth, fits you perfectly. Very tempted to purchase the pattern now!
Yay, thank you!
The dress looks beautiful on you. It was my first choice for you. Well done, ❤🎉
Thank you! 😊
Fab dress on u, u have to make the second fabric up now too. I’m on the fence about this pattern because I’m not brave enough about buttons lol
Don't be scared of buttons, they are much easier than you think. Practice on a scrap piece a few times until you feel confident and i'm sure they will be just fine 🥰 Having said that, I am scared of zips so should take my own advice x
I love option 2. This dress will hang so well - option 1 is to drab and stiffer. I was wrong, the dress is beautiful and hangs nicely. I just received my pattern from Tilly’s today. Your video came just in time. Thank you for a good presentation. (Greensboro, North Carolina, USA)
The dress is lovely on you Ruth! Xx
Wow, I love yr dress x
Thank you x
Your dress is fabulous Ruth, the colours look devine on you.
Thank you so much Anne x
Love the dress. You should do it in the Lady McElroy fabric too. I used to makevthese back in the 90s. Great vlog ❤
You know what Anne, I might just do that. On watching the video back I quite like the colours of that one against my face, I'll just need more buttons 😊
@@SeamStressedRuth me too Ruth 😍
Ruth, the Nell dress is so pretty and looks great on you. Looking forward to seeing the next one.
Suzanne
Thank you so much Suzanne 🥰
Hi Ruth, I love your dress and the fabric is really unusual ❤, what a great pattern. I really like your shirt too. 😊
Thank you so much!
Dress looks fabulous.
I have made a similar dress from Pattern Emporium, called Take The Chance Tiered Shirt Dress. This has a collar but otherwise is similar to Tilly and the Buttons dress. I have made several and love wearing them.
Ooo thanks for the recommendation, I will have to take a look at that one x
Love this Ruth - you look beautiful in your Nell - and thar red one is going to look amazing!!
Thanks Amelia 😊 I think this will suit you too, are you planning on making one (or more) up? x
My Nell dress pattern arrived in the post on Saturday morning. I’m excited to cut it out now x
Enjoy! It's a fun sew 🥰
Hi Ruth. Your Nell dress is very nice. What a tough decision between the 2 fabrics. It is going to look gorgeous in the red cotton linen fabric. What a great buy!😊
Hi Cynthia, thank you so much. I can't wait to get started on the red version, we just need some good weather now 🥰
Gorgeous dress, can’t wait to see the red version
Thank you x
Your dress is lovely Ruth. I really enjoy watching your channel. Thank you
Thank you so much Denise 🥰
I thought that about the Rosery Apparel Daisy Dress too! It's very similar, I also own that one so was hesitant to think about buying this one, you may have persuaded me 😂 Your version looks lovely I saw it on Instagram as well ☺
Hi Shelley! Out of the 2 I'd definitely recommend the Nell. The Daisy has been a favourite of mine for a long time but the fit on the Nell is much better. Let me know if you go for it 🥰
Really love your dress, tempted to buy pattern now
Go for it, it's so good 🥰
Luv your dress, both materials would look great in this pattern! Also love the yellow rose shirt, that material is just gorgeous. Newbie here and thoroughly enjoyed your video, thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for watching 🥰
Your dress is so pretty.. I'd still like to see it with the people fabric.. Love the red one ...OH you'll just have to make a dozen.. they'll all be gorgeous on you
Thank you Cindy, I am getting more and more tempted to make the people one up too. I'll have a whole wardrobe full of Nell's at this rate 🥰
Its gonna be gorgeous in red and black
Thank you 🥰 They are all cut out, now I just need to find some sewing time x
😂😂😂 i love the intro this week.. I’ve also had days like that recently. Glad I’m not the only one and so delighted sewing came to your rescue! The dress looks amazing no wonder you now have plans for more. The red is going to be incredible!
It's a good job we have sewing to cheer us up, I'd be on the wine and chocolate otherwise 😂 Roll on summer holls hey xx
Hi Ruth, I think option 2 is my favourite and I think it suits you too. xx
Thank you Jackie x
Definitely very you hun xx
I think you'll like it too x
Option 1. The colours really suit you.
Thank you 🥰
You need to make it up in the Lady McElroy fabric too. Looks beautiful on you 😍
I love it when a make brings you that much joy xxx
💕
Lovely dress Ruth , I'm making the Nell blouse to get the sizing right 😂 ,then I'm going to make the dress version ❤
That's a great plan, I hope you love it as much as I do 🥰
The dress looks gorgeous on you ❤
Thank you so much 🥰
Great dress Ruth so beautifully made, isn’t it so rewarding when a pattern comes together perfectly ?
I also really like the shirt, so well worth the effort of making it even though it probably wasn’t an enjoyable sew ! I don’t think pockets are needed
as the fabric is so lovely.
I can’t find the fabric you mentioned on the Abakhan website, I guess it's all sold out.
Looking forward to seeing your next two Nell dresses
Thank you so much, I think I'll leave the pockets off. I will have a look and see if I can find it online for you x
It looks like it's sold out online 😢 There are a few Abakhan stores around, Shrewsbury, Chester, Stoke, Liverpool, Mostyn, Birkenhead, Bolton, Manchester & Preston so if you are anywhere near it might be worth a look x
Hi Ruth! I’m a new subscriber! I love your Nell dress and will have to check out that pattern!
Hi Amy, thank you so much for subscribing 🥰
Thank you Ruth for your vlog xx I've been debating the Nell dress just like you ❤ you have made a wonderful job of yours ❤ I'm cutting out mine today xx thank you so so much
Hi Linda, I hope you love it as much as I do, can't wait to see it on insta x
Thank you I love your dress. The lady McElroy would make a great shirt dress. Please excuse this question as it is not sewing related but what foundation do you use your skin is lovely. I cant wait to see the red and black dresses I think one of them would look great with the ties. Happy sewing
Thank you and I use Estee Lauder Double Wear, it's my all time favourite 🥰
Ooh love the red linen and can’t wait to see it made up I think I’m going to make after seeing yours and Adele’s coming together yesterday you look so happy in the dress. Your shirt looks better with the turn up on think it will look great with your linen trousers and a little top underneath 🥰💕🤩💕
Thanks to you and all your help 🥰 I think you should make a Nell too, it would look lovely on you x
I’m going to just not 100% on what size to go for 😂
Hi Ruth, just found your channel & love your down to earth approach. The two fabrics, very different but both would suit you. The dress looks super on you & you have inspired me to get the pattern & have a go. Look forward to seeing the other two dresses made, particularly the red one. Such a shame, after all your work that the Gloria blouse has not come up to your expectations but thank you for those hints & tips, really useful. Love the other two fabrics you showed, just beautiful.😊
Thank you Alison, it's so lovely to have you here 🥰
Your dress looks fab. I was on the fence about this pattern because I have similar ones but I think you’ve convinced me to try it out, thank you xx
Yay! I hope you love it as much as I do 🥰
I’ve downloaded the pattern, need to stick it together now, looking forward to it now
It’s fabulous
Thank you x
Loved the introduction definitely option 1 now you have swapped the option so the one with ladies on
Thank you so much x
Very pretty
Thank you! 😊
Option 2 for me just because I am not a bright colour person.
Just found you the dress looks lovely do you every show step by step for some of us just starting back to sewing one more question were do you buy your fabric from please 😊
Hi Lynda, Tilly and The Buttons patterns have really great step by step instructions so I would recommend you try them out if you are just getting started again. In terms of fabric, I have a few favourite places to buy from. Online I like Sew Eco Fabrics, Merchant and Mills, Guthrie Ghani and in person I like Abakhan and Textile Express.
Your Nell dress is absolutely beautiful Ruth 😍 I’m currently making one in a red/purple cotton lawn!
I absolutely love the red fabric you bought from Abakhan, Infact I love it so much I went looking for it online but sadly I couldn’t find it on their website. It’s the perfect colour red ♥️
I can't wait to see yours too! I'll have a look and see if I can find it on the website for you x
@@SeamStressedRuth oh that would be amazing, thank you ☺️
It looks like it's sold out online 😢 There are a few Abakhan stores around, Shrewsbury, Chester, Stoke, Liverpool, Mostyn, Birkenhead, Bolton, Manchester & Preston so if you are ever passing it might be worth a look x
@@SeamStressedRuth thanks so much for checking Ruth. Really appreciate it xx
Lovely makes, I was trying to find the fabric online the linens( Red,Black) that you bought, but i couldn’t find them, do you normally do link’s to the items you use? Thanks Anita x
Hi Anita, I do always try to link the retailers I mention in the description box. A few people have asked about this particular fabric so I've been on their website to try and find it but it looks like it's sold out online 😢 There are a few Abakhan stores around, Shrewsbury, Chester, Stoke, Liverpool, Mostyn, Birkenhead, Bolton, Manchester & Preston so if you are passing any it might be worth a look. I can't guarantee they have it in all the stores but the definitely did at the Shrewsbury one this past weekend.
@@SeamStressedRuth Thank you Ruth, unfortunately I’m to far, I live in Kent, so quite a distance away, never mind, Happy sewing Xx
Your dress is lovely 🙂
Thank you so much Karen 🥰
You need to make it up in the Lady McElroy fabric too. Looks beautiful on you 😍
Thank you, I might do after the red and black versions x
@@SeamStressedRuth absolutely they will look amazing too xxx
Hi Ruth, I very much like your podcast, I’m your new subscriber 😊. Could you please let me know where you got your safari fabric from. Many thanks.
Hi thank you so much for subscribing 💕 The safari fabric was also from Abakhan's but the store in Mostyn x
Lovely, lovely dress and I am so pleased you chose the 'safari' fabric. It looks great on you and reminds me of the Megan Neilson Darling Ranges dress. However one caveat - why are you using sellotape for patterns????? I use a paper trimmer and gluestick and it is sooooo much quicker. Without it I don't think I could bear to use A4 patterns. Today I have a beautiful ecru embroidered voile and I am making a Grainline Scout Tee (lined) because the fabric calls for a simple pattern. I am looking forward to seeing your next versions of the Nell although I am allergic to red and black together as it was my school uniform!
Ooo I need to look into this glue stick method, it's new to me lol The red and black will definitely be separate makes 🥰
I love your finished dress Ruth. Excited to see the red and black too. I've got the pattern abd fabric, and undecided whether to do size 4 or 5. I know you did size 4, how did it compare to your full bust measurement? I don't want mine too full in the bodice.
The lemon shirt looks beautiful really nicely finished. Interesting review of the shirt pattern.
Hi Chrissy. My current FB is 40", the size 4 finished garment measurements are 42 1/8th" and size 5 is 44 1/8th" so it probably depends on how much room you want for swishing and big dinners 😍
@SeamStressedRuth 😂😂😂 big dinners. Thanks that's really helpful 😊
Hi, very excited to find that we’re almost neighbours 🤣. I work at RSH but live near Welshpool. Do you go to any socials at Abakhan or close by? I’m hoping that I can get to one soon depending on how my work shifts fall. Loved the vlog, liked and subbed x
Hi! That's exciting! I go to a social in Penkridge once a month, do they have any at Abakhan? That would be fun 😃
Hi Ruth, was the red fabric a Poly cotton Blend? Been looking on the webpage, and having trouble locating it.
Hiya, no it was definitely a cotton / linen blend. I'll have a look and see if I can find it on their website for you.
Thank you🤞🏾
It looks like it's sold out online 😢 There are a few Abakhan stores around, Shrewsbury, Chester, Stoke, Liverpool, Mostyn, Birkenhead, Bolton, Manchester & Preston so if you are anywhere near it might be worth a look x
Thanks, Ruth
Can I ask where you got the fabric you made the dress from. I have been looking for something similar.
The 'safari' fabric was from Abakhan Fabrics in Mostyn, North Wales, it's a great place to visit if you are ever passing that way.
2❤
🥰
If you do the tie version you could skip the buttons.
True but I love a dress with buttons, I'm stuck in the 90's 😊
Your dress looks fab, shame about the shirt instructions, I made the Nosara shirt by Itch to Stitch recently it is great
I'd not seen that one but just had a look on their website, it looks great! Some lovely tester versions. Thanks so much for sharing that tip 🥰
Your dress is lovely. I wish I could wear that style, but I always look pregnant in it, not a good look in my 70s. I wouldn't add a breast pocket to your shirt, I'd leave it simple and breezy
😆 I'm sure you would look lovely in it and thank you 🥰
What a shame about your shirt. It's the most gorgeous fabric. What about tieing it at the front? That might look good with white linen trousers?
Great suggestion! I'll give that a try, thank you 🥰
