There are hundreds of large infrastructure sites across the country that look like this. The problem at first was material during the post-pandemic period. As that was improving, we had a labor shortage. Even a percentage increase in employment started to drain bottom-end workers off of these sites. Many will hire immigrant labor because it's cheap, but there's no way to ensure perfect work. In addition, California had to come to terms with its rapidly growing homeless population. No one can blame the governor for that because many of the destitute arrived from other states. One more challenge - funding for mass transit projects like this one depend on federal money to supplement state funds. Because of gross fraud discovered in many projects across the nation, the feds have really slowed the approval process, something they should have done decades ago.
But both the state and federal government can just print money out of thin air when they want to. Not only that but there’s a ton of housing and development that has been going on all over the state for the past five years, so there’s definitely money in this state for funding/finishing projects like this one. Cmon, no more excuses. Newsom has to know something about how money is spent throughout the state.
I’m born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. I remember the new freeway that was to be built along the Hayward hills…..all the housing California purchased in anticipation and then nothing…. The housing was rented out or left abandoned….. yup , California politics in action
I live there you should see what they've done to down town and on the west side of town the money just spent buying land, buildings, Business's etc is unreal!! massive construction sites barely doing anything that i have seen. I think they have to or already did get more financing?
