We may never hear John sing again thank heavens he has given us over 57 years of his magic.
Kicking off my festive celebrations with John - no better way!🎄🎄🎄
Kicking off my festive celebrations with a Nina Schofield reaction to John Farnham. The season's starting on a high note.
Great reaction, thankyou Nina😊❤
They are his backup singers, Linsey Field, Venetta Field & Lisa Edward’s. As others have said this is a main fundraising event, held in Melbourne to raise $ for the vision impaired and it’s done every year.

One of the nice things about our non-winter Christmas in Australia is the ability to hold big outdoor concerts. Obviously, this big Carols by Candlelight in Melbourne is televised but most towns would hold some version of the same thing (on a much smaller and less grand scale of course).
Carols by Candlelight is an institution here in Australia, originating in the 1930's. It started being televised in 1970. It's a charity event raising funds for children and young people with vision impairments and the some of the best of the best donate their time to perform.
John performed at Carol's many times over the years and was always the highlight of the show..
Currently reading 'John Farnham, The Voice Inside'. Absolutely loving it...because so many Aussies know him like the back of their hand, you can hear his voice whilst reading along. An early birthday gift to myself...72 on Christmas Day.
Because it’s summer for us most places have an outdoor Carols by Candlelight concert in the lead up to Christmas. The two biggest are in Melbourne and Sydney which are televised (nationally?). It’s a lovely family event and one of my favourite Aussie xmas traditions…
Most of our chrissy traditions come from elsewhere but this one is ours…
It’s a wonderful tradition!
There is usually one telecast in Tasmania so I am guessing it does go nationally.

I’m glad you weren’t forgotten Tassy - ya know the mainland luvs ya. Have a beautiful Christmas 🎄💞
It's Christmas everyday, when you listen to John and his band.
Carols by candle light is an Australian tradition held Christmas Eve at the Sidney Myer music bowl in Melbourne Victoria. It’s been going on ever since I can remember and I’m over 50. As you’ve seen artists are invited to perform the carols and it use to be a great honour to be invited to sing there, you know you’d made it if you were invited.
I haven’t watched in a number of years but it use to be a fundraiser for a charity for the blind.
My parents would let me stay up and watch this in my PJ’s before going to bed to wait for Santa. Great memories.
Aw those sound like some fantastic memories 🥰
Our gorgeous John ❤ Thank you Nina. Happy Christmas 🎄🎁❤🎉
Happy Christmas! 🎄
You need to watch jimmy Barnes and his son David Cambell sing never walk alone.
His pauses before entry allow his fellow singers to shine.
Lisa, Vanetta & Lindsey, they all performed with John for years and are brilliant at their craft. Young John, well he was more than just a little bit good.
Thanks for your reaction and analyst of our John. He is just amazing. I've been to a couple of Carols by Candlelight where he's been singing. He's always the highlight of the show for me. I've seen him singing You'll Never Walk Alone several times over the years. He always sings it with such passion and conviction and gives me goosebumps all over my body. There's no one else in the world quite like our goat. He's the ultimate best of the best. Merry Christmas, Nina.
Oh wow I bet that’s an amazing thing to experience live! Happy Christmas 🎄🎄🎄
Fantastic performance from John and his backing singers as usual.
Thankyou, and Merry Christmas Nina.🎅🌲
Thank you for watching and Merry Christmas to you! 🎅🏻
Thank you Nina both songs are emotional. John and his team were just great. There was also an orchestra and a large choir on stage. The music bowl is chockas Christmas eve.❤
Ah awesome, thank you so much for watching!
The goat singing Christmas carols at Melbourne carols by candlelight on Christmas Eve, what else could you ask for plus John 3 regular backing vocalists, incredible. This version of “you’ll never walk alone” is so majestic and I think the best version of this huge song I’ve ever heard. John puts everything into this, powerful with so much passion and emotion send shivers down your spine and gives you goosebumps. You you Nina looking gorgeous as ever. Merry Christmas to you.
Merry Christmas to you 🎄😊🎄
Love this version thanks for your analysis love it❤❤summer down under ❤
Thanks so much for watching!
I would like to recommend you react to David Campbell and Jimmy Barnes singing You'll Never Walk Alone at the Carols By Candlelight from the Sidney Myer Bowl in Melbourne. Carols By Candlelight is held in every city and town throughout Australia, in the lead up to Christmas; these are held outdoors in parks, with gold coin donations going to charities.
Lovely to see you Nina !!! Great reaction, you draw attention to so many details!!
Thank you so much!!
Great versions you’ve chosen once again, Nina! Another great Farnham review 👍… Merry Christmas! ❤
Thank you! Merry Christmas 🎄
The Sydney Myer Music Bowl, Carols By Candelight has been going since 1938. It never missed a year. Even during the war.
Even during the pandemic they still televised it despite having no people there to watch.
It is an outside event in a huge bowl, the stage is permanently undercover in a giant trumpet shaped roof.
The reverberating sound is actually phenomenal. Been there a few times with my wife when we were younger.
Many bands have gone there and scoffed when they first saw it till the sound crew got them to stand up the very back of the bowl area and then played their music and stunned them silent.
Hate to be that guy but it's Sidney* It happens to be in Sydney as well so I forgive people not knowing this.
He was the guy who invented the store Myers
He was a person
@drunkpaulocosta no I knew, for some reason my auto correct keeps changing it
Thank you for another fabulous reaction to our GOAT John 🙂 It’s always a joy watching someone experience these John performances for the first time. Love hearing you explain the technicalities of the vocals & musical arrangements - makes me appreciate John & his loyal back-ups Lindsay Field, Vanetta Fields and Lisa Edwards all the more! Carols by Candlelight is a Christmas Eve tradition in Melbourne, televised live and with a huge crowd in attendance. Being summer it's usually a lovely mild evening for families to enjoy. And John was always a highlight. Merry Christmas 🎄
I’m so glad you enjoyed watching! 🎄🎄🎄
Carols by Candelight is an annual event here in Melbourne. The three backup singers are in most of John's performances.
Thanks for watching and for the info!
Born 71 years ago and lived only 30 minutes away but have never been to the Carols. My daughters have been to the rehearsals and we have known people involved. My late wife loved watching it on TV each year.
Sublime
Your reactions are the best! I really enjoy your musical insights.
Thanks & Merry Christmas! 🎄
Aw thank you so much and Merry Christmas! 🎄
Thanks for the fantastic Christmas present, Nina.
I hope you and yours have a safe, and very very happy Christmas.
A very Merry Christmas to you too!
This event is an annual TV and fund-raising institution in Australia - especially in Melbourne, where it's filmed. John and his backing singers nailed it in this performance, as always 😊
Loved it. He always steals the show. Merry Christmas Nina.
Merry Christmas!!
Carols by Candlelight is wonderful, a tradition here in Melbourne. The backup singers are (from left to right) Lindsey Field, Vanetta Fields and Lisa Edwards. Brilliant singers in their own right and longtime collaborators with John. Thank you for your reaction & explaining the musicality of this performance 😍🙏
Carols By Candlelight is a big deal here in Australia.
John Farnham is amazing - wish I'd been there ❤
Hey Nina. You would love John singing Silent Night in 1982 Carols By Candlelight when John was with Little River Band. Harmonies are amazing.Brilliant🎄🫶🇦🇺✌️.
Gosh we love our wonderful John Farnham here in Oz. 💕🇦🇺
You'll never walk alone is an incredibly moving song. I remember it was a huge number one hit when i was a teen.
Music is a spiritual, mathematical science of energy based on the sacred number seven. I flicked through a thick book on this subject once in a bookstore and it was mind-blowing !
Fabulous Nina, as always, and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a fabulous new year lol from Melbourne Australia
A very Merry Christmas to you too!
Nina, apparently there are certain notes and chords that can be played that induce emotion. The music factory in the USA which churned out much pop music had that worked out. John Farnham also sang this song for the Aussie army troops and the people of East Timor/Timor Leste at a huge outdoor concert at the liberation of that country from Indonesia. It's on a heart-warming video on You Tube.
Carols By Candlelight began in Melbourne during the Great Depression of the 1930's and was used to raise money for the blind. The story behind the inspiration for its creation is a beautiful one and well worth checking out.
Those three were his long time backing singers They were like a well oiled machine!
Greatest singer ever
There John farnham back up singers every concert they are there
If you haven't already, please listen to John and Vanetta singing Amazing Grace. Simply superb 🧡
Beautiful reaction Nina. Thank you 🤗❤❤
Nothing like John and his stunning backing vocalists Lindsay, Vanetta and Lisa to get you into the Christmas spirit 🥰❤❤
Thank you so much for watching - absolutely I felt so Christmassy after this 🥰🎄
Lovely lovely John.
I love Carols by Candlelight. I used to go to the ones put on by schools……since I don’t live near a capital city, but I haven’t been for a while. There is one televised every year on TV though. I don’t think they use actual candles anymore due to fire risks, but can use mobile phone camera lights.
Not enough superlatives to describe our John. Please react to John performing Silent Night (with Beeb Birtles & Graeme Goble) at Carols by Candlelight, it is beautiful. Merry Christmas from Australia. 🎄🎅
Merry Christmas to you! 🥰🎄
G'day
John done walk on in he's own sets
He went oversea to sing for our military fighting
John sung this song for them you can see on you tube it beautiful version
With all the military singing along
Yes carols are hughe in Australia and televised as well
Most states hold them and generally out doors in our parks and venues
It's one of the things about Australian x mas it hot so normally beautiful night temperatures
Yes they are all candles everyone takes or buys one and think it raises money for charities
As nice as this is I think the military one has even more passion in it if at all possible
Merry x mas to you and your family friends in coming weeks
Cheers mate 🦘🇦🇺👍
Now you have to listen to Jimmy Barnes & David Campbell (father & son) sing You’ll Never Walk Alone.
Hi Nina,
I know you most likely will not see this comment, but if you ever have the chance, I would absolutely love to see you react to another performance from Carols by Candlelight, Silvie Paladino singing O Holy Night at the 2012 Carols (the one with the yellow/gold dress). The emotion in the song, is immeasurable in my opinion!
Another performance I would absolutely LOVE to see someone react to is Queenie Van de Zandt singing Candyland, from a theatre show called Smoke and Mirrors. She plays the bearded lady at a circus, and the song depicts the struggles of having that be your only identifier, and not being seen as an actual person.
Thank you so much for your reactions, they make me smile, and I love the mathematical/analytical aspect of your reactions.
Please you need to listen to Jimmy Barnes and David Campbell sing You'll never walk alone live Carrols by candlelight. David Campbell is Jimmy's first son, but David wasn't told he was his father for many years as Jimmy was, i think, only 16 at the time. This performance by Jimmy and David is special.
Nina, you were very complimentary about the piano arrangement. I think at that time it would have been Chong Lim who became John’s musical director after David Hirschfelder. Both are great musicians but the style here sounds more like Chong. David was in the concert that featured the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. He also won a BAFTA for his work on the movie “Shine”. Chong was the MD for John’s concert at the Sydney Opera House and also for the last Commonwealth Games. PS. This was a really positive review to watch. I’m not normally enthusiastic about Christmas but this time you’ve put me in the mood! 🎉 🤗
Aw thank you so much for the info and I’m so glad I helped you feel a bit Christmassy! 🥰🎄
Take a look at Jimmy Barnes and David Campbell at Carols by Candlelight singing 'You'll Never Walk Alone'. David is Jimmy's son.
The three ‘other’ singers are John’s backup singers.
Sounds better in proper headphone.. fyi ! Thanks for the reaction
Now you will have to react to Jimmy Barnes and his son David Campbell singing “you’ll never walk alone” it is also great and you can see how genetics help when it comes to singing
Over 50K in the audience every year.
The orchestra & mass choirs do Handel's Messiah every year & it's incredible.
Music & mathematics are in same part of the brain. The 2 Brians, May & Cox, both musos
Brian
You
You'd be amazed at the number of musicians that are good at maths and maths people that are good at music. (There was a local band and all of them were also doctors.) Music is based on maths. When I was studying music (at a low level) I used maths to help me. Spiritually, music is based upon the sacred number seven. Once I picked up and checked out a thick book on the spirituality of music in a New Age bookstore. The information was mind-boggling ! Most information in it was musically far beyond my limited understanding.
👍
That massive crowd is at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl. Named after Sidney Myer, not the city. That crowd doesn’t compare to The Seekers concert there in 1968.
As good as John is - and he is - the woman in the red dress has one of the best female voices on the planet. I'd rank her in my top ten. Check out their mind blowing version of Amazing Grace.
You need to check out one of our greatest song writers called Paul Kelly he has well over 200 songs and his Christmas tune called "How to make Gravy" it is a song without a chorus ruclips.net/video/BOWtK6HYCSE/видео.htmlsi=sNcMUfdkQe12CF5_ The version i have put here is from 2021 during Covid
Definitely a song to check out.
Shame he never put this version of Mary’s Boy Child on a record, as it is just a phenomenal version
Please react to Ed sheeran&Diljith Shape of you X Naina

Pretty coach reactor, make also a review to the performaces of Dr. Sofronio Vasquez who just won the Voice America. Awhile ago.. The first Pinoy to win the Voice America mentored by the singer Michael Buble.. He's been consistent since blind audition until announced winner of 26th season..

Thanks for your wonderful reaction to John . I'm Australian and a big fan. Did you know Angelina Jordan sang Mary's boy child at age 11 live while doing a radio interview. My absolute favourite version of this song. ruclips.net/video/38igakHk9_I/видео.html
He'd never sang with this orchestra. He had a single rehearsal to a backing track at 5pm on the afternoon of the performance.
Oh wow!
If fact I think jimmy and David Cambell do a better version
nah
