Thank you Gary yeah it makes sense about fixing your subject in the centre of the frame. As you never know what magic will happen in the rest of the frame great advice 🥊🎈📷
Great idea, giving yourself a new task can really help shift your mindset. Another one I've done in the past was, me and my mate would challenge ourselves with a list of shots to get on a photo walk. Eg, a fella in a hat, someone at work, a musician. I found that having set goals rather than wandering aimlessly helped build confidence and taught us to look for shots and enjoy the process.
I couldn't agreee more. Ididn't make a conscious decision to shoot centrally, more it dawned on me looking through Lightroom how many images I had that the subject was central. My way of thinking is why does the eye need to wander through the image to find the subject, make the subject powerful.
Coincidentally, it's what I'm doing right now. Been shooting with subject centre frame for around 6 months now (90% of time). It's really true what you say, regarding focus and direction, and not getting 'lost' in it all. Just that one line of approach, subject in centre, gives you a direct plan of action. You might not be sure what you are going to shoot, but you know how you are going to do it, stripped away all uncertainty on that front = very liberating/positive. Compose the scene around your central subject i.e. walk around, in/out, to get the shot you want and, job done. I wouldn't think of this as a rule, per say, more a direct approach to focus and simplify...You know what you are going to do, now you've just got to get your photographic eye on! If you just have one approach firmly in place before you go out shooting (it doesn't necessarily have to be shooting centre frame), you've got clarity and direction and that's definitely motivating, you're half way there. Great video mate, with excellent points = new subscriber.....will have to check out your zine.
Print drop sounds good mate, I’ll double check I’m signed up though I’m sure I have as I’ve bought your book/Zine. Great video as always mate, always useful information in there too, I’ll have to try some of your tips when I’m down in London next Saturday. Yes, you read right, finally bought train tickets for a day trip now that the prices have come down a bit after shooting up for some time, having my Disabled Persons Railcard which gives around a third off, 34% on Avanti. Booked a nice long day too, 6.55am tram out of Manchester, could have been earlier but I need to get to Manchester from home first though. Then I’ve got the 9pm, we’ll just past anyway so I’ll be driving to Manchester so I’ll have my car there to get home afterwards as I won’t get to Manchester until nearly Midnight. Keep those videos coming mate and take care
I was just thinking about you yesterday, and went searching for a new video, so thanks for putting this out. Congrats on the launch of the print store soon!
Interesting 5:38mins bank of england note - detail in the shots is truely magical man. you are thee street thief of the gritty Borough... Waiting to see this month the walking pic tours
The sooner we stop calling it "street photography" the sooner we will ensure that contrived, boring, Instagram like based images stop hurting the art of photography.
Makes things so much simple !! Another belter from the street thief ( no more running round like a headless chicken)

I'm virtually blind in my right eye, so i'm totally with you on that technique Gary. I sort of rotate around a subject lol. Best wishes fella.
