I don't comment too often on RUclips, however this song has become very important to me. This song has helped me grieve the recent loss of my son and the lyrics have touched me in a way no lyrics ever have before. I have struggled releasing my emotions but this song has me in tears every time I hear it. Thank you Ben.

I for some reason felt the need to reach out and just tell you how sorry I am to hear of your sons passing. I wish you an endless amount of strength through these dark times and I know how relieving it is, if that's the right word, to find something such as a song that helps put into words how you are feeling, and helps give you the power to move forward in a sense. My condolences to you an your family, again. God bless.

Smoothest finger picking ever from Ben Howard (possibly from anyone) and by far the best version IFWWW. You can see the pain in his face, and hear it in his voice. He sings it slightly faster than the rest of his performances, like he is just trying to get through the song before he breaks. Not to mention the mike making his voice echo slightly to make it even more haunting. Best singer songwriter of this generation, and by the time he is done probably any generation! The most complete musician in decades (guitar, vocals, songwriting, emotional inspiration). He just makes you feel!

+Joseph Crowley Tallest Man on Earth beats him on fingerpicking. Though Ben has his own style that's out of this world. I suggest listening to Field of Birds by Tallest Man on Earth live on KEXP. Or Revelation Blues live on pitchfork.

    • @Lucas.Mbh27
      @Lucas.Mbh27 9 лет назад

+Joseph Crowley If we are speaking about complete artist I put Ben Howard and Birdy in the same level (even if it is not the same style of music) because she has a magnificent voice, can play piano and guitar, write her own songs (with a lot of meaning such as Ben) and put also a lot of emotion in her songs.

    • @Lucas.Mbh27
      @Lucas.Mbh27 9 лет назад

She is unique in her own style as Ben is in his own. I never include "Skinny love" as her song, at least not this song. For example I think that her cover of "The a team" is much better than Ed Sheeran... Her covers are very good, but I was talking about her songs (written by her) such as "Without a word" (she was 15 years old), "Words as weapons", "Not about angels" etc. Her second album is only songs written by her, as her third album that will be out in march.

I sit here, listening to this alone, feeling the weight of each note and remembering that we used to share this together. It’s the same song, the same artist that was ours. Now, it’s just me, watching the same video, feeling the echo of what used to be. Couldn’t be more apt-it’s like I’m caught between memory and reality, reliving something that’s there and yet painfully absent at the same time. dam

    Oh hey, I wasn't listening
    I was watching Syria
    Blinded by the sunshine strip
You, you were in the kitchen
    Oh, your mariner's mouth
The wounded with the wounder's whip
And that's how summer passed away
The great dividing range, the green, green grass
And oh, maybe it was peace at last
    Who knew?
    Hello love, my invincible friend
Oh, hello love, the thistle and the burr
Oh, hello love, for you I have so many words
But I, I forget where we were, no
    Oh hey, I wasn't listening
I was stung by all of us
The blind leading out the bored
    And as per usual
    You were skipping and laughing
    Eyes at the bedroom door
"Don't take it so seriously, no
Only time is ours, the rest we'll just wait and see!"
    Maybe you're right, babe
    Maybe
    Oh, Lord
    And that's how summer passed
Oh, the great dividing range, the green, green grass
And oh, maybe I'll hold on fast
    To you
Then hello love, my invincible friend
Oh, hello love, the thistle and the burr
Oh, hello love, for you I have so many words
But I, I forget where we were, no
I forget where we were, no
I forget where we were, no
    I forget where we were
    Oh, Lord
    And that's how summer passed
Oh, the great dividing range, the green, green grass
And oh, maybe it was peace at last
    Who knew?

Do I feel worthy of receiving a partner?
Do I feel worthy of being seen, loved, respected, desired?
Do I love, see, respect and desire myself?
What is my belief system about men? About women?
How are men in my world? How do I perceive them? How about women?
What is my belief system about myself?
How do I carry myself in this world?

As an artist myself, I know that sometimes artists make sad stuff because putting sadness out in a piece of art is the way for them to actually not be sad on the inside. Hope it's the case, because Ben looks sad and I want him to be happy for I never found anyone whose songs touch me like his.

Its rare to these days to find an artist as talented as Ben Howard, not only is he a God at guitar, but his songwriting is just incredible, each song triggers a different emotion and has so much meaning

Ben is and will always be my favorite artist. I saw him with A blaze of feather last month and he was smiling and laughing out loud. So i hope he climbed out of the depths and i hope for new music soon.

I’m not normally attracted to younger men but he has that guy roommate aura you gradually fall in love with- irresistible, and his messy hair - I can’t stand it so much I love it
