  • On Monday, UPS drivers, union representatives and Jacksonville City Councilman Garrett Dennis took to the steps of City Hall to demand UPS make changes. UPS drivers say they are at their breaking point and they're calling for an end to what they call "abuse" by management. We now hear from a person who recently retired because they say the environment at UPS Jacksonville was hostile.

I currently work at UPS, and honestly it sucks. I am part of the management team and I admit the company is horrible to their employees. I work in a warehouse in AZ so it's even worst. The trailers that package handlers are force to work in reach degrees up to 120 degrees. They expect the employees to work at a certain speed or else they'll be written up. If the area that a supervisor is in charge of, doesnt hit plan. It's a living hell for them. Mental abuse is normal in these warehouse in UPS. The last full time, in my building played favorites. Married and still flirted and allowed the supervisor girls to sit on him and jump on his back. We had a part time supervisor get promoted to full time, even though he was extremely sexes and racist. I met this employee my first week at UPS and for an hour cussed out the computer because he couldnt figure it out. I recieved no training as a loader, didnt recieved training as a supervisor for the first 3 months and they still relocate you without training of the area. They bullied another supervisor for being gay and not being good at his location, forcing him to relocate to another hub. We have multiple girl employees quite because how the company treats them. Finally you cant even be encouraged to do a good job because they'll squeeze everything out of you. They will increase your plan if you hit the last one and get mad at you for not hitting it. The plan for one of the belts was 190 packages per hour average. The very next day when I got place in the same location it increased to 250 pph. Although I am a full time student and sign up for part time. They harrassed me to try and put in 40 hours a week. Constantly calling me while at school to make sure I was saying the truth. Telling me to come in early even though they new I was having finals. At the end they were making me do a 3 persons job. Facilitator, one on one person training and filing, I would hire 15-25 new hires every 3 days. At the end I wasnt able to get 100% of it done and they would complain at me for it. The only way you can survive in this environment is not giving 2 f.... Which just makes everyone's experience negative, because no one cares.

Thank you for your honesty! You use UPS language, so you check out as someone as being from the inside. Get your education and RUN from UPS! You obviously know your soul becomes black and your just a shell of a person just existing. For being a moral and ethical person, but mostly for self preservation, leave and run away! Again, thank you for your honesty!

May God bless you, my friend.
No one is paying attention to the overall plan that UPS will use against its employees. It is hard for them to stay in business while paying out so many pensions for their older employees.
There is a very good reason the current administration is allowing all the people invading America. Publix grocery store has used the same tatic. Out with the older employees and bring in foreigners to take our jobs at .25 cents on the dollar with no benefits.
Plus, they had us to train the new employees before we get realeast.
You will have no further working in corporate America.

I'm close to retirement with the company. Started off as a package handler, got enough seniority to go driving and made it into management. I've been in management for many years but can't speak how far up the ladder I am. This video is a very real representation of our once beautiful company. Harassment has always been an issue but it was kicked into overdrive when we went public. As someone in management I get moved around hubs semi frequently and the one thing that still haunts me to this day was a beautiful young man who was a great shop steward who suffered tremendous harassment and took his own life. For those of you who don't know what a shop steward is, think of that position as like a union rep. This young man had incredible morals and couldn't be "bought." He deeply cared for the workers he represented and that put a target on his back. He was militant. He was strong and never backed down. I could never say anything to stop the harassment he was facing but it was so severe he ended up taking his own life. Although I don't work with the same folks, I wonder how they feel about his death today. I wish I would have said something. This is going on at every UPS hub, make no mistake.
I cannot advise people who are reading this who currently work for the company to comply. Even so much as taking bathroom breaks can put a target on your back. Do your best to not let the harassment get to you and seek help if you feel like it's too much to handle. This is just a job and there are many job openings. If you start suffering from depression, anxiety, panic attacks, ect then it may be time to look for work somewhere else. Remember whatever we do comes back to us. You may be able to get away with something again and again for many years but eventually

They'll never catch me, I will never comply. I've (edit: once) when they yelled and stopped me from going to the bathroom after holding it for a 12 hour shift I let it go right there in front of the manager. Then I smiled and said now you have to pay somebody to clean the floor, and for me to clean my pants. I'm a camel and can hold it for most every day, and that should be good enough.

My motto there: "The devil never rests at UPS!" I’m 22 years in (at a location in GA), and it is miserable for me! The management is disrespectful and unprofessional most of the time. They yell and scream, and curse at employees. Sometimes, even physically threaten them. It’s insane! They work people inside the building 5-7 hours without even giving them a break. This has to be a labor law violation. And I feel like UPS, nor the Teamster’s Union that we pay weekly, doesn’t even care…

People with eyes to see know the true characters, hearts, and reputations of their brothers and sisters in brown and gold. Part of being a great employee is maintaining self control and staying true to yourself. The system is designed to shuffle out those who can't handle it. After 30+ years of dedication I'd be satisfied with walking away from any environment. Don't let poor management bring you down. At the end of the day they have to look themselves in the mirror just like everyone else. The reality is they're probably even more miserable than you.

Having been an employee for almost 40 years, I can tell you that company statement at the end is pure BS. The mind games management plays is beyond belief, but luckily I've learned to enjoy playing them too and it's like a mental chess match every day. All people want is to be a good employee and come work hard, but somehow the cancer in the company won't let that be enough. Personally I can name 20 people in the last few years that retired earlier then they wanted to because they were sick of the way they were treated. I laugh at the stories when I tell them, others are shocked and think every one has to be fabricated. Respect and dignity are 2 things this company has no clue about.

I personally know many of my former supervisors who quit UPS because they refused to be the indecent human beings UPS demands to be a supervisor. I have been with UPS for 6 years and have literally had 13 different supervisors in that same time. Turnover is extremely high because most people can't be the evil demons UPS demands for supervisors and management in general.

It's always been like that. The upper management abuses the center managers, they in turn abuse the drivers. The great thing is we, the drivers are only in the building for 15 minutes, then we are gone. After that they can only text us on our DIADS. It's the price you pay for making $30 and more an hour. It’s a terrible company to work for.
All this is true. Not just for drivers. But for PT Sups too. You can work for this place your years. And give them hard work and loyalty.
But it could all be unraveled with just one false accusations. A new employee who wasn’t even two weeks in cursed me out and threatened me. I just thought she was tired. So I let it slide. I let my higher up know what she did and he said he’d handle it. She comes to me the next day and gloats that she reported me to HR. Now. For the first time in my career I’m now the target of being the problem. They railroaded me. And bullied me into resignation. Making my job harder. Leaving paper trails trying to say I’m incompetent. And berating my hard work saying I’m unfit for the job. They literally encouraged me to quit. And I thought if I stuck it out the abuse would stop. Or if I didn’t say anything. He wouldn’t do anything to make it worse. But it did. They nitpicked and constantly told me I wasn’t worth having around.
And it messed me up. I took it very personally.

When you have put in the years and hard work that you thought UPS led you to believe would be your future and livelihood, it IS personal. Reporting abusive behavior is protected activity under the law. So, yes, UPS has a no-retaliation policy. Problem is they don’t enforce it. The person being reported is reported to a member of “The Good Old Boys” club. You can go through grievances, EEOC, NLRB or HR. Nothing will be done unless you can get an attorney and file a suit. Then, they will see what you have on them.

Well, that is the Policy, however, that is not the practice. I was there 37 years as a part time employee, a full time driver, a supervisor and a manager. The undue pressure and stress never lets up. Sometimes it is on the verge of inhumane. I documented everything to protect myself. Even as an HR Manager it continued. 18 hour workdays were not uncommon. Threats from a District Manager came every day. Yet on performance reviews from my boss were always near if not at the top. A far cry from what the founders envisioned.

Had an accident on my way to Jax from Sarasota in 2016, had the traffic citation dismissed in court but due to me having 32 years of safe driving and 55 years old 6 Managers and 4 Dispatchers jobs were threatened by Labor Relations Manager John Mobley to lie during a 20 day investigation and back him up on his theory of me not reporting the accident. I had my phone records and the first panel deadlocked but at my second panel in New Orleans my business agent from Tampa Local 79 Brian Rothman and President Ken Woods who was retiring made a swap to let me go for 2 other employees who were there. Shameful that all those years of backing the Union and being their Teamster Brother they stabbed me in the back and threw me under the bus for 2 other employees with drug problems!!! Karma…. I feel like they can do anything they want as far as your load cause they know your not gonna quit, no one ever does. The manager Walter is corrupt as well because he supported two of his supervisors that did wrong I had voice recordings on what they did and all of these men didn’t do anything about it but fire me. The retaliated HR DOES NOT DO ANYTHING. All they did was mess with my life they didn’t care the showed no mercy they are ego driven a lot of there supervisors and employees smoke sees on the job. It doesn’t take much to be a supervisor. The HR MANAGER ARTURO ASK IF I WANTED TO BE A SUP AND THEN THE VERY NEXT DAY FIRES ME. What a crazy man . I drive a truck. I had to pick it up from another driver on Friday. As I was going over it during a pre trip inspection I noticed someone had gone out of their way to leave what looked like cat crap wrapped in a piece of paper on the bed of the truck.
The next day the part that was tampered with under the hood caught up with things & the truck broke down. The owner of the company took about 2 seconds to diagnose the problem on a phone call. He sounded like a bad actor on the phone.
I'm pretty sure he knew the truck was rigged to break down. He's not very convincing as an actor.

But unless this 30 year old driver doesn't have some sort of debt or any sort of payment to make, she needs to retire for the young bloods. She's taking a spot where a young man or a women can get the opportunity to make a career and succeed.
