Same! Never even considered an 18 when I was shopping. It was either the 35 or the 28. I went with the 28 because I am left handed and it was easier to find.
My favorite acoustic guitar is a Maton EBG808 TE. I could never make friends with the dreadnought shape of the D-18. So I sold it...but that's just me.
I have a 2005 D-18GE that I bought new. It has been excellent and provides much joy. Perhaps it's an exception. Perhaps it's the Waverley open back nickel tuners or the Adirondack top and bracing. It could be the Brazilian rosewood head plate or ebony fretboard and long bridge with fossilized ivory nut and saddle and stamped back headstock, but I think the magic is in the C F Martin IV signature...lol
I have an '04 GE. Great guitar! I pulled out the label, switched out the pickguard, nut, saddle, and pins, shaved the back braces, and pulled the popsicle brace. Now I love it even more!
I own one from the early 70's, but its older. My only complaint is no truss rod. They are finger eaters so and adjustments must be done to the nut and bridge, but that is limited.
